Report on Recent Cyclones in India (2022-2024)

Introduction
Cyclones are powerful atmospheric disturbances characterized by rapid and destructive air
circulation around a low-pressure area. They often bring severe storms, heavy rainfall, and
strong winds, causing significant damage to life and property.

Recent Cyclones in India

Cyclone Biparjoy (June 2023)

Cyclone Biparjoy formed over the Arabian Sea on June 6, 2023. It intensified into an
extremely severe cyclonic storm with peak winds of 165 km/h (105 mph) and made landfall
near Naliya, India, on June 16, 2023. The cyclone caused extensive damage, including power
outages in 4,600 villages and the evacuation of 81,000 people in Pakistan. In India, 23
people were injured, and 12 fatalities were confirmed.

Role of Citizens, NGOs, and Government Agencies

Citizens
Citizens play a crucial role during cyclones by:
- Staying informed through weather updates and following advisories from authorities.
- Evacuating when instructed and moving to safer locations.
- Stocking up on essential supplies such as food, water, and medications.
- Assisting vulnerable groups like the elderly, disabled, and children during evacuations.
NGOs
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) contribute significantly by:
- Providing immediate relief such as food, water, and shelter to affected populations.
- Assisting in evacuation efforts and setting up relief camps.
- Offering medical aid and psychological support to victims.
- Engaging in long-term rehabilitation efforts, including rebuilding infrastructure and
providing livelihood support.

Government Agencies
Government agencies are pivotal in managing cyclones through:
- Issuing timely warnings and advisories to the public.
- Coordinating evacuation and relief operations with various agencies and stakeholders.
- Mobilizing resources for rescue and relief efforts, including deploying the National
Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
- Implementing policies and plans for disaster preparedness and mitigation.

Conclusion
Cyclones pose a significant threat to life and property, necessitating coordinated efforts
from citizens, NGOs, and government agencies to mitigate their impact. Preparedness,
timely response, and effective rehabilitation are key to minimizing the damage caused by
these natural disasters.
