Lesson Plan: Adjectives

1. Warm Up

 I will start with a quick game of "Describe the Picture" where students look at an image
and use adjectives to describe it.
 I will use flashcards with various adjectives and ask students to match them to nouns on
the board.
 I will engage students in a short brainstorming session to list as many adjectives as they
can in one minute.

2. Explicit Instruction

 I will explain what adjectives are and how they are used to describe nouns, giving clear
definitions and examples.
 I will use a visual presentation to show the different types of adjectives (e.g., color, size,
quantity).
 I will demonstrate the placement of adjectives in sentences using simple sentences and
underline the adjectives.

3. Supported Practice

 I will pair students for a “find the adjective” activity in a provided text, guiding them as
they identify and highlight adjectives.
 I will provide a worksheet where students fill in blanks with appropriate adjectives,
offering assistance as needed.
 I will organize a classroom discussion where students describe objects in the room
using adjectives, providing support and corrections.

4. Individual Practice

 I will assign students a worksheet where they write sentences using a list of given adjectives.
 I will ask students to write a short descriptive paragraph about their favorite animal,
emphasizing the use of adjectives.
 I will give students a story and ask them to underline all the adjectives they find.

5. Differentiation

 For a student with dysgraphia, I will provide a tablet with a text-to-speech function to help
with writing activities.
 For a student with dyslexia, I will provide reading materials with larger fonts and simplified
texts to ensure understanding.
 I will offer extra time and one-on-one support during activities for students who need it,
ensuring they grasp the use of adjectives.

6. Assessment

 I will use an exit slip where students write one sentence using at least three adjectives.
 I will conduct a "snowball fight" where students write an adjective on a paper, crumple it,
and throw it; then they pick up a new paper and use that adjective in a sentence.
 I will use a tongue twister activity focusing on adjectives, assessing their understanding and
pronunciation.

These activities will help monitor and assess student language development by checking their ability to
recognize, use, and pronounce adjectives correctly.

7. Notes

 This lesson plan helps students in writing by encouraging them to use descriptive language
in their sentences and paragraphs.
 It enhances speaking skills through classroom discussions and the snowball fight activity.
 Listening skills are developed as students listen to instructions and peer contributions.
 Reading skills are reinforced through activities that involve finding and identifying
adjectives in texts.
