Report Name:
Connecting the cat 5e or cat 6 with RJ45 connectors.
Part-1:
Straight – Through Method
Objective:
To create a reliable network connection, this guide will show you how to properly crimp an RJ45
connector onto a Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable.
Necessary Tools:
1. Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable
2. RJ45 connectors
3. Crimping tool
4. Cable stripper or cutter
5. Network cable tester (optional but recommended)
Procedure:
Step 1: Prepare the Cable
1. Take off the outer layer o Carefully remove about 1-1.5 inches of the outer jacket from
the end of the Ethernet cable using a wire stripper. Be cautious not to damage the
internal wires.
2. Divide the twisted pairs o Separate the twisted pairs of wires and untwist them. Gently
flatten the wires between your fingers for easier handling.
3. Organize the Wires o Organize the wires according to the T568B wiring standard (the
most common), or T568A if specified.
T568B standard order:
White/Orange
Orange
White/Green
Blue
White/Blue
Green
White/Brown
Brown
Step 2: Cut the Wires
Ensure that all the wires are flat and in the correct order.
Trim the wires so that they are all the same length, approximately 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) from the
end of the jacket.
Step 3: Insert the Wires into the RJ45 Connector
1. Align the Connector o Hold the RJ45 connector with the clip facing down. o Carefully insert
the wires into the connector, making sure each wire goes into its respective channel.
2. Check Alignment o Push the wires all the way into the connector until the jacket is inside the
connector and the wires are at the end.
o Double-check that the wires are in the correct order and fully inserted.
Step 4: Crimp the Connector
1. Place the Connector in the Crimping Tool o Insert the RJ45 connector into the crimping
tool's appropriate slot.
2. Crimp the Connector o Squeeze the crimping tool handles firmly to crimp the connector
onto the cable.
o Ensure that the pins inside the connector pierce the wires and secure them in place.

Conclusion:
Successfully crimping an RJ45 connector to a network cable ensures a reliable and high-quality network
connection. This assignment demonstrated the essential steps and tools required, emphasizing the
importance of accuracy and attention to detail in networking tasks.
PART -2:
Objective:
To demonstrate the process of creating an RJ45 crossover cable, which is used to directly connect two
network devices without the need for a switch or hub.
Necessary Tools:
1 Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable
2 RJ45 connectors
3 Crimping tool
4 Cable stripper or cutter
Procedure:
Step 1: Prepare the Cable
1. Strip the Outer Jacket o Use a cable stripper to remove about 1-1.5 inches (2.5-3.8 cm) of the
outer jacket from the end of the Ethernet cable. o Be careful not to damage the internal wires.
2. Untwist the Pairs o Separate the twisted pairs of wires and untwist them. o Flatten the wires
between your fingers to make them easier to work with.
3. Arrange the Wires o For a crossover cable, use the T568B wiring standard on one end and the
T568A standard on the other end:
T568B Standard:
White/Orange
Orange
White/Green
Blue
White/Blue
Green
White/Brown
Brown T568A Standard:
White/Green
Green
White/Orange
Blue
White/Blue
Orange
White/Brown
Brown
Step 2: Cut the Wires
• Ensure that all the wires are flat and in the correct order for both standards.
• Trim the wires so that they are all the same length, approximately 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) from the
end of the jacket.
1. Place the Connector in the Crimping Tool
o Insert the RJ45 connector into the crimping tool's appropriate slot.
2. Crimp the Connector o Squeeze the crimping tool handles firmly to crimp the connector
onto the cable.
3. Repeat for the Other End o Repeat steps 1-4 for the other end of the cable, using the
T568A standard.

Conclusion:
A crossover cable is created by using different wiring standards on each end. This configuration allows
for direct communication between two devices without the need for a network switch or hub. This
exercise highlighted the necessary steps, tools, and the critical importance of precision and careful
attention when working with network cables.
