PayPal is an American multinational financial technology company operating an
online payments system in the majority of countries that support online money
transfers; it serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper methods such
as checks and money orders. The company operates as a payment processor for
online vendors, auction sites and many other commercial users, for which it
charges a fee.
Established in 1998 as Confinity, PayPal went public through an IPO in 2002. It
became a wholly owned subsidiary of eBay later that year, valued at $1.5 billion.
In 2015 eBay spun off PayPal to its shareholders, and PayPal became an
independent company again. The company was ranked 143rd on the 2022
Fortune 500 of the largest United States corporations by revenue. Since 2023
PayPal is a member of the MACH Alliance.
The company was originally established by Max Levchin, Peter Thiel, and Luke
Nosek in December 1998 as Fieldlink, later renamed Confinity, a company that
developed security software for hand-held devices. Having had no success with
that business model, however, it switched its focus to a digital wallet. The first
version of the PayPal electronic payments system was launched in 1999.
In March 2000, Confinity merged with x.com, an online financial services company
founded in March 1999 by Elon Musk, Harris Fricker, Christopher Payne, and Ed
Ho. Musk was optimistic about the future success of the money transfer business
Confinity was developing. Musk and Bill Harris, then-president and CEO of X.com,
disagreed about the potential future success of the money transfer business and
Harris left the company in May 2000. In October of that year, Musk decided that
X.com would terminate its other internet banking operations and focus on
payments. That same month, Elon Musk was replaced by Peter Thiel as CEO of
X.com, which was renamed PayPal in June 2001 and went public in 2002. PayPal's
IPO listed under the ticker PYPL at $13 per share and generated over $61 million.

Shortly after PayPal's IPO, the company was acquired by eBay on October 3, 2002,
for $1.5 billion in eBay stock. More than 70 percent of all eBay auctions accepted
PayPal payments, and roughly 1 in 4 closed auction listings were transacted via
PayPal. PayPal became the default payment method used by the majority of eBay
users, and the service competed with eBay's subsidiary Billpoint, as well as
Citibank's c2it, Yahoo!'s PayDirect, and Google Checkout.
In 2005, PayPal acquired the VeriSign payment solution to provide added security
support. In 2007, PayPal announced a partnership with MasterCard, which led to
the development and launch of the PayPal Secure Card service, a software that
allows customers to make payments on websites that do not accept PayPal
directly. By the end of 2007, the company generated $1.8 billion in revenue.
In January 2008, PayPal acquired Fraud Sciences, a privately held Israeli start-up
that developed online risk tools, for $169 million. In November 2008, the
company acquired Bill Me Later, an online transactional credit company.
By 2010, PayPal had over 100 million active user accounts in 190 markets through
25 different currencies. In July 2011, fourteen alleged members of the
Anonymous hacktivist group were charged with attempting to disrupt PayPal's
operations. The denial of service attacks occurred in December 2010, after PayPal
stopped processing donations to WikiLeaks. On 5 December 2013, 13 of the
PayPal 14 pleaded guilty to misdemeanor and felony charges related to the
attacks.
The company continued to build its Merchant Services division, providing e-
payments for retailers on eBay. In 2011, PayPal announced that it would begin
moving its business offline so that customers can make payments via PayPal in
stores.
In August 2012, the company announced its partnership with Discover Card to
allow PayPal payments to be made at any of the seven million stores in the
Discover network. By the end of 2012, PayPal's total payment volume processed
was US$145 billion. and accounted for 40% of eBay's revenue, amounting to
US$1.37 billion in the 3rd quarter of 2012.
2
In 2013, PayPal acquired IronPearl, a Palo Alto startup offering engagement
software, and Braintree, a Chicago-based payment gateway, to further product
development and mobile services. In June 2014 David Marcus announced he was
leaving his role as PayPal President; Marcus joined PayPal in August 2011 after its
acquisition of Zong, of which he was the founder and CEO. David Marcus
succeeded Scott Thompson as president, who left the role to join Yahoo. PayPal
announced that Marcus would be succeeded by Dan Schulman, who previously
served as CEO of Virgin Mobile and Executive vice president of American Express.
On July 1, 2015, PayPal announced that it was acquiring digital money transfer
company Xoom Corporation. PayPal spent $25 a share in cash to acquire the
publicly traded Xoom, or about $1.09 billion. The deal was closed in the fourth
quarter of 2015. The move strengthened PayPal’s international business, giving it
access to Xoom’s 1.3 million active U.S. customers that sent about $7 billion in the
12 months ending on March 31, to people in 37 countries. On September 1, 2015,
PayPal launched its peer-to-peer payment platform "PayPal.Me", a service that
allows users to send a custom link to request funds via text, email, or other
messaging platforms. Custom links are set to be structured as
PayPal.me/username/amount requested. PayPal.Me was launched in 18 countries
including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada, Russia,
Turkey, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Denmark,
Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. PayPal had 170 million users, as of
September 2015, and the focus of PayPal.Me was to create a mobile-first user
experience that enables faster payment sharing than PayPal's traditional tools.
PayPal's services allow people to make financial transactions online by granting
the ability to transfer funds electronically between individuals and businesses.
Through PayPal, users can send or receive payments for online auctions on
websites like eBay, purchase or sell goods and services, or donate money or
receive donations. It is not necessary or required to have a PayPal account to use
the company's services. Certain packaging may come with tracking numbers.
PayPal account users can set currency conversion option in account settings. The
PayPal app is available online or at the iTunes App Store and Google Play. One
year after acquiring Braintree, PayPal introduced its "One Touch" service, which
allows users to pay with a one-touch option on participating merchants websites
or apps.

Completing online surveys is a great way to make free PayPal money. Whether it’s

little time and energy to complete, but they’re also straightforward and provide

Plus, the amount of money you earn from surveys varies depending on how much
the survey pays and how often you take them. Some companies pay more than
others, ensuring that you can make more money if you diversify where you’re
taking surveys.
There are also many websites and apps that pay you that are dedicated to helping
people find paying surveys. Doing your research and finding the right websites
can help you maximize your earnings potential and make the most of your time.
It’s important to remember that making money from online surveys isn’t a get-

yourself to regularly completing surveys, you can earn some PayPal money and
have a nice side income stream. With the right approach, taking surveys for free
PayPal money can become an easy way to supplement your regular income.
2. Use GPT Websites
One of the most popular ways to make money online is through GPT (get-paid-to)
sites, which offer rewards for completing tasks such as taking surveys, watching
videos, or playing games. These sites are an excellent way to make free PayPal
money without any investment or risk involved.
4
GPT sites are incredibly easy to use and require no prior experience in order to
start making money. All you need is a computer or mobile device and access to
the internet – you can even do these tasks while on your lunch break at work!
Once registered on one of these sites, all you have to do is browse through their
list of available tasks and pick ones that interest you. They typically don’t take
longer than five minutes each so they’re perfect for those who only have a few
spare moments here and there throughout the day.
Another perk of using GTP sites is that they usually pay out quickly via PayPal
after reaching certain thresholds – sometimes within 24 hours! Some also offer
other payment methods, such as gift cards, so if you’re looking for more variety in
terms of rewards, this is a great option.
Additionally, some sites even offer bonuses for referring friends or completing
certain milestones. This can help you increase your earnings substantially and
make PayPal money even faster.
The potential to make money online with GPT sites is virtually limitless, and it’s a
great way to supplement your income without having to invest any time or
money. You don’t even have to worry about the legitimacy of these sites; there
are tons of highly rated programs out there that provide reliable payment
methods and excellent customer service. All you need to do is find the right one
for you and start making free PayPal money today.
3. Do Micro Tasks
One of the best things about doing micro tasks is that they don’t require any
special skills or qualifications. All you need is an internet connection and your own
time – no experience necessary!
This makes them perfect for anyone looking to make some extra cash on the side
without having to invest in expensive training courses or certifications. Plus,
there’s usually little competition when it comes to these kinds of jobs so even if
you don’t have any prior experience with them, you still stand a good chance of
getting hired.
5
Another great thing about making free PayPal money through micro tasks is how
quickly and easily it can be done from home or anywhere else with an internet
connection. You don’t need to leave your house or commute long distances just
to get a job – instead, you can just find one online and start working right away.
All you need is your laptop or smartphone, and you’re good to go!
Making free PayPal money through micro tasks can also be very lucrative.
Depending on the type of task, the amount of money you make can range from a
few cents all the way up to hundreds of dollars for larger projects.
This makes it an excellent way to supplement your income if you’re looking for
extra cash in a short amount of time. Plus, with so many different micro tasks
available, there’s always something new to try, so you never run out of options
when it comes to earning potential.
Finally, doing micro tasks to make free PayPal money is also incredibly flexible.
With most of these types of jobs, you can choose when and how often you want
to work. So if you’re looking for a side hustle that will fit around your existing
commitments and schedule, this could be the perfect way to do just that. Plus,
since many companies offer ongoing projects or repeat work, there’s always
potential for making even more money in the long run.
4. Sell Your Stuff
Have some stuff around the house that you no longer need? How about selling it?
After all, it is ridiculously hassle-free: all you need to do is take pictures of the
items you want to sell, list them online, and wait for someone interested in
buying them.
You don’t even have to worry about shipping because most buyers will come to
pick up their purchases from your home address. This makes it easier than ever
before for anyone with unwanted items lying around their house to turn those
into cash quickly and easily.
6
Another advantage of selling your stuff is that very few upfront costs are involved.
Unlike other forms of making money, such as starting an online business or
investing in stocks, all you need when selling your stuff is access to an internet
connection and maybe some basic photography equipment (depending on what
type of products you’re trying to sell). Once everything has been listed online, the
rest is up to buyers and their willingness to buy your items.
Finally, selling your stuff is a great way to make free PayPal money without
leaving the house. This makes it especially attractive for people who may not have
the time or means to travel in search of work.
All they need to do is list their items online and wait for someone interested in
buying them – no commuting required! Plus, once you’ve sold something through
PayPal, you can quickly transfer the funds directly into your bank account so you
can immediately access cash.
5. Participate In Focus Groups
Participating in focus groups is a great way to make some extra money, and it’s
even better when that money comes in the form of free PayPal cash. Businesses
often use focus groups for market research purposes, so they are willing to pay
people who participate in them for their opinions and insights. With a bit of effort
and dedication, you can easily earn yourself some free PayPal money just by
taking part in these focus groups.
Many companies will pay participants via PayPal once they have completed the
group's survey or task. This means there is no waiting around for weeks or
months before your payment arrives; instead, you can receive your earnings
almost instantly after completing each session. Plus, no fees are involved since
payments are made through PayPal – meaning more free cash for you!
Another benefit of participating in focus groups is that it allows you to share your
opinion on products or services with brands and companies directly. By providing
valuable feedback on how certain products could be improved or what new
features customers would like to see implemented into existing products, you can
help shape the future of those products and services. Companies often rely
heavily on the feedback that they receive from focus groups, so being part of one
can be quite rewarding.
7
Finally, participating in focus groups is a great way to meet new people and make
connections with like-minded individuals. By taking part in these groups, you will
get to interact with other members, making it an enjoyable experience while also
giving you an opportunity to network and build relationships with industry
professionals. Who knows – you might even be able to land yourself some
additional freelance work or job opportunities through these connections!
Although most of these strategies take very little time to complete, there are also
some ways to make free PayPal money without lifting a finger! With Honeygain, a
passive income app, you can earn money just by running an app in the
background of any device. If tasks are not your cup of tea, what about getting
money for doing nothing instead?
