Theories of k-12 Mathematics Curriculum guide

1. Experiential Learning- this theory stated that learning should be applied in real scenarios,
everyday activities, and mathematics must be experiental for we always encounter such
problems, and this approach will make mathematics easy to grasp. For example a lesson
about weighing scale, learners will learn by using the scale not just telling what is scale. Let
them experience and learn. Through experience we can assume learning from our learners.
2. Reflective Learning- Experiencing is not enough, let them thing deeper and develop critical
thinking skills. Through experiencing and reflecting they can holistically absorb the learning.
For example our teachers is always giving common scenarios with mathematical problem, for
in this problem we can let the learners to think or reflect and they can learn effectively. That
is why teachers are mandated to localize the lesson so that learners can reflect effectively.
3. Contructivism- from the word itself we can already tell that this theory allow the learners to
construct new ideas or learning by connecting what they learn from the experience they gain
throughout the lesson, this also help the learners to be critical thinkers that is needed in
solving mathematical problems. This theory let our learners to have an idea on their own to
construct learning . For example the teacher will let them group themselves or have a
partner and they will do brainstorming or researching in solving a problem.
4. Cooperative learning- In this theory we let our learners to be working with their classmates
and allow to questions and discover learning as a team. That is why our teacher make a
grouping every lesson to share ideas and cooperate within the group. Example the teacher
will group the learners and solve a specific task and let the group to perform or answer the
task.
