Power Tools
A power-driven hand tool or portable power tool, while power tools are generally driven
by electricity, the category also includes small pneumatic tools driven by compressed
air, such as air impact wrenches and hammers.
The most popular power tools are
Portal electric drill
Portal electric circular saw
Jig saws
reciprocating saws
electric screwdrivers
sanders (circular, belt, oscillating, and reciprocating)
routers
power plane
grinder
Angle Grinder
• also known as a side grinder or disc grinder, is a handheld power tool used for grinding (abrasive
cutting) and polishing.
• Angle grinders may be used for removing excess material from a piece.
• There are many different kinds of discs that are used for various materials and tasks, such as cut-off
discs (diamond blade), abrasive grinding discs, grinding stones, sanding discs, wire brush wheels and
polishing pads.
Die Grinder or Pneumatic Grinder
• Pneumatic grinders are generally used for lighter duty jobs where more precision is required. This is
likely because pneumatic grinders can be small and light yet remain powerful, because they do not
contain heavy copper motor windings
Air Compressor
• a pneumatic device that converts power (using an electric motor, diesel or gasoline engine, etc.) into
potential energy stored in pressurized air (i.e., compressed air).
• By one of several methods, an air compressor forces more and more air into a storage tank, increasing
the pressure.
• This tool is used with pneumatic tools connected with a hose.
Jig Saw
• a saw which uses a reciprocating blade to cut irregular curves, such as stenciled designs, in wood, metal,
or other materials.
• A jigsaw power tool is made up of an electric motor and a reciprocating saw blade. Jigsaws with sole
plates that have a beveling function can cut angles typically up to 45 degrees
Circular Saw
• a tool used for cutting many materials such as wood, masonry, plastic, or metal and may be hand-held
or mounted to a machine.
• A Circular saw is a power-saw using a toothed or abrasive disc or blade to cut different materials using a
rotary motion spinning around an arbor.
• Circular saw blades are specially designed for each particular material they are intended to cut and in
cutting wood are specifically designed for making rip-cuts, cross-cuts, or a combination of both.
Hand drill
• hand drill is a type of power tools that serve as a tool to make holes. Hand drill machines have many
types of drill bits according to their respective uses.
• Among the types of hand drill machines are electric hand drill (using cable), cordless drill (using
batteries), and air drill (using air compressor).
Impact driver
• Portable impact wrench or impact key is a type of power tools used to loosen or tighten bolts/nuts very
quickly. This tool is often used in automotive workshops and factories.
Impact wrench
a socket wrench power tool designed to deliver high torque output with minimal exertion by the user.
Impact wrenches do a great job of tightening and loosening bolts, lug nuts and rusted fasteners. They
provide a very high rotational torque that regular drills are simply not capable of and deliver high torque
output with minimal exertion
Power screwdriver
Screwdriver or pneumatic screwdriver is a type of power tools used to facilitate some of the work of
mechanics in the workshop.
This pneumatic screwdriver is used on screws or bolts that have high torque fastening. Pneumatic
screwdrivers have almost the same function as impact wrench.
Nail gun
• The nail gun is used to nail nails or brad nails on wooden models and structures. Just like a typical gun,
it will fire a nail at the target area and literally nail it.
• Nail gun works with the combination of compressed air
Oscillating Multi-tool
• Multi-tools have interchangeable heads so that they can be used for many kinds of applications. An
oscillating multi-tool can be used for trimming, sanding, pipe cutting, and paint removal.
• The name "multi-tool" is a reference to the many functions that this tool can perform with the range of
attachments available.
Orbital sander
• Orbital sanders are a specialized tool that features a vibrant sanding surface. As the name implies, this
sander is circular in shape and functions in a rotating motion. The tool operates by an electric motor
which runs at a super high speed.
• to smooth surfaces such as rough metal, wood or plastic. They can be used to remove paint or rust.
These sanders are best used on flat surfaces and should be held with even pressure across the face of the
pad.
Finishing sanders
• Tool use to remove dents, mill marks, and other flaws from an object.
• They are also used for the purpose of smoothing rough surfaces, leveling out and shaping objects.
• This is done using the type of sander that has either a square or rectangular base. These shapes are useful
around the corners, as opposed to the other sanders which are extremely difficult to run around corners.
Belt Sanders
• Consists of a motor turning a pair of cylinders on which is mounted a continuous loop of sandpaper.
• Belt sanders are large, powerful, and are excellent at the rapid removal of wood.
• They are also great for smoothing rough surfaces, leveling, rounding, and shaping.
• tools commonly used for trimming to a scribed line, sanding rough surfaces, leveling surfaces (like a
replacement board in a hardwood floor) and freehand rounding and shaping.
Router.
• This setup makes them especially good for hollowing out (“routing”) an area in hard material, mostly
wood or plastic. But because of the many different router bits existing, they are also great for a whole lot
of other tasks involving trimming, cutting, or shaping.
• portable electric power tool used in carpentry and furniture making that consists of an electric motor, a
base, two handle knobs, and bits (cutting tools).
• The motor has a chuck for holding the bits by their straight shanks on one end of its shaft and fits
upright (chuck down) in the base.
Miter saw
• A miter saw is a power saw designed to make cuts at different angles. It is made of a circular saw blade
mounted on a swing arm.
• Miter saws are primarily used to cut wood trim and molding or to make any miter cut into wood. But,
they can also cut metal, masonry, or plastic, provided the appropriate blade is mounted on the saw.
Types of miter saws
• A standard miter saw is the most basic as it can only perform crosscuts and miter cuts.
• A sliding miter saw has a rail system that slides the blade from front to back. This type of saw allows us
to cut through wider pieces.
• With a compound miter saw, in addition to standard cuts, you will also be able to make bevel cuts as
well as compound cuts (miter and bevel).
• Finally, the sliding compound miter saw is a compound miter saw with a sliding function.
Table saw
• A table saw consists of a circular saw blade mounted on an arbor that is driven by an electric motor,
either directly, by belts, or by gears. The blade sticks out from the top of a table, which is used for
driving the workpiece, usually wood.
• The blade height can be adjusted. Moving it up or down allows the user to set the depth of cut he needs.
Portable plane
• a power tool used to adjust the thickness of a board or to create a flat surface on a piece of wood. This
tool is a handheld device and it is powered either by a battery or by a power cord.
• The power planer features a rotating blade affixed to the bottom of the tool, and a guide plate to help the
user keep the tool flat and straight during use.
