TYPES OF MAPS
Political Map

A political map shows the state and national boundaries of places. It may also include
the locations of large and small cities, depending on the details of the map. The places on the
map are usually represented by varying colors in order to identify the division. Boundaries that
are administrative, political, jurisdictional, or legal are depicted on a political map. It is widely
used to present census and election results.

A physical map shows bodies of water like rivers and lakes, which are commonly
presented in a blue hue; it also documents mountains and elevations, which come in a variety
of colors and shades. The common hue for lower elevations is green, and for higher elevations,
it is brown. Generally, it presents a clear and detailed representation of the physical features
and may also indicate the elevation of a certain location or region.

A topographic map shows different physical landscape features, and it uses contour lines
to show the changes in the landscape, specifically changes in elevation. In addition to being
utilized for travel, hiking, and orienteering, it is also employed by the government and business
sector for tasks including land ownership, mining, urban planning, emergency management,
and disaster response.

A climate map presents information pertaining to the climate of an area, specifically the
climatic zones that are dependent on the temperature, the average number of cloudy days, and
so on. These information are shown through different climatic areas. This type of map makes it
possible for weather, climate, and atmospheric researchers and observers to monitor and
depict changes in the climate within or between different locations. It helps to quantify factors
that may influence the impacts of flooding, drought, or high wind zones.
Road Map

A road map shows both major and minor highways and roads; hence, it is one of the
most widely used map types as it gives direction. It also includes airports, cities, parks,
monuments, and other areas that can be described as points of interest. Thick lines generally
show the major highways and narrow lines for minor roads.
