It gets realy hot in the summer in India. Sometimes it gets so hot that schools
and colleges have to close for a few days. In the UK, schools have been closed
recently because of wet weather and schools in America are often clesed because
ff strong winds. Imagine though living in the north up in a region of Siberia in
Russia,
They understand what it ig like to live life In hard conditions. It regularly stays
below -80 degrees Celsius for most of the winter. Most people find it hard to
Understand how people can live in such cold. Although the weather in the summer
is nice and cool, never too hot and never too cold, winter is a different story, 50

Last winter, the temperature got all the way down to ~60 degrees for a period of

is hard to Imagine walking to school in this weather.
The cold is not the only difficulty. They only have around 16 hours a month of
sunshine in December and January. That's less than half an hour every day! But
this is to be expected in a region that is only 260 miles away from the Arctic Circle.

Have you ever found anything exciting? Well, one man from Michigan State,
‘America, found a rock over twenty years ago that turned out to be very interesting,
‘The man found the rock in a barn he had bought. The barn was in a small place
called Edmore, It was just there, and the previous owner didn't want it. The rock
‘was not small, In fact, it weighs about 13 kilograms.
Because of the nice look of the very black rock and its size and shape, he decided
to use it. He used it as a doorstop to keep his door open in the summer when
it's warm. He was very pleased with it and his friends and neighbours who visited
would sometimes comment that they liked it. The man used it lke this for twenty
years.
One day recently, when he was reading the news, he saw a picture of what he
thought was his rock in an article. The rock was not his, but it was a smaller
version of the same type of rock. Amazingly, it turned out that the rock he was
looking at in the news was a meteorite that fell to earth from space thousands
of years ago.
This excited him, so he phoned up the local university and asked them if
they would check his rock. They tested it and reported back to him that it
was in fact a gargantuan meteorite and possibly the biggest they had seen
Immediately he decided it was time to sell his doorstop. The lucky man from
Michigan received over $100,000 for it. He gave some to chatty and some to
the university. He was extremely happy and thought it was cartainly the best
