1. Organic fertilizer improves soil condition.

2. Watering of plants can be done once a week.
3. Cultivating the soil around the plants can help fast absorption of
nutrients.
4. Planting trees can help in producing oxygen.
5. Proper cultivation, watering of plants and putting proper fertilizers helps
in produce quality seedlings.
Discover

An orchard grower needs to carefully plan an orchard project to

avoid inefficient spending. It is important to consider that once an orchard
project is started, the proper care for seedlings and trees should be
properly undertaken. There are tried and tested systematic and scientific
ways of caring orchard trees/ seedlings such as watering, cultivating, and
preparing and applying organic fertilizer.

A. Watering the plants

Proper irrigation or providing enough water to the plant is very
important for each orchard whether it is wide or small. It must be done
properly for the seedlings to grow healthy and the trees to start bearing
good quality fruits. There are three ways in watering plants:
1.Natural—Watering the plants through the rain.
2.Manual—Watering the plants using pail and dipper or water
sprinkler.
3.Artificial- water produced from a deep well, dams, and river
with the help of motors.
➢ Surface or Furrow Irrigation – Water is distributed to each
row so it is applicable only for row crops with uniform slope.
➢ Sprinkler Irrigation – This include the line, rotating, and
micro sprinklers in which artificial rain is generated.
➢ Drip or Trickle Irrigation – A special water source designed
to discharge water close to the plant, wetting only that area
and leaving the rest dy.
➢ Sub-irrigation – This type is very high in cost because the
water source is underground.

B. Cultivating the soil around the plants

Cultivating the soil/land is important to help the roots grow faster
and improve aeration for fast absorption of nutrients from the soil. There
are two ways of cultivating the soil:
1.Off-barring- cultivating the soil in rows
2.Hilling -up – cultivating the soil towards the base of the plant
and control the growth of weeds. Soil texture will improve plant
growth, the bacteria and microorganisms found in the soil will
not stay long and later it will die.

C. Applying proper fertilizer to the plants

Fertilizer is a substance added to the soil that help the plants grow
healthy. It makes the soil or land more fertile or productive by adding
suitable substances. Fertilizers are classified into two, these are:
1. Inorganic- artificial fertilizer made from chemicals (liquid,
soluble and granular form).
2. Organic- natural fertilizer from decayed materials, animals,
and other natural sources.
➢ Humus – comes from decayed matters from plants and
animals mixed with soil.
➢ Manure – comes from animal wastes
➢ Compost – comes from decomposed biodegradable wastes
➢ Vermi compost – comes from waste of vermin
(earthworm)
➢ Liquid Fertilizer – made from the juice of plants and
vermin compost through the process of concoction.
