Hello.

Welcome to this video about the online library resources you can access for free through Sheffield Hallam.

This includes thousands of resources you would otherwise not be able to access.

This video will explain:

- What resources are available to you from Sheffield Hallam

- How to find and access these resources via Sheffield Hallam's Library Gateway

- How to log into these resources

- How to get further help

Sheffield Hallam's online resources are accessible from a website called the Library Gateway. You can find a link
under the IT & Library tab on MyHallam.

However, you can also go directly to the Library Gateway, which has the simple web address library.shu.ac.uk

Many of the online resources available through the Library Gateway require a log in. The default login for almost all
resources is your standard Sheffield Hallam username and password. Use those login details unless told otherwise. In
the event that you need to log in in a different way, there will be instructions telling you what you need to do.

There are two main places to look for information on the Library Gateway:

First is Library Search. Library Search is a broad search covering all subjects, including both physical books on the
shelves and online resources. If you just want online material, next to any search results there is an online box you
can click on to just give you the results for online resources.

On Library Search, you can find ebooks, online magazines and journals, and video and audio recordings.

Any resources that are available online will say Available Online. If you click on the title of the resource, you will then
get links or links to the resource.

Secondly, there are the subject guides, which contain multiple databases and search engines. Unlike Library Search,
these concentrate only on certain subjects. There are different guides for different subject areas. Because they are
focused on a specific area, these can allow you to carry out more sophisticated searches for in-depth research.

On the subject guides, you can find online journals and magazines, as well as more unusual material such as market
research reports, company data, legal information, mapping services, standards and patents, plus many more.
Almost all the resources on the subject guides are available online.

There are lots of databases on the subject guides, which link to resources in different ways. But usually there is a link
in the results list saying PDF, HTML, or Full Text: sometimes even a combination of these words. In some cases, there
may not be a direct link to a journal article. In which case, there will normally be a SHULinks link. Clicking on this will
find you a link to the article if one exists.

If you need any help using any of the resources on the Library Gateway, there is a Contact Us link at the top right of
the webpage. There are lots of ways of getting in touch with the Sheffield Hallam library: by telephone, email, chat or
Twitter. Please ask if you have any questions.

There are also online resources on the Library Gateway which provide support with various library-related activities,
such as searching for information, or referencing the information you find, or academic writing and thinking.

Thank you for watching this video. We hope it has been helpful.
