E.L. Mira Technoservices Inc.

E.L. Mira Technoservices Inc. is a large manufacturer of control systems for the
electrical power generation and distribution industry. Over the past few years, the company
has watched overseas competitors take away market share with products that are priced lower
and that, at the same time, have developed a reputation for better reliability. Although the
company is not in a dangerous position yet, the board of directors wants to see a concerted
effort to improve its competitive posture.
In addition, the board wants to solve the quality problem that is gradually arising in the
implementation of their control systems. System glitches have been evident in several projects
of the company, which strongly affect the company’s overall reliability to its clients. During
the discussion with senior management, a proposal to implement the quality standards of ISO
9000 was considered.
However, Mira Shikigami, the company's CEO, is not at all convinced that the mere
application of quality standards will solve their organizational problem and result in greater
market share for the company. The CEO believes that addressing quality issues requires a
comprehensive approach that goes beyond implementing ISO 9000 standards.
He emphasizes the need for a deep analysis of the control systems and processes in
order to identify the root causes and find lasting solutions that will truly enhance the
company's competitiveness and client reliability.
Answer the following (2 items x 10 points):

1. If you are a part of the E.L. Mira Technoservices Inc. Senior Management team,
how would you persuade the CEO to implement ISO 9000 quality standards to solve
organizational problems and increase the company's marketshare?
• I would like to underline to the CEO that integrating ISO 9000 can have a big
influence on the organization by establishing a defined framework for quality
management. This methodology will assist us in identifying and addressing
the underlying causes of our present system faults, thereby improving the
reliability of our control systems. By enhancing the quality and consistency of
our products, we can better satisfy consumer demands, regain trust, and
increase our competitiveness. Furthermore, ISO 9000 will not only assist
optimize our operations, but will also instill a culture of constant
enhancement in our staff, resulting in long-term advantages and greater
market share.

2. What quality standards would you establish to attain maximum productivity and
deliver high-quality services for the company?
• To maximize productivity and provide high-quality services at E.L. Mira
Technoservices Inc. would adopt Six Sigma as a fundamental quality standard.
This strategy aims to reduce process variance and improve quality by identifying
and eliminating flaws through data-driven methodologies. Using technologies
like DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), we may
systematically improve our manufacturing processes to consistently meet client
demands. Using this strategy, we can ensure customer pleasure by providing
trustworthy products, eliminate manufacturing inefficiencies brought on by
imperfect products, and eventually meet our profit targets.
