To the hiring manager,
I am writing this letter to further put my name in contention for the position of Lead Caregiver within your organization.
I would like to specifically highlight my most recent work experience, my own history with adults with special needs,
and my passion for human services.
In my most recent time at the Alternative Living Center, I was responsible for the effective daily supervision of 1-3
employees while attending to our nearly 50 clients. My duties included overseeing all our residential office tasks and
interacting with clients as well as outside services and vendors.
This ran the gambit from instructing other employees on best practices and policies ordering and upkeeping ~4k in
food products a month for boarding 14 of the client beds including the accounting aspect of this task, maintaining the
vast majority of our digital records as well as instructing clients on interpersonal and life skills, performing drug tests
and group sessions.
I spent approximately 6 months living on-site during my time there in order to service our clients. This put me as the
emergency contact for fires and other emergencies as well as de facto made me on call as needed. This also led to
many client bonds strengthened by virtue of my living on-site.
For my education as it relates to counseling, I have taken courses at The Option Institute and received training in The
Option Method, a process in which a counselor helps another find the core of their problem. I am also currently
involved in education in relation to joining the ACBC and becoming certified as a counselor thru their accreditation
program.
In my own life growing up, my mother was involved with agencies such as BARC and Elder Services of the
Berkshires. I spent my middle and high school years at BARC Dinner Dances and helping out with other events. Thru
these experiences as well as my later professional experiences with several clients at ALC with TBIs and other
cognitive irregularities, I’ve come to appreciate the people that the rest of the world, unfortunately, pities or looks
down on.
Its this appreciation for the beauty in people combined with my deep desire to give back in ways in which I’ve been
helped myself that was manifested in me a passion for human services. I believe it's an obligation of mine to see the
world be a better place.
