My Notes Teddy’s Assignment

The given line graph illustrates changes in birth rates in China and the USA between
1920 and 2000. Overall, both countries experienced a decline in birth rates over the
period, with the USA consistently maintaining a slightly higher rate than China.

In the first stage, from 1920 to 1930, birth rates in both countries remained relatively
stable. During the second stage, from 1930 to 1950, significant fluctuations occurred.
China’s birth rate dropped sharply around 1940, while the USA experienced a similar
decline around 1945. This period of fluctuation culminated in a peak for both countries
around 1950.

From 1960 onwards, both countries entered the third stage, characterized by a steady
decline in birth rates. This downward trend continued until 2000, with the USA
maintaining a marginally higher birth rate than China by the end of the period. Despite
fluctuations, the overall trend for both countries was a decrease in birth rates.
