SUMMARY

CAREER DECISION SELF-EFFICACY AMONG SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

STUDENTS IN RELATION TO THEIR PARENTAL ENCOURAGEMENT AND
EMOTIONAL MATURITY
Amandeep Kaur (Research scholar), Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The present investigation was designed to examine the effect of Parental encouragement and
Emotional maturity on Career decision self-efficacy of senior secondary school students. It also
further highlighted the area-wise and gender difference in Career decision self-efficacy of senior
secondary school students. This study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A sample of
900 students from different urban and rural area senior secondary schools of Moga and Ludhiana
districts was selected. Data was collected with the help of Career decision self-efficacy scale by
Taylor & Betz (2006), Emotional maturity scale by Dr. Yashvir Singh and Dr. Mahesh Bhargava
(2006) and Self- constructed Career related Parental encouragement scale. Mean, Median, S.D.,
t-ratio, ANOVA (two -way), Product moment correlation and stepwise regression analysis
techniques were employed to analyze the data. This study revealed that 11.4 % of the total
variance in Career decision self-efficacy was as a result of Parental encouragement. However,
emotional maturity accounted for 4.4 % of the total variance in Career decision self-efficacy.
Furthermore, 15.2 % of the total variance in career decision self-efficacy was predicted by
Parental encouragement and Emotional maturity conjointly. This implies that if the Parental
encouragement and Emotional maturity of senior secondary school students are taken care of and
improved together, it will lead to a significant improvement in their Career decision self-
efficacy. Moreover, gender did not play a vital role in Career decision self-efficacy of senior
secondary students. However, urban students have a higher level of Career decision self-efficacy
as compared to their counterparts.
