1. As countries develop, their populations tend to live individually or in small family units.

What are the causes of this trend and what are the effects on society?

2. Some people think that with the increasing use of mobile phones and computers,
people lose the ability to communicate face to face. To what extent do you agree or

3. Some people think that getting old is a negative thing, whereas others think it is much
easier for people to live in modern society. Discuss both views and give your own
opinion.

4. In modern society, ambition is more and more important. How important is ambition
for being successful in life? Is ambition a positive or negative characteristic?

5. In some countries around the world men and women are having babies late in life.
What are the reasons? Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

6. In the past, people lived in one place for a long time, but now they can live in many
different places. What are the reasons? Is this a positive or negative development?

7. People can learn about culture and life through the internet. So there is no need to
travel to other countries to learn about cultures. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?

8. Some people say that to benefit the development of a child, the mother and father
should take parenting classes. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this
statement?

9. In the same cities, governments have tried to reduce traffic. For instance, they
impose tax during rush hour. Do you think this development is positive or negative?

10. Differences between countries are becoming less evident nowadays. People tend to
have the same films, music, brands, TV channels, and so on. To what extent do you
