D.A.R.

E Essay
By Manav Patel

You might wonder what is D.A.R.E. Well D.A.R.E. means Drug, Abuse, resistance, and
education. It can help you with solving problems. I also used the D.A.R.E. Decision making
model to help break down problems.
The first thing we did in dare was learn the affects of drugs and what was in them. In most
drugs there is an addictive substance called nicotine. It is used so people get addicted to those
drugs, therefore they make money. In cigarettes and dip there is tobacco. Tobacco is a plant
that naturally has nicotine. In cigarettes dried up tobacco leaves are usually burned when
smoking. Cigarettes can also cause Brain damage, cancer, loss of senses, and make the white
parts of your eyes yellow. Smoking cigarettes also causes 480,000 deaths per year in the
United States. On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.
On the other hand, alcohol is also very dangerous. Also, it causes more harm to teens than
adults. It can harm every organ in your body. It is also illegal to drink alcohol if you are under 21
years old. And if you mix medicine with alcohol it can kill you. It causes there to be less blood
pumped to your heart as well. It is also responsible for 95,000 deaths in the United States.
Alcohol also shortens your life by 29 years.
Stress is also something we learned about. Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical
tension. It can come from any event or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, or
nervous. Stress is your body's reaction to a challenge or demand. In short bursts, stress can be
positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a deadline. To help with stress you can
do things you like, count backwards, or take deep breaths.
Bullying is also something we learned about. When you are being bullied use the five W’s.
The five are who, what, when, where, and why. You can tell an adult about it but make sure not
to tattle. If you see someone else being bullied you can defend the innocent but try not to start
a fight. You can also walk away peacefully. If this keeps on repeating you can tell a trusted
adult. If the adults don’t care just stay with a group. There is safety in numbers.
Peer pressure is another thing we learned about. Peer Pressure Occurs when people
around your age are trying to get you to something. It can be good or bad depending how you
handle it or how it affects you. There are many ways to handle peer pressure like walking away
or ignoring. There are a few bad ways too like screaming, yelling, and fighting. It is best to know
in situations that you can always deal with problems in a positive way.
In conclusion D.A.R.E. is really helpful with dealing with situations. You learn about why
not to use drugs and you learn ways to handle stress. I D.A.R.E. you to use D.A.R.E.
