Ranchi district is a district in the state of Jharkhand. The Ranchi district ranks third in terms of area and first in terms of population. There are eighteen blocks/subdivisions under the district covering
5097 Km2 as per census 2011.

The total population of the “Ranchi district” is 2914253 and out of this total population, urban population is 1257335 (43%) and rural population is 1656918 (57%). Female population in the district is
1419316 (49%) and male population is 1494937. Hence the sex ratio accounts as 949 females per 1000 males. The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) population is 152943 and
1042016 respectively.
The total number of households in the Ranchi district is 569444 according to Census data. The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act/Scheme (MNREGA) 2021-22 registered
labour reports shows 426329 registered household with MNREGA in the district.
