Mia Sanders finds herself entangled in complicated emotions
when her event planning company is hired by the Detroit Red
Wings. Her bitter breakup with Ryan, fueled by his incessant
comparison to his star athlete brother, Ethan Matthews,
complicates matters. Despite initial sparks, Mia's affection
for Ethan grows after bonding with his son, Senna.
Ethan navigates post-game routines with his ex-wife while
grappling with unresolved feelings for Mia. Meanwhile, Mia's
interactions with Ryan and Ethan stir mixed emotions, leading
to unexpected encounters and intimate moments.
As tensions rise, Mia's anger toward Ethan escalates,
culminating in a passionate encounter. The aftermath leaves
Mia grappling with unexpected consequences, while Ethan seeks
solace in his ex-wife's counsel.
Mia's pregnancy revelation adds further strain to their
relationship, prompting Ethan to confront his feelings and
offer support. Their journey unfolds amidst the backdrop of
playoff games and personal struggles.
Amidst turmoil and uncertainty, Ethan's heartfelt proposal
marks a turning point, solidifying their commitment to each
other. Their baby is born surrounded by friends and family,
and their journey culminates in marriage, symbolizing their
enduring love amidst trials and triumphs.
1. Mia - Mia Sanders’ event planning company is hired by the Detroit
Red Wings to tend to the wives’ room and after parties. The problem
is, that her ex’s older brother, Ethan Matthews, is the star center-
fielder of the team, and she broke up with Ryan, the younger
brother, because he couldn’t stop comparing himself to him. She’s
bitter about it and sparks fly, but she treats his son Senna nicely
which puts a tinge of affection from him to her.
2. Ethan - He’s at his ex-wife’s house, putting his son to sleep after
the game, and talks to her about Mia. The wife says she still looks
pissed about him, but he says, lying, that he doesn’t care.
3. Mia - Knowing that Ryan is back in town, she drops by his hotel
room to give back all the stuff he forgot in her house. Ethan is there
with Senna, and the kid drags her into the playtime. They hit it off in
the end, and she is the one with a tinge of affection for Ethan.
4. Ethan - Ethan meets with Ryan, an investment banker, to check on
his finances, and the two argue about Mia. Throwbacks from the
past fly by, and Ethan rubs on Ryan’s face that Mia only broke up
with him because he didn’t want kids.
1
5. Mia - They travel for the second playoff game, and Mia gets to know
the wives through Ethan’s ex-wife, with whom she was friends back
when she dated Ryan. The wife confesses she doesn’t have the
same respect around because now she’s divorced, and is only
allowed in because of their kid.
6. Ethan - After the next game, he meets Mia with a champagne glass
at the hotel rooftop. She’s already off the loop and confesses she
can’t stand his face because of all he meant in her and Ryan’s
relationship, but that his son redeems him a little. He takes it, but
says he is not the reason of their breakup, but her longing for a
relationship like the the one he had with his ex, which was a farce
anyway, so it was all in vain. She stands to leave, sad, but he offers
to take her to her room and just tucks her in bed and leaves.
7. Mia - The next day, she’s handling the catering of a press
conference room and feels so inexplicably angry with Ethan that she
calls Ryan to find out what’s his problem. At first, she doesn’t know
what to say, but in the end, they bad-mouth Ethan together and
bond a little over it. Ryan says that he misses her, but then she gets
nervous and hangs up the call.
8. Ethan - He’s all flirts with Mia during the after-party, but his ex-wife
defends her from him, until the point where she dismisses the help
and decides to take care of Ethan herself. She comes in
aggressively, which leaves him confused. When he asks where did
that all come from, she says he didn’t whisk her off her feet when he
had the chance, and he says with a smug smirk that this can be
solved right now.
9. Mia (One Night Stand) - They go to his room and have sex with wild
rage. In the morning after, she realizes in terror that they forgot all
about protection, and she’s out of Plan Bs. The visit of Ethan’s son
ends up distracting her and it’s too late.
10. Ethan - He feels guilty for sleeping with his brother’s ex, and uses
his ex-wife as a confidant, dumping everything on her. He wants to
tell him everything and offer an olive branch before things get any
worse, but the ex alerts him that Mia needs to have a word on this
too. He then seeks Mia, who says she’s not telling his brother about
something meaningless, which severely disappoints and hurts
Ethan.
11. Mia (Pregnancy Discovered) - Weeks go by, and what is inevitable
happens: Mia finds herself pregnant of Ethan, and dumps everything
on her doctor for the lack of a close friend to confide in. The doctor
directs her to a psychologist and she sadly takes the hint — the only
friend around she has is Ethan’s ex-wife, but she’s not about to fess
up to her.
12. Ethan - Ethan bids a teary goodbye to his son, and Mia is there to
say goodbye to the ex-wife too. The ex insists on him to talk to Mia,
which he does, but now she knows something(pregnancy) and it
shows. He tries to pry, but she’s not having it, so he gives up and
just invites her to grab a bite. Reluctantly, she accepts with a smile.
13. Mia - In the hotel lounge, one of the hockey wives spots her crying,
2
and a defense line forms around her when she reveals she’s
pregnant with one of the players. The hockey wives suggest they go
after him, but Mia pulls back and pleads discrecy, even though now
she knows it is too late and gossip will spread.
14. Ethan (2nd Sex Scene) - The gossip reaches the players, and
everybody is wondering who’s the father of the event planner. He
goes to seek Mia to clarify that, but she denies everything. In a
passion rampant, they have sex, using a condom this time.
15. Mia - Ryan starts sending her messages trying to rekindle the
flame, and offers to meet her in New York where the team comes to
play. She’s so lonely she takes it, and they meet at a nice
restaurant, where he tries to make a pass on her, but she confesses
that she is pregnant, and has a crying fit when he questions her who
the father is. He leaves thinking she doesn’t know who the father is
and pitying her, and she leaves thinking she committed a mistake
and only made a fool of herself.
16. Ethan - A dental injury during a game puts Ethan in the player’s
box, and he’s so angry about it that Mia has to intervene and calm
him down. The two talk after the following game, and even with his
face still swollen she makes a pass on him, inviting him to her room.
17. Mia (3rd Sex Scene) - Very carefully, they have sex. In the end, she
confesses that she is really pregnant, but not that it’s his. When he
asks who the father is, she tells him to forget about it, because it
happened before they got together.
18. Ethan - The injuries heal and he’s back in the game. The Red Wings
win a decisive match, and he’s up for celebrating. He invites Mia for
an informal outing with the rest of the team, and the wives pry if
Ethan is up to raising Mia’s baby. Things get awkward, and they get
a separate table and talk about it. Mia says she doesn’t care about
the baby having a father since she give it a good life on her own,
and he deconverses saying he could get used to being a father but
is not so sure.
19. Mia - Now she’s bitting her nails. Things are getting serious, and
she can only think of one person to confide in: Ethan’s ex wife. She
begs for her forgiveness to be dwelling with a man that was hers,
but the ex dismisses the silliness since they haven’t had anything
for years. Mia tells her that she’s pregnant AND that it’s Ethan’s,
and this time she knows the secret will remain a secret.
20. Ethan (Going Steady) - He’s unable to focus on training, and
excuses himself to go seek Mia. He finds her discussing the next
team event with the wives and the team coordination, and takes her
to take a trip through Washington. At the Lincoln Memorial, he
opens up his heart and says that he is willing to be the father of her
baby if she wants him to. Crying, she says yes.
21. Mia - She’s up to her caboose with preparations for Kid’s Day with
the players, when Senna begins to pester her, not out of annoyance,
but out of love. She does her best to be patient with the kid, but he
exerts her to the limit, and in the end she raises her voice and the
kid cries, running to his mother. The mother takes it in good nature,
3
but Ethan is furious and confronts her, which leaves her feeling bad.
When she is alone, she confides in Ryan that she argued with his
brother.
22. Ethan (Pregnancy Revealed) - He meets Ryan in the backstage at
the next game and asks why he’s there. When he learns he’s there
to see Mia, he patiently waits for her and asks her what is she doing
confiding in Ryan when she has him, she says it was something she
couldn’t tell him, and finally fesses up that she’s pregnant of him.
Both brothers are shocked. Ryan questions her, and Ethan says he
needs some time to think.
23. Mia - Now she’s terrified Ethan will reject her, and is only working
due to her ability to function on automatic. She turns off her phone
and starts to avoid Ethan, even staying at a different hotel than the
delegation. Only weeks later is that she turns on her phone and
finds message after message from Ethan, one more romantic than
the other, until he finally bows out to give her time. Time given, she
seeks for Ethan, to bask in his acceptance of their baby.
24. Ethan - Mia and Ethan decide in common accord to tell all the truth
to Ryan, and decide to meet him in his hometown. He doesn’t take it
well, thinking Mia cheated on him with Ethan, but she says that’s
not the truth and goes into crying, but Ethan protects her, saying
that she is telling the truth and that none of them would do such a
thing with him. Ryan grows alarmed, but Ethan finally offers his
much coveted olive branch, and Ryan accepts it.
25. Mia (Forced Proximity) - They’re back in Detroit for a series of at-
home games, and Ethan decides to throw a party for his team and
the rivals. However, an unseasonable snowstorm brings only Ryan
to his house, and he refuses to leave Mia and Ethan alone until it is
impossible to leave. With the lights out, while the men take care of
the generator, Mia follows, trying to break them apart, and feeling
ignored has an angry fit and says she’s old enough to decide what’s
best for her without others deciding it for her, and that she chooses
to be with Ethan.
26. Ethan - She brings her parents into town so he could properly meet
them and give in the news. Her father thinks everything will be very
confusing from now on, but Ethan jokes he and Ryan don’t look that
much alike, which makes him fall under his grace. While Mia and her
mother do some girly-girl stuff, the men bond over their hobbies and
interests, and the father makes him promise that he will not falter
where his brother did. Ethan utters a heartfelt promise that he will
take care of Mia and the baby with his life.
27. Mia - Ethan takes her to have dinner with his parents, and things
get instantly awkward because his mother hasn’t forgiven her for
causing Ryan a lot of suffering. She holds back the urge to cry and
puts on an adult act and says she and her son already talked it out
and are well-resolved about everything, that Ethan and her are
having a baby and there’s nothing she can do about it. The mother
seeks Ethan to corroborate her side, but he takes Mia’s side.
28. Ethan (4th Sex Scene) - They arrive at the hotel. She’s angry about
4
the incident with his mother and doesn’t want anything to do with
Ethan, but he teases her enough so they have sex in the bathtub.
29. Mia - With the proximity of Summertime, Ethan’s ex-wife comes
more often to bring the kid. Mia spends all the time she can with
her, confessing that she is the only, and most unexpected friendship
she has ever had.
30. Ethan - Two games until the end of the playoffs, and he is a pile of
nerves. Mia takes him to have some fun at an ice rink, where he can
just be himself, and not perform as a player. But obviously, he ends
up in the middle of a game with a bunch of kids, and even Mia is
drawn to it.
31. Mia (5th Sex Scene) - Ethan’s ex-wife arrives with some gossip from
his mother, which leaves her incredibly angry. She discounts it on
Ethan, who doesn’t know what he did but offers to take her on a
road trip to calm her down. In a field of wildflowers, they make love,
and she opens up about what’s going on. He assures her everything
will be okay, his mother just needs time to accept the new
conditions.
32. Ethan (Proposal) - It’s the Stanley Cup final, and in the last break
time, Ethan invades the rink with the mascot. While the mascot
goes grab Mia from the audience, he goes on a romantic speech,
drops down to one knee and asks her to marry him, but before she
can answer, the lights of the arena go out. Mia and Ethan talk in the
dark, and as thousands of cell phones flicker in the dark like stars,
she says yes. When the lights return, they’re kissing, affirming to
the audience that it is a positive.
33. Mia (Bliss) - Months pass. From the moment the water breaks, till
the moment the baby is born, we accompany everything, with the
whole family gathered around in expectation for the baby.
34. Ethan (Wedding) - After much arguing, Mia concedes and they get
married at the Red Wings Arena, during halftime of a demonstration
game.
“You can do it!” I tell myself in the mirror, “You’re the best at what you
do!”
The W.C.’s door opens, and Sheena, from the catering, walks in,
seemingly amused by seeing me talking to myself.
“What are you doing, Mia?” she asks, lightly, coming to wash her hands
by my side before entering one of the bathroom stalls.
“Heh, just some pep talk,” I say, an awkward smile embroidered over
my lips, even though she can’t see it. “Are people eating already?”
“Yup,” she says, while I go through the sound of the woman peeing,
even though I don’t really have to. It’s just nice to have someone to talk
to. “Voraciously.”
“Please tell me we won’t run out of food,” I place a hand over my
chest.
“No, don’t worry!” she flushes, then comes to rewash her hands,
“Those people can shove pigs in a blanket up their nostrils and we’ll still
have leftovers. But tell me…”
5
While I’m leaning over the marble counter of the bathroom sinks,
Sheena elbows me in the ribs and seems to take an interest in me. With
kind eyes, she asks “Why aren’t you outside bossing everyone around?”
I let out a heavy sigh, and look over my shoulder toward the mirror,
seeing there somebody who’s very afraid to face the music. “My ex is
there. And, most importantly, his older brother.”
“Uh, tough…” Sheena says. “But can’t you avoid them?”
Once again I sigh, and rolling my eyes, let escape “My ex is Ryan
Mathews, CEO of Traveler’s Investment, sponsor of the team.”
Sheena’s eyes go wide “And the older brother?” she asks.
“None other than Red Wings’ star center player Ethan Mathews. He’s a
billionaire too, by the way,” I say. “They came to hate each other because
of me and Ryan’s breakup — Ryan was very insecure because of his
brother and that put a halt on us. I’m afraid a bomb will explode if the
three of us get together.”
The lady by my side winces, compassionately, and places a hand on
my shoulder, rubbing me with some encouragement before finishing with
a gentle slap on my back.
“We need to work, Mia!” she says, full of energy, “I better get out there
before the waiters turn feral.”
She leaves, and not a second later, I follow suit. The employee’s
bathroom is inside the employee’s lounge, which is empty right now, save
for a security guard flirting with one of the waitresses, but they disperse
as soon as they see me.
I walk into the saloon while taking a deep breath. For a blissful
moment, I’m a queen among these people; everything they might need,
they’ll come to me. But following that, I realize that’s not something to
beam about, and return to my usual humble self.
Trying to check on the bar, I find myself facing my biggest fear: Ryan
and Ethan, talking to each other.
We all spot one another at the same time, and the brother’s visage
turns bitter the same second.
“Hello, Mia,” Ryan says, full of resentment in his eyes.
“Looking pretty today, Mia,” Ethan offers with a smug smile if only to
get on Ryan’s nerves.
Lord, why did I accept the task of organizing this year’s NHL events if I
knew this would end up happening?
