Schedule October 11, 2024 Chapter 3

I. OBJECTIVES:
A. Content Standards The students will explore and identify essential carpentry tools, including saws, hammers, chisels,
levels, and measuring tapes. They will understand the functions and proper use of each tool,
enabling them to select and utilize the appropriate tools for various carpentry tasks safely and
effectively.
B. Performance The students should be able to demonstrate the proper handling and use of saws, hammers,
Standards chisels, levels, and measuring tapes, ensuring safety and accuracy in tool operation.
C. Learning At the end of the lesson, at least 80% of the students should be able to;
Competencies and a. identify the essential carpentry tools (saws, hammers, chisels, levels, and measuring tapes) and
Objectives describe their functions.
b. demonstrate the proper use of each carpentry tool in a safe and correct manner.
c. appreciate the importance of using the right tools for the job and handling them with care.

Module No. 3

IV. LEARNING PROCESS:

A. Elicit The teacher will call on a student and ask the following:
(Recall/Priming/Drill)  What was the previous lesson about?
 Can you give the formula for calculating voltage, current, and resistance using
Ohm’s Law?
B. Engage The teacher will show pictures with words that have missing letters. Students will need to fill
(Establish and/or present in the missing letters to form complete words. Afterward, the teacher will ask them to share
lesson goals/Connect) their ideas about what they think the lesson will be about.
 Based on our activity, what do you think today's lesson will be about?
C. Explore WHAT IS CARPENTRY?
(Scientific
Inquiry/common A skilled trade in which the primary work performed is the cutting, shaping, and installation
experience) of building materials during the construction of buildings, ships, timber bridges, concrete
form work, etc.

Carpenter is a builder or a skilled craftsman who perform carpentry works.

CARPENTRY TOOLS
Saws are tools used for cutting materials, primarily wood.
 Hand Saw: A manual saw used for cutting wood across or along the grain. It’s ideal
for rough cuts.
 Coping Saw: Used for intricate cuts in thinner wood. It has a thin blade perfect for
detailed work like cutting curves.
 Circular Saw: A power tool used for cutting larger wood pieces quickly.
 Hack Saw: Primarily used for cutting metal but can be used for plastic or wood as
well.
Hammers are primarily used for driving nails, breaking materials, or fitting parts.
 Claw hammer: The most common hammer, featuring a curved claw on one side for
pulling out nails.
 Sledgehammer: A large hammer used for breaking down walls or driving stakes
into the ground.
 Mallet: A wooden or rubber hammer for hitting chisels or shaping wood without
leaving dents.
 Ball Peen Hammer: Often used in metalworking, with a rounded peen on one side
and a flat face on the other.
Chisels are tools used for carving or cutting wood by shaving off pieces.
 Wood chisel: Designed for woodworking, used to carve, shave, or shape wood.
 Mortise Chisel: Designed to cut square or rectangular holes (mortises) in wood.
 Bevel-Edge Chisel: Has beveled edges to allow cutting into tight spaces, often
used for detailed woodwork.
 Corner Chisel: Designed for cutting sharp, clean 90-degree corners, typically in
mortise joints.
Levels are used to ensure that surfaces or lines are perfectly horizontal (level) or vertical
(plumb).
 Spirit Level: A long bar with a liquid-filled tube, featuring a bubble to indicate
whether a surface is level.
 Laser Level: Projects a laser beam to indicate straight or level lines over longer
distances.
Measuring tapes are flexible rulers used to measure lengths or distances accurately.
 Retractable Measuring Tape: A compact, portable tape that can retract into its
case, used for measuring large distances.
 Folding Rule: A solid, foldable ruler often used for measuring smaller distances.
 Fiberglass tape measure: is non-conductive, resistant to stretching, and less prone
to rust or corrosion, making them ideal for outdoor use or wet environments.

Guide questions:
a. What are the five essential types of carpentry tools?
b. What is the main function of a saw in carpentry?
c. Which tool is used to measure and check if a surface is level?

D. Explain/Execute The teacher will ask the following:

(Guide students in  What type of hammer would you use to remove nails, and why?
discussing and  Why do you think it's important to use the correct carpentry tool for a specific task?
practicing new skills)  In what situations would you choose a coping saw over a hand saw, and why?

E. Elaborate The class will be divided into four groups, with each group selecting a representative to
