UNIT 2: OVERVIEW

A. OBJECTIVES.
- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
+ Identify traditional costumes from Vietnam.
+ Talk about traditional features in positive ways.
2. Skills:
- Develop Ss listening and speaking skills.
3. Attitudes:
- Recognize traditional costumes from Vietnam.
B. LANGUAGE CONTENT:
- Vocabulary: Traditional costume, country, brother, sister, friend
- Structure: Nice to meet you!
C. TEACHING AIDS.
- Teacher: textbook, lesson plan, TV or projector, workbook, laptop.
- Students: textbooks, notebooks, workbooks, school things.
D. PROCEDURES
Steps Activities Modes
I. Warm-up - Greet the whole class: Hello everyone.
- Bring in some pictures of traditional costumes
from the children’s country. Discuss with the
TWC
children:
“When do students wear these clothes? How do
these clothes look?”
II. New lesson 1. Draw and write
- Stick some pictures about the traditional costume
from Vietnam on the board. Ask Ss: TWC
“What’s it? Have you ever seen them?”.
- Ask the children to look at the picture of the long
dress (Áo Dài) and say if they like it or not. Put the
pictures of local traditional costumes on the board.
T says:
“This is the traditional costume from Vietnam.”
- Ask the pupils to repeat it in chorus, in pairs and Pair work
individual some times
- Do you know any other traditional costumes from
Vietnam?
- Ask the children to draw and colour a costume
from their own country.
- Ask the children to show their drawing of the

costume to the class. Discuss with the class when
we wear our traditional costume.
2. Watch a video about Vietnam
- Play the video and ask Ss to identify some famous
places in Vietnam.
- Ask some Ss to stand up and talk about famous
places in Vietnam (using Vietnamese) Individuals
- Tell Ss about the national pride of being a
Vietnamese citizen.
- Ask the children to draw their own picture of
Vietnamese traditional costumes.
In pairs, have the children guess which kind of
costume it is in his/her partner’s picture

UNIT 2: LESSON 1

- Develop Ss listening and speaking skills.
3. Attitudes:
- The students get more confident to introduce their classroom items.
B. LANGUAGE CONTENT:
- Vocabulary: Pencil, eraser, pen, pencil case, ruler.
- Structure: What is it? It’s a/an…
C. TEACHING AIDS.
- Teacher: textbook, lesson plan, TV or projector, workbook, laptop.

I. Warm-up - Greet the whole class.
- Listen to the ‘Walking, walking song’ on the slide. TWC
- Encourage Ss to stand up and sing along.
II. New lesson 1. Activity 1: Listen and point
- Ask Ss to open the book page 16.
- Introduce the real items first, play the audio CD TWC
and then show the flashcards.
- Teacher asks: “What is it? It’s a/an…”
- Open the audio one more time.
- Ask Ss to listen and point to the thing in their
book.
- Have Ss repeat 3X
- Ask Ss to work in pairs, one points to the school
things in their books, the other says aloud the Pair work

words, then exchanges.


- Show the slide or stick the flashcards of school
things on the board. Invite some pairs to go to the
board to practice pointing and saying aloud the
words using the slide or the flashcards on the board.
Game: Find the things.
- Divide the class into 2 teams.
- Call on 1 student from each team to come to the Group
board. When teacher calls out the item, Ss slap on work

the correct flashcard on the board.


- Give them points/stars for the correct answers.
2. Activity 2: Listen and number:
- Have Ss open the book page 16, point to any items
and ask them: What’s it? Group
work
- Team 1: Answer
- Do the same with team 2.

- Guide Ss how to listen and number
- Play the CD 2 times.
- Show the answer on slide and check.
Game: Find the picture.
- Put the classroom items around the classroom.
- Before asking Ss to find the pictures, T will call
out and point to those pictures and have Ss repeat.
Group
- Call two Ss to go to the board and ask them to find
work
the picture. When teacher says: “Find the pencil”,
Ss have to find that picture and call it out.
- T will do as a model first.
- The student who finds the picture first will be the
winner.

- Recognize the importance of family.
- The students get more confident to introduce their family.

I. Warm-up - Greet the whole class.
- Play a song to create a fun atmosphere.
Game: Miming game
- Divide the class into 2 groups then call one
member from each group to stand in front of the
class.

- Explain the rule of the game: Teacher whispers 2

The two Ss have to use their body language to
demonstrate for others of their groups to guess and
speak aloud the word. The group which guesses and
says the word faster and correctly will win the
round.
II. New lesson 1. Activity 1: "Say and colour"
- Have Ss look at their Pupil's book, page 14
- Ask them to look at Activity 1: “Say and colour"
in their books/on the slide and call out the words of TWC
family members on the airplane’s banner.
- Instruct Ss to colour the family members on the
airplane’s banner in their books.
- Instruct Ss to point to each coloured picture and
say using “This is my (mum).” Ask Ss to work in
pairs to practice saying about their family members
using the coloured pictures in Activity 1.
- Invite some Ss to stand up, show their pictures to
the class and say.
2. Activity 2: Listen and number.
- Have Ss look at Activity 2: “Listen and number”
in their books and call out the words of family
members (grandma, brother, mum). Individuals
- Instruct Ss to listen and number.
- Play the CD, track 12, or use slide 17 of the
powerpoint and have Ss point to the correct picture
as they hear each speaker.
- Play the CD again for them to listen and number

the questions in the correct order.
- Check the answers with the class.
* Work in pairs:
- Ask Ss to work in pairs again, look at activity 2,
point to each picture and say, for example: "My Pair work

3. Activity 3: Look, read and circle.
- Have Ss look at Activity 3
- Ask Ss to look at the pictures “a” to “e” and the
direction of the arrows. Read the words below each Individuals
picture and have Ss find the suitable word.
- Show Ss how to circle the word. Then ask them to
complete the activity in their books.
Game: Tom and Jerry racing.
- Divide the class into 2 groups to play the game:
Tom and Jerry racing. Group
- Explain the rule of the game. work
- Monitor the game and declare the winner.

- Elicit information about the picture and have Ss
answer the questions.
2. Culture Connection
- Explain to Ss that they are going to discover
another country, Botswana. TWC
- Say Botswana and have Ss repeat.
- Help them find the country on a world map or a
globe (use slideshow).
- Lead to information about culture connection.
- Ask Ss if they know anything about Botswana or
Southern Africa.
3. Sing the song
- Say Stand up and gesture to Ss to stand up. Individuals
- Play the CD and demonstrate the actions as the
song plays.
- Practise this a few times, do the actions.
* Game: “Hiding Fox”
- Have Ss look at the screen and play.
