TREZADEL HALL OF RESIDENCE HANDBOOK 2022/2023 ACADEMIC

YEAR

INTRODUCTION
This Manual is intended to inform our esteemed Residents about the rules and
regulations to be followed during their stay at Trezadel Hall of Residence. It
describes the general code of conduct, dos and don'ts that Residents should
observe. Residents are expected to become familiar with these and abide by the
same, so as to ensure that they will have a pleasant environment during their stay
at the hall of residence. The Rules may also be supplemented or modified in
accordance with the evolving needs of the Residents. Should any rule contained
herein conflict with any provision of the Hostel Licence Agreement, the Rules shall
prevail over the Hostel Licence Agreement.

This hall of over 140 capacity is managed by Lexola Global Company Ltd. It is one of
the newest female Hostels in Pan Atlantic University with modern facilities and
excellent pastoral care.

HOSTEL DOS AND DON’TS


1. As the accommodation is on a shared basis, Residents are expected to keep
their beds, personal items, etc., in a clean condition and are also advised not to
occupy furniture / places not allotted to them. Where a Resident uses furniture
not allotted to them and damages the furniture, such Resident will be required
to make good on the damage caused by the Resident. The Hostel shall be
entitled to deduct the cost of the damage from the caution fee.
2. Residents are advised to keep their surroundings clean and tidy to avoid
inconvenience to other inmates of the room and Hostel.
3. Hostel residents should avoid arguments with the administrative and support
staff. Complaints, if any, may be brought to the notice of the Hostel
Administrator / Warden in the register provided.
4. #Playing loud music, noisemaking, lighting incense sticks inside rooms are
strictly forbidden both inside and outside the rooms as it affects the safety and
convenience of all inmates of the Hostel. Cooking in the rooms or at any of the
premises by the Residents is not permitted. Anyone found to be indulging in
such activities will be asked to vacate the Hostel. The fees paid will not be
refunded.
5. A Resident will not be allowed to change the room and also the room layout
without prior written approval from the Hostel Administrator/Warden or
Manager. The Hostel gates are closed at 10pm, if any Resident wishes to go out
of the Hostel or enter after this time, she is required to meet the Manager or to
call and give reasons/required details before she will being allowed to leave or
enter the premises. Arguments with the security staff will be viewed seriously
and disciplinary action will be initiated accordingly.
6. In case a Resident becomes sick, she should bring it to the notice of the Hostel
staff. Since the Hostel accommodation is on a sharing basis, if a Resident is
found to suffering from infectious/ contagious disease she will be asked to leave
the Hostel and go back to her home till recovery. Parents or guardians will be
informed suitably.

7. An authorized Official / Staff designated by the Hostel can enter and inspect any
room in the interest of safety and proper conduct of Residents. Entry by the
Official can be made at any time, whether the Residents are present or not and
without any prior notice.
8. Any Resident expelled on disciplinary grounds will forfeit the fees and the
deposit paid.
9. Our corridors must be kept neat at all times, the dirt swept out of the Residents’
room must not be left in the corridor, any occupant who violate this rule will
pay a fine of N15000 (or such other amount prescribed by the Committee) each
time.
10. Complaints/Suggestions if any, should be entered in the Suggestion/Complaint
Register.
11. The Hostel cleaning staff are not allowed into Resident’s rooms. They are not
allowed to clean Resident’s rooms. Their cleaning duties are restricted to the
communal areas of the Hostel. Residents should therefore not invite them into
their rooms.
12. Heat generating equipment, such as irons, boiling rings, electric kettles,
toasters, etc are not allowed in the room, there is provision for iron and ironing
board in the laundry.
13. Inventory check in and check out will be carried out at the beginning and at the
end of each semester

HOT WATER HOUR


Hot water facilities are installed at the Hostel and Residents are advised to be
prudent in usage, keeping in view the requirements of the other inmates of the
Hostels. Hot water be available in the morning. Occupants are encouraged take full
advantage of the hot water at this time.

TV WATCHING GUILDLINE
The residence TV will be on between the hours of 9pm and 11pm Mon to Fri and
6pm to 11pm on weekends.

LAUNDRY FACILITY
The Hostel has installed modern laundry facilities. Residents are required to follow
the process for laundry submission, payment and pick up. Once payment has been
made, a delivery date will be written on the receipt of payment. In addition, a
customized laundry service is also available on request by appointment and on
payment basis.

BUTTERY SERVICE
Our buttery is available for any of your daily needs, snacks, drinks etc.

DINING FACILITY/MEAL PLAN


The menu (Mondays to Saturdays) for our food service will be provided.
Meal Tickets are available for purchase.
MEAL TICKETS ARE VALID ONLY IN THE SEMESTER IN WHICH THEY ARE
PURCHASED. There shall be no refund for any unused ticket after THE semester IN
WHICH THEY ARE PURCHASED ends.
KITCHEN USAGE
• Our kitchens are to be kept clean after each usage always.
• Our Kitchens are equipped with electrical appliances such as microwave,
toaster, sandwich maker and blender.
• Pots and plates are to be washed immediately after usage, pots that cannot be
washed immediately are to be soaked and covered neatly in the sink and same
must be washed same day, if a pot is used in the night, same must be washed in
the morning before leaving the Hostel.
• If any pot is kept in the sink for more than 24hrs, it will be thrown into the
trashcan.
• You are to sign for collecting the kitchen or other communal area key and to
make sure the key is returned after using the kitchen or communal area. The
responsibility for the kitchen or communal area until you return the kitchen or
communal area key rests with you until and unless you return the key and sign
out accordingly. Where a Resident fails to return the kitchen or communal area
key, such Resident shall be responsible for the cost of replacing the key. If others
wish to join in the use of the kitchen or communal area, each person will be
required to sign in (time) for access and to sign out (time) on departure.
Notwithstanding, the responsibility for the facilities continues to rest on the
Licensee who signed for the keys until and unless she returns the key and signs
out accordingly
• No occupant can carry someone else’s belonging from the freezer, if you are
caught, you will be expelled from the Hostel without any refund.
• Kitchen shall be closed by 9pm daily
• Cleaning of the kitchen AFTER USAGE is very important and the rules must be
strictly adhered to, ANY defaulter will be fined for N15,000 (or such other
amount prescribed by the Committee) which you will be asked to pay or which
shall be deducted from your caution fee.

AIR CONDITIONING
All occupants must switch off the AC when leaving the room, no matter where you
are going to, likewise your window must be locked when your AC is on. Any erring
occupant after the 3rd warning will be fined for the sum of N15, 000 (or such other
amount prescribed by the Committee) for each default.
Air condition will be powered 7pm to 6am daily.

FREEZERS
In the interest of hygiene, refrigerators, FREEZERS ETC will be cleaned ON THE
COMMENCEMENT DATE OF EVERY PUBLIC HOLIDAY, BREAK IN THE ACADEMIC
SESSION (E.G EASTER, CHRISTMAS ETC) ETC. FOOD ITEMS LEFT IN THESE
AMENITIES WILL BE DISCARDED AS PART OF THE CLEANING PROCESS.

Where the Committee decides that personal fridges will be allowed into the Hostel,
the usage of personal fridges shall only be permitted where it has been tested and
certified by an independent electrical professional as appointed by the Committee.
The Licensee shall pay the fee prescribed from time to time for testing and
certification by the independent electrical profession as appointed by the
Committee. If personal fridges are allowed, Trezadel Hostel reserves the right to
determine where they will be kept.

CLOTH WASHING RULES


You are to wash your cloth in your room and spread neatly only on the designated
drying lines behind the building.

VISITORS
1. Subletting of rooms by registered residents is NOT allowed at all.
2. Non-residents are not allowed to spend the night/or cohabit with a resident
under any circumstances whatsoever.
3. Males are strictly forbidden from entering into, or co-habiting with residents in
the Hostel, any Resident found harbouring a male will be immediately expelled
from the Hostel without refund.
4. Visitors i.e. friends, course mates, school mates etc are restricted to the
common room area, they are not allowed into the resident room. All visitors
must leave the Hostel complex latest by 9pm.Visitors are not allowed to do any
cooking or even allowed in our kitchen.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING
Attending Fire Drill/Training Exercise is important for all residents, defaulters will
be required to pay for a repeat session of the training, failure to abide by this, you
will be denied entry into the Hostel.

SECURITY
1. Residents are advised to always lock their doors at all times for security reasons,
as the Hostel will NOT be responsible for lost or stolen items
2. Residents are strongly advised to keep all their valuables e.g. mobile phones,
laptop, watches, money etc IN A SECURED MANNER at all times as the Hostel
shall not be responsible for loss or damage of private properties.
3. Residents are required to return to the Hostel and sleep every night. Residents
who will be absent from the Hostel must notify the hall warden and sign the
register. Any Residents whose room-mate is absent without permission or
explanation for more than 24hrs should report to the HOSTEL Officer.
4. Each resident should be in their rooms by 10.30pm in the night and if there will
be any default, the HOSTEL OFFICER hall warden on duty should be notified
earlier.
5. Residents are ALWAYS required to sign in each time they come into the Hostel
and to sign out each time they go out of the Hostel at all time, irrespective of
where they are going. If they are going out of THE UNIVERSITY campus, this must
be indicated in the register.

BEHAVIOURAL & DISCIPLINE


1. Acceptable Form of behavior is expected from every resident, they should all
maintain discipline and decorum in the Hostel, there must be modesty in all
means
2. Smoking is not permitted in the room, common areas or within the HOSTEL
premises.
3. Where a Residents occupies a room with others, due care and consideration
should be given to the Room Mates and avoid deploying excessive electronic
sets that will cause discomfort and constitute a nuisance to others.
4. No kind of loud music or other disturbing noise can filter out from 10pm to
8am.Resident must not disturb one another either in studying, resting or having
fun. Whoever violate this rule will be dismissed from the Hostel without refund.
5. Residents are expected to comply with directives of the HOSTEL OFFICERS as
unruly behaviors and act of insubordination will NOT be tolerated.
6. Possession, distribution and consumption of alcoholic beverages, prohibited
drugs, chewable tobacco and any other chemical substance capable of
influencing behavioural change is strictly PROHIBITED in the rooms, compound
and HOSTEL premises AT ANY TIME.
7. Affixing anything to the wall, DOORS, MIRRORS AND OTHER FURNITURE AND
FITTINGS (eg putting stickers, cellotape, hooks etc)/ on the wall in the individual
rooms or anywhere in the Hostel is NOT ALLOWED.
8. Parties, social gathering in the Hostel are NOT permitted.
9. Fighting is prohibited within and outside the Hostel, as this act will cause
expulsion to whoever is found wanting without refund.
10.The Hostel management reserves the right to carry out spot checks on the Hostel
and rooms without prior notice to the residents.
11.Residents are personally responsible for keeping their rooms, kitchen (including
all kitchen appliances) clean and tidy at all times without being told.
12.Residents must ensure that all food ARE properly stored in the freezer with a
food bag and that all cooking equipment and crockery ARE washed and cleared
away immediately after use. COMPULSORY BAGGING OF FOOD IN FREEZERS
WITH DATE AND NAME.
13.Resident is required to report damage caused to the kitchen and other
communal areas inside and outside the Hostel by ANYONE. Resident will pay on
demand an equal share of the cost of repairing or replacing damage caused to
the kitchen and other communal areas inside and outside the Hostel per
resident where such damage or loss cannot be attributed or traced to a
particular individual.

FACILITY USAGE
1. Drying of clothes on windows, doors rail or burglary proof is not allowed.
2. Littering and indiscriminate disposal of waste in the corridor, compound or
communal areas is prohibited.
3. Used sanitary pads should always be wrapped tightly and properly disposed
inside the WASTE bins provided by the Hostel. Where damage occurs to the
water closet as a result of improper disposal of sanitary pads, the Residents
responsible will bear full cost of repairs.
4. Personal domestic appliances such as fridges, IF PERMITTED, brought into the
Hostel are to be submitted for testing immediately and at the beginning of the
academic session before they can be used in Trezadel. This will require a fee
which may be debited from your Caution Fee.,
5. Water taps, electrical switches eg Air Conditioning and any other electrical
appliances are to be turned off when not in use.
6. Pasting of posters, painting or writing on the wall, doors, mirrors and other
furniture and fittings or defacing the Hostel structure in any form is strictly
prohibited.
7. Vandalism is a very serious offence. Residents found guilty of committing such
an offence will bear the cost of restoration, may be expelled from the Hostel and
be reported to the University Authority for appropriate sanctioning.
8. Use of cooking facilities/equipment for commercial purposes is highly
prohibited. Anyone found doing such shall be expelled and prosecuted.
9. Where a Resident is required to sign for the key to enable access to a communal
facility or area, the responsibility for the facilities thereon rests with this
Resident until and unless she returns the key and signs out accordingly. If other
Residents wish to join in the use of the facility, each will be required to sign in
(time) for access and to sign out (time) on departure.
10.At check out, you are to restore your room to the state (especially cleanliness)
it was before you vacate the hostel. Where a Resident fails to return the room
to the same condition it was met, Trezadel will do so at a cost of N15, 000 (or
such other amount prescribed by the Committee) which may be deducted
from your Caution Fee.
11. As part of our contribution to the fight against climate change, in addition to
traditional sources of energy, the energy in use in Trezadel Hostel is Green energy,
Clean energy & Renewable energy (GCR). The capacity of the GCR dictates the
electrical connections, consequently the sockets in our communal arears are
available for plugging phones, laptops etc when GCR energy only is in use.

12. In the interest of hygiene, refrigerators, FREEZERS ETC will be cleaned ON


THE COMMENCEMENT DATE OF EVERY PUBLIC HOLIDAY, BREAK IN THE ACADEMIC
SESSION (E.G EASTER, CHRISTMAS ETC) ETC. FOOD ITEMS LEFT IN THESE AMENITIES
WILL BE DISCARDED AS PART OF THE CLEANING PROCESS.
13. In the interest of energy efficiency, Trezadel hostel reserves the right to make
changes to its energy supply source and electrical connections at any time during
the academic session.

WI-FI FACILITY
Free Wi-Fi facilities are provided and Residents can access their mails and other
academic information.
Generally, Hostel is treated as an extension of the University and the rules of the
Hostel are applicable to all the occupants. All instructions/notices displayed on the
Notice Boards of the Hostels will be deemed to have been served and read by the
Hostel Residents and any excuse of not being aware of these rules will not be
entertained. Residents are advised to apprise themselves regularly of the
information issued by the Hostel from time to time from the Notice Boards placed
in the Hostel.
