Sara:

Hi, good morning! We are from 8th grade. (Sara señala a sus compañeros mientras se
presentan).
Today we’re going to explain to you our project. Our project was to create two types of
compost. My partner Gabriela is going to tell you about liquid compost, and Alejandro will
explain the solid one.

Alejandro:

So, let’s start with solid compost.

Solid compost, like the "lasaña" method, is a way of breaking down organic matter in
layers. It imitates a natural process where we manually place different layers of organic
materials, like sticks, dry leaves, grass, and manure, in a specific order. This layering helps
create rich compost that can improve plant growth.

Gabriela:

And now, I’ll explain what liquid compost is.

Liquid compost, or biol, is a liquid fertilizer that helps regulate plant growth. It’s made
through anaerobic decomposition, which means it breaks down without oxygen. This
method uses animal and plant waste, and it creates a very effective natural fertilizer.

Sara:

Preparation for the liquid compost:

So, the first thing that we did to make this liquid compost was to put about 40 to 50 kilos of
cow excrement into a large container. Then, in another bowl with hot water, we mixed
molasses, yeast, and milk. Once everything was well mixed, we added it into the container
with the excrement. After that, we close the container with an hermetic cover and left it to
ferment for about 45 days. The result is a powerful liquid compost that can help plants
grow better and faster.
Alejandro (continúa con el proceso del compost sólido):

Preparation for the solid compost:

To prepare the solid compost, the first thing we did was dig a long hole in the ground.
Then, we built walls to hold the compost in place. After that, we started collecting the
materials we needed: sticks, dry leaves, grass, and excrement.

Gabriela (continúa con el proceso del compost sólido):

Once we had all the materials, we began layering them in the trench. First, we put down a
layer of sticks, then a layer of dry leaves, followed by a nest-like layer of grass with some
small residues in the center. After that, we added a layer of excrement. We repeated this
process until we had about nine layers, and finally, we covered everything with a layer of
soil.

Sara, Alejandro y Gabriela (beneficios del compost):

Sara: One of the main benefits of liquid compost is that it helps stimulate flowering and
fruit production in plants.
Alejandro: Solid compost is great because it adds nutrients and beneficial microorganisms
to the soil, which helps plants grow healthier and faster.
Gabriela: Both types of compost reduce the need for chemical fertilizers, benefiting the
environment by recycling organic materials.
