Assalam o Alaikum. I am writing this letter to inform you that shopkeepers of Rawalpindi are
selling unhygienic food in the area. Rawalpindi-Shopkeepers and bakery owners in various parts
of city are posing serious health hazards to the public by selling expired, unhygienic, and
substandard food items. The district government, civic bodies and Punjab Food Department are
not acting against the shopkeepers and bakery owners. Doke Gangal, Gullberg Green, Khana
pull, Shahpur, Gorakhpur, Jarahi, Kehkashan Colony, Rehman Markaz, Hill View, Munawar
Colony, Ali Town, Marer Hassan, Raja Bazar, Mubarak Lane, Khawaja Corporation, Defense
Road, Doke baraf Khanna chock, and Tench, are ideal places for openly selling unhygienic food
items, bakery products, milk, yogurt etc.
yesterday I bought a pizza from baraf Khanna chock Khyber bakery and returned home .as I
opened the box there was a fungus on the top of it. I lodged a complaint with district government
against the bakery owner but no action was taken so far. Another citizen, Ayesha, resident of
Bakra Mandi, said unhygienic food items are also being sold out in the area by the shopkeepers,
causing serious health hazards to the locals. She said despite several complaints, district health
authorities are not carrying out raids in the locality. Many others told this correspondent that
unhygienic milk and yogurt are being sold at Adiala Road and in many other localities.
A senior officer of Punjab Food Authority, when contacted, said that raids are being carried out
against the accused on public complaints. He said raid would also be carried out on the bakery
involved in selling expired pizza. I request you to mention my complaint and please give us a
positive result.
