JAMMU AND KASHMIR
• It is famously known as ‘Paradise on earth’, It is also known as
‘Switzerland of India’ or ‘Heaven of Earth’.
• It is also famous for its variety of shawls, dry fruits, traditional jewelry, and
carpets.
• It is a famous tourist place destination for its Alpine mountains, fresh clear
water, round valleys, pristine lakes, landscape and its science beauty.
• Every square inch of Kashmir is filled with endless charm which is making
it the best tourist place of earth.
SIZE AND LOCATION
• Jammu and Kashmir is situated in north west of
India in the Himalayan Region. Total area of Jammu
& Kashmir is 2,22,236 km² including 2,20,990.10
km² rural area and 1,245.90 km² urban area.
• It shares its International land boundary with many
countries. To north and east it shares its land
boundary with China. To northwest it shares its land
boundary with Afghanistan. To the west by Pakistan
and south by India.

CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
• Kashmir valley enjoys a more moderate climate,
but weather conditions are unpredictable. The
temperature ranges between 20 °C-- 35 °C
during the summer months. The diurnal
temperature range varies between -9°C-- 20°C in
the winter.
• It has a temperate climate .Winter from
November to March with moderate and heavy
snowfall and summer from mid March to June. It
has a pleasant weather during April to June.
FOOD AND CULTURE
Kashmir has some mouth-watering cuisine in
both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The
popular dishes of meat are Kashmiri Kebab,
Rogan Josh, Yakhni, Pasanda, Syun Alu and Methi
Keema. Kahva, the traditional green tea with
almonds and spices is generally consumed
during winters. Other popular dishes of the
region are Kashmiri Pulao, Karam Sag, Dum
Aloo, and Phirni. Rice is their staple food and
has been so since ancient times.
FESTIVALS AND OBSERVANCES
• A large number of festivals are celebrated by Kashmiri people with
full joy and enthusiasm. Some of the popular festivals are Baishakhi,
Lohri, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hemis festival, Tulip Festival, Shikara Festival, Gurez
Festival, Sindu Darshan and Domoche. Traditional dance,
participation in painting, multi-cuisine and shops of handicrafts are
an integral part of these festivals. Numerous fairs like Bahu Mela,
Jhiri Mela and Craft Mela are also organized on some auspicious
days where Kashmiri Culture is highlighted by those people.
TEXTILES AND HANDICRAFTS
• The textile tradition in Kashmir has a glorious
history of world renowned tapestry that is
popular among many. May it be the Kani
shawls or the Amlikar needle work, even
today the hand-woven textile products are a
speciality of the many Kashmiri skilled
weavers. Kashmir Shawls it is said "Of all
Indian textiles none excels in beauty, colour,
texture and design as the famous Kashmir
