We looked long and curiously at each other, the silence filled with the noisy whistling of the wind
and the crashing on the waves on the sand. She was a peculiar kind of creature, something
completely unfamiliar to me; I expected if I were ever to attempt to describe her to some scientist or
scholar, they would only laugh disbelievingly and send me away.
Her skin was pale and glassy; it held a bluish tint that was only further illuminated by the moonlight
shining over the rushing sea. She wore no garment, and her skin was covered in intricate scaling of
a deep blue. She had long, dark hair that cascaded down her back; it gleamed in the moonlight. She
had no visible legs, instead I noticed a long scaled tail wrapped around her.
She was magnificent. I suddenly knew with an incredible urgency that I needed to see her up
close. I want to speak to her, to touch her.
I stumbled through the rough waves, the sharp chill of the water going unnoticed. I reached the
weathered rocks, clutching onto them to steady myself. I felt sharp needles of pain, and looking
down at my hands I realized I had cut myself on the jagged rocks. I quickly discarded the thought.

pleasant sort of whistle; it reminded me of ringing bells and birdsong. It entranced me completely,
and I wondered how I had come to be so lucky; what deity had favored me so to allow me the joy of
being in the presence of this strange and brilliant creature.
Finally, I came close enough to touch her. “Hello,” I whispered, the sound barely audible of the
rushing of the water. Her response, a clicking chirp, startled a breathless giggle from me. Her lips
twisted into what could be described as a smile; It pleased me to see.
Slowly, she reached out a webbed hand. Her long fingers pressed against my chest, and for a
moment I struggled to breathe; it was completely inconceivable, that I has been bestowed this gift,
that this almost otherworldly being would
