11 . MASTER PLAN PROPOSALS :

The Master Plan proposals are as follows:

1. Road widening
2. Water treatment plants

11.1 ROAD WIDENING PROPOSAL:

The road widening proposals are under progress in circle-VII covering the roads from
Mehdipatnam to Noble Talkies , Ayodhya Junction to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital ,
Lakdikapul Cross Road to Bazarghat Cross Road, Bazarghat Cross Road to Nampally and
Golf Court entrance to Banjari Darwaza, Golconda. The following table shows the
description of the roads along with the existing road width and the proposed road widths.

11.2 WATER TREATMENT PLANT:

There is only one exsisting water treament plant at asifnagar.

Therefore government has proposed two more water treatment plants at Shaikpet Asif nagar
and Allabanda .

The capacities of water treatment plants are as follows:

12 . PROPOSALS :

12.1 PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

12.1.1Storm-Water Drain Widening and Removal of Encroachments

Problems:

 Heavy rain leads to choking of the Nala and flooding


 Originally the Nala width was 20 feet but over the years it
has narrowed down to 10 feet and at some places it is even
narrower.
 Encroachments on the nala causing overflowing
 As per the Cantonment Board Act all nalas should be open.
But in gross violation of the rules the nala is covered and
the space is being used for parking in Vijayangar colony,
thus no regular cleaning.

Proposals:

 Widening of the nalas up to 20’ ensure free flow of storm


water and prevention from overflowing during rainy
seasons
 Restoration of the nala removal of the covered nalas in the vijay nagar colony as per
Cantonment Board Act
 Cleaning maintenance and repair of all the open and closed nalas
 Providing mesh along the retaining wall of the nala
 Removal of encroachments by the people along nalas to ensure free flow of storm
water

12.2 PARKING
A multi-storeyed parking proposal for sabzimandi area has been proposed at Guddimalkapur.

12.3 TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION

12.1.2 Junction Improvement for Asif Nagar Junction-


PROBLEMS

• No proper parking for auto

• No foot ways for pedestrians

• Traffic lights are out of service

• Informal shops i.e. the fruits vendors can be seen in the road

• One way lane is used as a 2way lane

12.1.3 Junction Improvement for Nanal Nagar Junction-


PROBLEMS

• The existing roads at the nanal nagar junction were not uniform i.e the road width of
the road on side was considerably smaller than the other.

• For ex the width of the raod leading to retibowli , on one point measure 15.0M
whereas the opposite side of it measures just 10.5M.

• The road widths have been made uniform

• The bottle neck at the free left turn near morine bakery have been redesigned .

• The landscaping on the dividers was initially missing which now have been provided.

• Pedestrian crossing have been provided

• Footpaths of 1.8m width are given on both the sides which initially coudnt be used
due to its bad maintenance.

DEVELOPMENT OF SHANTAN CHERUVU AS A RECREATIONAL SPOT:

• Shantan Cheruvu is a sprawling tank with a water spread area of 30 acres, which is a
recharge point of the local residential area

• It is surrounded by Akbar Pura , Tolichowki & Golconda.

CURRENT PROBLEMS OF SHANTAN CHERUVU:

• Reduced to cesspool due to dumping of domestic sewage and unregulated dumping of


solid wastes.

• Deterioration of lake water quality

• Sedimentation and Shrinkage

• Loss of aesthetic value

• Affecting the ground water source

• Water logging in the residential area

 Proper fencing should be done to avoid the dumping of solid waste in the lake.

 Lake beautification in terms of Park or greeenscape, pedestrian walkways and seating


arrangements should be done .

 Direct involvement of public by constituting an association for welfare and


maintenance of park

 Allow private organization to run the facilities to generate revenue to meet


operation & maintenance costs

12.1.5 OTHER PROPOSED RECREATIONAL SPOT

PROPOSAL

 On the government lands of

KRANTI NAGAR, KANTI NAGAR &
VIJAYNAGAR , amenities like
recreational club, sports club , parks and
play ground for children are proposed.

 As these areas lack green spaces and


recreational facilities the given proposal
can be feasible and will also serve
people from its surrounding areas also.

12.1.6 PROPOSAL FOR FIRE STATION ON GOVT.OPEN LANDS

When compared with UDPFI guidelines it is seen that there is deficit of 3 fire stations in the
circle –VII.

12.1.7 PROPOSAL FOR PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOLS:

When compared with UDPFI guidelines it is seen that there is deficit of 14 pre – primary
schools in the circle –VII

12.5 SLUM UP GRADATION PROPOSALS

Approach:

Some approaches for the slum up-gradation are:

 Security of land tenure through issue of ownership rights which requires


new legislations in the area of urban land use.
 Provision of adequate physical infrastructure like water supply, sanitation, sewerage,
drainage, roads and electricity.
 Provision of adequate health infrastructure through primary health centers.
 Provision of appropriate education facilities through primary schools.
 Provision of livelihood centers / skill improvement programs for economic betterment

SCOPE

Housing: redevelopment of the slum by providing upgraded housing facilities will be taken.
Each if the family will be provided with a 40 sqm area housing which will consist of a living
area, a kitchen and a toilet.

Roads: Main and inner roads both will be taken under the scope of the plan.

Water supply: The problems related to water supply is focused upon. Provision of public
taps and its maintenance is given due consideration.

Sewerage: Issues related to provision of closed or open drains whichever possible and its
proper disposal system is to be taken.

Sanitation: Sanitation has been a neglected sector. It is given less priority by ULBs,
development authorities, private agencies, city managers and citizens. To solve this problem
the toilets will be provided on the housing itself.

Social infrastructure: the social infrastructure i.e. school, health facilities, parks for children
also are lacking sector in the area. To solve this problems school, health post and a park will
be provided the area.

Scope Of Plan

Proposals :

Drawing from the problem identification and need analysis, On the basis of the requirements
and demand of the slum dwellers the following proposals are proposed in the plan.

Through construction of improved housing .

(a) Considerations

(b) Proposal
• Proposed housing with each dwelling unit of 35sq.m area.

• Proper road connection to all dwelling units, park and school with 4m internal road
and 5 m external road.

• Water supply through the municipal connection with 5 public taps.

• School and health post are provided near park so that it can be used as the playground
for children as well as it is proposed in the center so that it acts as a common
recreational area for the dwellers.

(c) Benefits

2. Roads
Through construction of improved roads including main and internal in the slum, it will be
easier for slum residents to access nearby areas and other services on a regular basis.

(b) Considerations

 The roads will be provided according to the existing space.


 If required then the illegal encroached land by the slum dwellers can be
covered for the road construction.
 The sufficient width of road will be provided.
 It will be constructed by taking care drainage pattern of the area.

(b) Proposal
 In this plan two kinds of roads are proposed. One is ‘main road’ and another is
‘internal road’.
 Maximum 9 meters width of road has been proposed where as, 4.5 meters is the
minimum width of the road proposed
 CC road is proposed which will be constructed under two phases.

(c) Benefits

 The needs of the residents would be served.


 Encroachments were proposed to be removed as and when road width is needed to be
increased. This will help to maintain the character of the area. Construction of roads
will reduce dust, dirt and air pollution as well as soil erosion.
 The roads provide aesthetic benefits to the area and the city as a whole.

. Water Supply:

Water is a vital basic need used for multiple purposes such as drinking, food, sanitation, etc.
The provision of water solves lot of problems of the slum.

(a) Considerations
 There should be efficient and effective water distribution facility, creating safe,
potable and reliable supply of water.
 Easily accessible to users.
 Public tap should be located near as many houses as possible

 The public tap should be at the ratio of one (1) tap for every twenty (20) families.
 The taps should be within the 100 meters distance
 At least 100 lpcd should be assured to the residents.
 Time of water supply depends upon the standard water requirement i.e. 100 lpcd.
 A tap should consist of a platform with the drainage facility.
 The location of the water taps are given according to the public consultation and by
considering.

(b) Proposal
 The water pipe will be laid down.
 4-5 numbers of public taps will be provided.
 The location of the water taps are according to the public consultation
 The maintenance of the public taps etc will be the responsibility of the local
community

(c) Benefits
 The requirement of the water will be fulfilled by implementing these proposals as
well as the extra time and energy consumed in this activity will be reduced which
could be used for other productive activities.
 Improving water conditions within the slum will improve resident’s ability to
maintain good health.
 Incidence of water borne diseases is expected to minimize.

4. Drainage:

For the safe environment and health of the residents in the area, a drainage system is
proposed under this plan. The proposal is given below with the considerations and benefits.

(a) Considerations
 To provide efficient and effective sewerage collection to achieve public health
protection, a pleasant environment and water quality protection.
 To minimize the generation of odours.
 The width and length of drains should be provided by taking care of the requirement
of area.

(b) Proposal
 Open drains along the road will be provided.
 The drains will be of different width and depth. They are: 60 cm in depth and 45 cm
in width in the internal drains;
 The main drains will vary from 75-80 cm in depth and 55-60 cm in width;
 The drains will be RCC made and in ‘U’ shape.
 The drains of slum will be connected to the main drain of the area that will be
eventually drained out in the nearby nala.
 The responsibility of maintenance should be of committee consisting of residents of
Guffa Mandir

(c) Benefits
 It will not only solve the problems of water logging but also save the slum dwellers
from many dangerous diseases.
 Drainage facility will reduce the incidence of standing water and resulting diseases.
 It will also increase the life of roads and infrastructure by reducing rainwater
intrusion that damages roads, pipes and other structures.

5. Garbage Disposal:

(a) Considerations

 The environment of the area should be clean.


 The waste disposal should be properly managed.

(c) Proposal
 Provision of separate community bins for the storage of dry and wet waste in
the slum where people can throw waste every day.
 The Municipality will transport the waste from the bins up to the composting
or disposal sites every day.

(c) Benefits
 Aesthetics of the area will also improve due to this effort.
 It will improve the environment which reduces the health problems and
indirectly improvement in garbage disposal strong the financial condition of
residents.

6. School:

There is no school in the area and so for education purpose it should be proposed in the area.

(a) Considerations
 Accessibility should be taken care.
 It should be located at walkable distance.

(b) Proposal
 One primary will be provided in the vicinity of slum to serve the educational needs of
the children in vacant plots.

(c) Benefits
 School will improve the educational status of the children population.
 It will be helpful for the children to get better employment in future.

7. Health post:

There is no health post in the area and so for health facilities it should be proposed in the
area.

(a) Considerations
 Accessibility should be taken care.
 It should be located at walkable distance.
 Basic health facilities should be provided.

(b) Proposal
 One health post will be provided in the vicinity of slum to serve the health facility
needs of the population of the area.

(c) Benefits
 It will improve the health condition of the population.
 It will be helpful in reduction of infant mortality rate.

8. Parks:

There is no park or open space in the area and so for recreational purpose it should be
proposed in the area.

(a) Considerations
 Accessibility should be taken care.
 It should be located where it can be useful to more number of people.

(b) Proposal
 One park will be provided in the vicinity of slum to serve the recreational needs of
population in vacant plots.
 Residents will do the maintenance of the park.

(c) Benefits
 Park will improve the aesthetics of the area and provide a recreational place to slum.
 It will provide a place to every age group where they can enjoy.
 It will be helpful in the growth of the children.

12.6 Heritage Conservation


Heritage - those places or things that are significant because of their links to the past. Local
landmarks , which contribute to the image and identity of the region. May be the work of
master craftsmen or may be models of proportion and ornamentation or designed to suit a
particular climate. Cultural Heritage is so often more noticeable due to its decades of neglect
than for the reasons it should be cherished.

Toli Masjid An Introduction

• Toli Masjid (1671 AD) also known as Damri Masjid

• loacated in Karwan, Hyderabad

• 2 km from the Golconda fort on the way to Charminar

• This mosque is intact awarded and a declared heritage site by archeological survey of
India

• It comes under the grade-2 category of heritage structure, which comprises of


buildings and precincts of regional or local importance possessing special
architectural or aesthetic merit or cultural or historic significance

Present Condition and Steps To Be Taken

• the land around the Toli Masjid had been encroached by the local residents under
political influence.

• The southern side of the mosque in encroached by residential building and in the
northern side is a political party office building which is working for the conservation
of the mosque

• due to pollution and lack of maintenance the mosque minarets are losing its carved
beauty.

Steps To Be Taken For Conservation

• According to by laws for grade-2 heritage intelligent conservation.

• The development in areas surrounding shall be regulated and controlled ensuring that
it does not mar the grandeur of, or view from Heritage

• Strict action against the encroached by the local residents

• High compound walls against the heritage site bodies to discourage encroachment

• Local communities or individuals will be entrusted with responsibilities for


conservation preservation and maintenance of the mosque.
