The Ton-Tel portable weighbridge has been built to last in a tough
environment. Vehicles can now be weighed precisely using Griffith
Elder digital electronic technology, without compromise on the
rugged build strength which makes these weighbridges suitable for
the heaviest usage.
The Ton-Tel portable weighbridge is made so that it can easily and
quickly be re-located from one site to another. The sections are
dropped onto weigh beams and locked into position using the
Griffith Elder Quick-Lock system. All cables are plug-in for quick
fit. The weighbridge is Factory calibrated.
The strength of the Ton-Tel is in the heavy duty welded steel
Griffith Elder and Company Ltd structure. High quality steel beams form the superstructure with a
1 Oaklands Park surface deck finished in steel chequer plate to provide a high
Bury St Edmunds strength non-skid platform of optimum rigidity. There are no
Suffolk

wearing parts and all the electronics are sealed against the
United Kingdom environment to ensure a long and trouble free life.

Weigh Beams
Each weighbridge has a number of weigh beams which actually
detect the weight on the platform. Built into each beam are two
high precision stainless steel load cells which are sealed with
welded caps to ISO standard IP68. The robust design ensures a
long working life and is maintenance free. The high reliability of
the loadcells means a lower total cost of ownership and we are
able to offer long warranty.
Load cells
All load cells are pre-calibrated in the factory and do not need
calibration adjustments during commissioning of the weighbridge.
Loadcells are 20,000 kg capacity each. This allows a choice of
capacities from 40 tonnes up to 120 tonnes capacity weighbridge.
Choice of Models
There is a wide choice of weighbridge models. The lengths can be
from 6 metres up to 30 metres, with widths of 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0
metres available. All platforms are 340 mm high from the ground.
The weighbridge is fabricated in sections so that it is capable of
being portable. All parts can be lifted with a forklift truck for ease
of handling on site. The surface must be reasonably level for the
weighbridge to retain its very high accuracy. The beams are
placed on the ground first and then the sections are dropped in
place onto the beams. They are held in position with strong Quick
Locks. Typical assembly time takes less than two hours.

Installation
The Ton-Tel portable weighbridge has been designed to be
mounted above the ground with ramps at each end. Above ground
installation is simple and eliminates the need to construct a pit and
a drain. Ramps are delivered with the weighbridge in steel as part
of the construction. No special foundations are required, though
the ground should be solid and where there is no concrete,
spreader plates will be needed under the load cell positions.
Normal installation on a flat surface takes only one to two hours,
depending on which model is selected, and how many sections
need to be put into place.
Containerised for transport
The lock together design of the Ton-Tel enables it to be completely
packed into a 40 foot container for shipment. The weighbridge is
packed at our factory which ensures that everything will be ready
when it arrives on site.. This reduces the cost of shipment and
ensures that none of the parts get lost on voyage. Every size of
weighbridge up to our 21 metres long model fit into one container.
Simple construction on site
The Portable weighbridge is just that. Only a forklift or small crane
is needed to place the components in position and lock them
together. Each section is easily lifted with a standard fork truck.
Once the weighbridge is assembled plug in the cables and switch
on. Full instructions are provided.
Choice of Recording Equipment
The Ton-Tel weighbridge can be connected to a simple robust
Griffith Elder and Company Ltd portable indicator with tally printer which has the advantage of
1 Oaklands Park simplicity and ease. A USB memory stick records every ticket so

computer can be added. The advantage is that all weights are

Ton-Tel™ Truck Scale
Options
Large Display
A large red LED display (scoreboard) with 120 mm high digits is
available so that the truck drivers can see at a glance what their
weight is. The display has high visibility even in the brightest sun
light.
Kiosk
A weighbridge kiosk can be provided to house the electronic
indicator and printer equipment. Usually this will have appropriate
windows so that an operator can see the whole weighbridge from
the kiosk.
Steel Ramps
Made to suit the system these ramps are both robust and easy to
install. Where a weighbridge is being put onto existing concrete
without new foundations the steel ramps are a useful way of
completing the weighbridge and make moving to a new site a very
quick and easy task.
Traffic Lights
A red cross shows the vehicle when to stop and a green arrow
shows a driver when to move onto and leave the weighbridge.
Traffic lights can be automatically controlled from computer
software or can be manned by an operator for ease of traffic
management. They are often used in conjunction with the
automatic identification systems for unmanned weighbridges.
Automatic Identification
Vehicles and drivers can have their own transponder tags so that
they are immediately identified as they go onto the weighbridge.
This is useful if the same trucks are returning time after time.
Griffith Elder and Company Ltd Modern tags are electronic and can be in the form of credit cards
1 Oaklands Park or key fobs which are identified when they come into proximity of a
Bury St Edmunds
reader. The distance a tag can be read is usually in the region of 4
Suffolk

metres, so the driver can put a tag in the window and be picked up
United Kingdom by the reader.

Winchester Recording System
For Portable Computer Records
When the computer is used outside we provide the whole
package in a waterproof portable carry case. The case measures
1.2 metres long by 0.5 metres wide and holds the indicator,
computer and printer in one neat and ready to use package.
This is known as the Winchester recording System and it runs
from 12 volts DC, suitable to be plugged into a vehicle or operated
from a solar panel.
Connection to the weighbridge is by Quick Lock connectors which
just snap together so that the whole system can be used out of
doors if necessary.
If the internet is available the data from the laptop can be sent
back to a Central Database in the same way that a desktop
system operates. Alternatively the Winchester Recording System
can be unplugged from the weighbridge and taken to an office
where connectivity to the internet is available, and from there all
the completed tickets can be sent to the Central Database.
A low voltage printer is incorporated in the case so that tickets can
be printed out at the weighbridge station.

Ton-Tel™ Software
management of vehicle movements
The Ton-Tel™ Weighbridge Computer Software is a powerful yet
easy to use system for recording and analysing all weighbridge
operations. There are two very different software designs, one for
management of vehicles in commercial businesses and another for
law enforcement which is used for recording of vehicles on the
highways, usually associated with over-loading.
Transport Management
The transport management programme monitors goods in and out
and can be used to monitor stock levels and record all vehicle
movements. The Ton-Tel™ software can be customised to suit
individual customer requirements. A number of different ticket options
are available, and there are user definable note headings for
additional information.
Language Options
The Ton-Tel software is available in English, French, Chinese, Arabic,
Russian and Farsi. The language can be swapped from one to
another in use, so that tickets may be in more than one language.
Date and time are taken from the computer which is running the
software and so it will show in the appropriate format for the locality.
Reports
The Ton-Tel™ software system contains a powerful reporting facility.
The operator selects the parameters for the report, and the
information to be shown. A typical report might be of all the
weighments which went to a particular customer between two dates
or all the movements over the weighbridge for the last week.
Griffith Elder and Company Ltd
1 Oaklands Park Information can easily be exported from the Ton-Tel™ programme to
Bury St Edmunds other programmes for further data analysis. It is compatible with all
Suffolk spreadsheets. Networking is also possible so that real time weighing
IP33 2RW information can be seen at another location.
United Kingdom
All Weighing operations are automatically recorded on the computer
+44 1284 719619 and tickets can be printed off on the computer’s printer.
