While there are several types of verbs, this Self
learning Kit will focus on action words. Action words tell
you what the subject of a sentence is doing. Words like
dance, climb, swing, slide, told, and answer are action
words.
This Self Learning Kit is to be accomplished by you
with the help of your parent or guardian. Read, analyze
and understand carefully its contents. Answer the
exercises/ activities to the best of your ability.
Keep this Self Learning Kit neat and clean. It is
expected that you will take extra care for it. Do not
answer the exercises/ activities in here. Use your
notebook in answering them.
At the end of the lesson, you are
expected to:
1. recognize common action words in
retelling, conversation, etc.;
2. identify action word used in
sentences and in stories; and
3. retell action words which were
emphasized in the pictures.

Words that tell actions are called action
words or verbs. They talk about what
we do.

Hide and Seek
Marla, Jen, Kevin, Richard, and KC play Hide and
Seek in the park. Jen covers her eyes and counts to
thirty. The other children hide in different places. Marla
goes behind a tree. Kevin and KC hide behind a bench.
Richard runs to the slide and hides behind it. Jen
opens her eyes and walks around. She spots Richard.
“Tag, you’re it!” she tells him.
