Active community participation
Community participation :- refers to the activities made by citizen to bring political and social
changes

It concerns about both the right and obligations of citizen

Essence

 To solve the given problems of society .


 To create informed , thinking & involved citizens
 For nation building & development.

Levels of community participation

1. Micro ( low level ) participation


-Citizen simply use a service
2. Meso ( Medium) level participation
-Peoples contribute their skills , money & knowledge
3. Macro (higher level ) – full participations of the public affairs .
- i.e identify their own problems & involve themselves in marking decision evaluation .

Forms of participation

1. Political participation : defined as those actions of citizens by which they try to


influence support government practices .
Direct involvement of citizen in political issues & instiution.
It includes being a member of political party, commenting on its program , contacting public
officials (Representatives) , etc
2. Social Participation
 The direct involvement of the public in social affairs & the promotion of the
common good
 To improve the living conditions ,health , education
 Fulfilling of social responsibility

Civic Societies

They are voluntary organization , religious organization professional associations & other
social & Economic relationship that are not part of government institution

Types

 Professional associations
 Women group
 charity group ,
 Environmental protection
 youth associations
Roles : addressing basic needs of a society

 Contributing for the common good .


 Prevent and control misuse of resources .

 Enforcing law and order and promoting good governance .


 Provide opportunities for individuals to associate for social , cultural ,religious &
economic purposes.

N.B To improve the quality of life for the community .

Democratic Country : civic societies serve for the people

Undemocratic : Serve to the Government
