ABSTRACT
Portable safety double stand is a device that is used widely in automotive industry. This
device is used to secure the life of a person working under the vehicle In case the jack
fails. The jack is the main component that is used to raise the vehicle to the required
point. The portable safety double stand is easier to operate than other devices which
have improvised in the past such as power operated safety double stand. These devices
therefore required little skills and knowledge compared to other current devices used to
raise the vehicle by mechanics and technicians. This is why I came up with this project a
portable safety double stand. This device will be more helpful to mechanics and
technicians in the workshop. This device will create more working space under a vehicle.
Another quality of this device is that, its maintenance cost is very cheap than any other
existing devices in the market. Portable safety double stand is an environmental
friendly. To make this device the materials needed are not much expensive. The
materials needed are ; angle iron15x8=1200mm,pipe 60,50 diameter, angle metal
200x2=400mm, iron plate 150x150x150x 2=45000mm,chain and two nails. The
procedure entails fabrication Take the two measured iron plates and place them on the
surface then take two pieces of pipe 60diameter and mount them on each iron plate.
Then join those using supports of an angle line measured 150mm to each.
On another surface place 900mm of iron metal and take two pieces of metal pipe of
50diameter And mount them on both sides of the iron metal. Then insert it on
60diameter stands. Using drilling machine make holes on both sides of the stands
and weld the chains together with the
nails to act as locks .Portable safety double stand is easier to construct .The time needed to
fabricate this project is approximately Three hours and amount needed to fabricate this
device is Sh 3000.The main objective of this device is to reduce the accident and injury
when the jack fails.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Automotive industry has grown rapidly over the years, there are more workshops due to
increased number of vehicles involved in maintenance therefore there is a need to design and
fabricate a portable safety double stand. It will be used to raise the vehicle for good working
space under the vehicle, it also secure the life of a person working under it .In this casethe jack is
the main components to raise the vehicle at a required point.
1.1 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The technique that was used before the introduction of a portable safety double standwas
by use of jack and logs which has closed injury and loss of life to the mechanics in the
workshop.
1.2 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The main purpose of the project is to minimize the injury and loss of life In case the jack has
failed.
1.3 PROBLEM STATEMENT
The problem I encountered during the process of making this project are; High cost of the
materials such as metal rod and steel metals. Sometimes there is power blackout in the
institute area which hinders the process of working. There is also a scarcity of resources
which are meant to make the project complete such as welding machine, grinder and welding
rods. When one uses a welding machine you will encountered an eye problem in the night
whichaffect me. During cutting of metal rod it was tiresome also during drilling holes on the
pipe it was also difficult because it forces me to use hand drilling machine to drill the holes.

1.4 OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The main objective of this project is to increase the efficiency and productivity. It will
also prevent damages and injuries when the jack has failed accidentally.
CHAPTER TWO
2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW
The portable safety double stand will be preferred due to continuous reliability and
alsothe minimum cost of production.
The project is revolutionary because it solves the problem of jacking and supporting it in
the tight spot. It allows jacking and supporting using jack designed for vehicles. It is easy
to set up in a few minutes and it is safer for the vehicle and the operator. It can also be
used with most floor jacks, safe jack makes common jacks uncommonly safe always use
caution when jacking the vehicle.

3.0 METHODOLOGY
The component parts of the machine was designed using various ideas. The design results was

used to select materials for different components. In fabricating the machine steel was used as
the rigid, high strength and falls within the required specifications

Procedure of making
Take two measured iron plate and place them on the surface, then take two equal pieces of
60 diameter pipe and mount them on each iron plate. Then joined those using supports of
an angle line measured 100mm to each .On another surface place 900mm of iron metal
and take two pieces of diameter 50 pipes and mount on both sides of the metal. Then
insert it on 60 diameter pipe. Using a drilling machine drill holes on both sides of the stands
and weld the chains on both sides together with the nails to act as locks.

4.0 RECOMMENDATION
The next thing is to test a safety double stand. The stand should hold the vehicle more comfort
The owner to come up with this ideas which can improve project Machine to facilitate good
service offered to the user, hence reduce doubt.
4.1 CONCLUSION
The project designer’s hope and beliefs that the entire automotive industry will welcome
this Idea as there are many advantages of using this device. It occupies less space, not
much heavyin weight and can be adjusted and also slide according to the size of the

vehicle. One person is enough to operate it .It also reduces manpower, occurrence accident.
