Aries Ministry
Monthly Protection of the Community
One of the blessings of the warrior is protection of self and protection of the community. The magick of
Aries in the Temple of Witchcraft is that of the Warrior, the ability to protect, defend, and take
necessary action. We see the warrior as the spiritual warrior, with not just physical prowess, but martial
discipline that is found many of the world’s spiritual traditions. The Witch or Sorcerer is a warrior as
well as artist, consistently challenging themselves to do better and be better. As part of the community
work of the Aries Ministry, we offer protection to the Temple itself, and the members of the Temple, on
physical and spiritual levels. Open and public practitioners can attract their share of personal dangers
from the misinformed general public and jealous practitioners, and the work itself can attract unwanted
spirits and entities from time to time. Perform this ritual when the Moon is in the sign of Aries. When
waxing, it confers an increase of protective energies, and when waning, to remove harmful factors from
the path.
Introduction to Heyan the Warrior
Protective Spirit of the Temple of Witchcraft
Within the tradition of the Temple of Witchcraft, there are twelve spirits who each are associated with
one of the zodiac signs and an archetype associated with that sign. Heyan is the Warrior, associated
with protection and the training of the spiritual warrior. Heyan often appears like a warrior-king, not
unlike the Emperor card of the tarot, but a Witchcraft warrior, with the four elemental weapons with
him – his feet upon the stone of sovereignty, a sword by his side, a spear/rod in his hand, and a cup in
the other, and upon his head the twelve pointed crown in gold. The cup can be substituted by a helmut
and the stone by a warrior’s shield. Sometimes he appears with a reddish-orange skin and manifests
like a traditional Hindu deity in bright colors rather than human flesh tones, with many arms, and many
different tools and “weapons.” His main tool though is either a spear or sword.
In the thirteen powers of the Witch, his power is that of power itself, “To use the power to bless friends
and curse enemies.” In the Goals of the Witch, as the first sign, Heyan starts us with the most basic of
the goals espoused by the Mystery School, “Know yourself.” His stones are ruby, garnet, and diamond.
Heyan is a particularly powerful spirit when called upon by a member of the Temple for physical or
spiritual protection. You can recite his name three times to call upon him, or carve his sigil, the Aries
Ministry Sigil, into a red or black candle for protection, or add it on parchment to a charm.
Make sure you thank Heyan for any aid offered in your protection by thanking him in meditation or
making appropriate offerings such as red wine, red sandalwood, iron powder, and dragon’s blood.
Archangel Michael
While the teachings embrace all of the angels and archangels, three primary archangels are part of the
initial Temple of Witchcraft cooperative of spirits. They are Michael, Tzadkiel, and Uriel. Michael,
whose name is usually translated as “He who is like God” is considered the archangel most devoted to
humanity and the Earth, and his lore has changed over the centuries from guide upon death and healer
to warrior and protector, and patron to police, military, and emergency services. Depicted as the
archangel of elemental fire and the summer, as well as the archangel of the Sun (and some say
Mercury), we call upon him for his protective warrior aspects in this work.

Evocation of the Gods

I call to the Two Who Move As One in the Love of the Great Spirit
I call to the Goddess, She who is the Weaver and the Web of All Things.
I call to the God, He who is the Singer and the Song of All Creation
I call to the Divine Child of Promise, found in the heart of all things.

Evocation of Heyan
Hold or gaze upon the Sigil of Heyan, of the Aries Ministry or hold the wand as you call upon Heyan.
I call to Heyan, Heyan, Heyan, Warrior of Protection.
Show me the ways of power.
Help me with the power to bless and protect.
I call to the Spirits of the Temple.
I call upon the Archangel Michael, Guardian of Fire and the Sun
Lend your blessing and protection.
I call upon Towathan, Winged and Horned Serpent Spirit of the Temple
May you guide me in this work.

Protection
Cast a simple spell of protection for you and for the Temple community, under the guidance of Heyan.
Take a red candle, and either carve Heyan’s symbol into it or place a paper with Heyan’s symbol drawn
on it beneath the candle holder. Charge the candle for protection. Light the candle.
Place the Temple Sigil on a piece of paper before the candle.
Sprinkle the protection powder, even if it is simply salt, to form a clockwise ring around the candle and
Temple sigil, creating a ring of spiritual protection, helping to fuel the protection magick and wards of
the Temple for its membership, events, and properties.
In the name of Heyan and the Spirits of the Temple of Witchcraft
I cast this circle of protection
May there be protection filtering out all harmful energies
And deterring all harmful beings
from the Temple Community
For the highest good
Harming None.
So mote it be.
Let the candle burn. When the burning is complete, or if necessary, snuff and relight until the candle
spell is complete, sweep up the powder, and cast it away, into the earth, down a drain or any other
method that is appropriate. Its virtue has been added to the protection magick of the Temple and the
powder itself shall take any absorbed harmful energies away with it.
Silent Reflection
Take a moment to reflect upon the goal of Heyan, “know thyself.” Listen and tune into your own being.
What do you sense? What do you discover? How have you been using your power?
License to Depart
Hold aloft the wand, if you desire.
I give thanks to the Lord and Lady, and to Heyan, Warrior of Protection.
I give thanks to Towathan, and the Spirits of the Temple of Witchcraft
I thank the archangel Michael
I say farewell
I give all spirits license to depart
May there only be peace between us.
Hail and farewell.
Release the sacred space that you have created at the start, if any.
