amended, 2000).
This International Standard is associated with IMO Resolution A.694 (17) and IEC 60945.
Where a requirement in this International Standard is different from IEC 60945, the requirement in this International
Standard takes precedence.

Outline of Platinum Resistance Bulb


The temperature resistance characteristic of platinum wire is internationally utilized
For measuring temperatures in the range of -200°C to 600°C.
Platinum thermal resistance bulbs are known to be most suitable when used as temperature
sensors which require extreme accuracy and stability.

High Temperature Platinum Thermal Resistance Bulb


The platinum thermal resistance bulb is used to measure and monitor the exhaust and steam
temperature of the main engine and the boiler.
This resistance element provided as a unit by depositing platinum wires and internal conductors
to an aluminum oxide bobbin, matches a thermocouple in mechanical strength.
The platinum thermal resistance bulb allows accuracy and stability even under such a strict
environment as a continuous high working temperature of 700°C.

Low Temperature Platinum Thermal Resistance Bulb


The platinum thermal resistance bulb is used to measure and monitor the temperatures of
lubricating oil, cooling water and bearing of various engines as well as the air temperature.
Since the delay characteristic(response speed) is most important factor for low temperature
use this thermal resistance bulb is so designed that its resistor element keeps excellent heat
which may otherwise develop in it.
The adoption of double protection tube does not affect the characteristic, maintaining the
same characteristics as those of protection tube types.

▪AIR HORN CLASS I
The air whistle is a diaphragm sound transmitter operating on compressed air. The signal is released by an electromagnet
or manually using a hand pull-rope. To avoid the costly laying of a pull-rope, a second electromagnet for emergency volt-
age can be provided. A thermostat controlled anti-condensation heating keeps the sound horn and the operating valve free
from condensed water and thus from ice. Typically the air whistle will operate on air pressures 7bar. For electric release
and operation of the heating a connection to AC220V power supply is required.

8. Whistle

▪ELECTRIC HORN CLASS I / CLASS II

The electric whistle is driven by an AC 3phase motor. An essential component is the piston inside the cylinder driven by an
AC3phase motor via connecting rod, crankshaft and gearwheels.
The piston oscillates at a certain frequency which makes the air inside the sound projector vibrate in resonance to produce
a sound. When electrical power is supplied to relay box of whistle system as AC3phase, its motor is kept heating status
always except operating. If the motor is operating, heating mode will be paused.
Grease is used to decrease made high-temp. and reduce friction in operating. It is drained as gas through shaft, piston and
horn.
