CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

Religion is derived from the Latin word Religare, which means to bind or link,
and has the same source as the term ligament. Religions' mission is to unite
humans to God. Incorporates multiple techniques have evolved throughout
generations intending to link humankind. Such religious systems can indeed be
highly distinct in their ideologies and structures, depending on the specific religions'
notion, or perceptions, of God and its cognitive response and aspect of human
existence, even though they may have widely applied concepts and activities.
Because various faiths have distinct views of God, including within specific religions,
there are multiple conceptions of God. Religion frequently contains cultural mores,
knowledge systems, scriptures, prophecies, discoveries, and values that have
spiritual importance to adherents of the specific faith, and it can include a variety of
behaviors such as lectures, ceremonies, devotion, meditation, holy places,
emblems, trances, and feasts. Religion, according to the great psychologist
Sigmund Freud, is a sort of desire satisfaction. The cognitive approach, on the other
hand, acknowledges that religion may play a vital part in an individual's life
experience, and can even encourage health and well-being. Religion, in fact, has
been demonstrated in education to help individuals create good behavior patterns,
manage their actions, and comprehend their emotional responses which can have
an impact on people’s health. Religion may provide solace and assistance. Religion
may have an impact on one's mental wellbeing in both good and bad manner. When
individuals are stressed, religion may provide solace and fortitude. At times, this
link may be less beneficial – or even dangerous – if it causes stress as well as acts
as a barrier to counseling. Religion has the ability to both benefit and hinders
mental health and well-being, according to research. On the positive side, faith and
religion may help create favorable perceptions, cultivate community engagement,
and give good coping strategies. Negative religious coping, misunderstanding, and
damaging false thoughts, on the other hand, maybe deleterious to emotional
stability. Some estimates place the number of religions, churches, denominations,
religious bodies, faith groups, tribes, civilizations, movements, and ultimate
concerns at approximately 4,200, with the number expected to grow in the future.
While there are thousands of different religions in the world, the five oldest religions
are commonly referred to be the world's major religions. These religions include
Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism.

Culture is a collection of common qualities among a group of people in a

certain region, such as beliefs, social traditions, and ethnic origin. Growth and
discipline can be influenced by culture. Values, conventions, bias, societal
consequence, and human behavior are all part of culture. Material commodities, or
the things people use and create, are a part of culture. Culture includes people's
ideas and values, as well as how they think about and interpret the world and their
own lives. Many nations have diverse cultures. According to some estimates, the
nation is home to more than 170 ethno-linguistic groups, each with its own cultural
traditions influenced by waves of Malay, Hindu, Arab, Spanish, Chinese, and
American migration, commerce, and conquest. So, what are some examples of
cultural diversity? Cultural diversity in the workplace may be regarded as having a
bilingual team, a diverse range of ages working together, regulations that are
overtly anti-discrimination, and so on.

One of the reasons for human cultural differences is the variation of their
beliefs and religions. In accordance with the book of Christopher Dawson that has
published in 1948 entitled Religion and Culture, the first creative works of culture
are inspired and dedicated to religion. Nearly every piece of works of the Roman
and Greek were dedicated to their Gods or portrayed Gods doing certain things.
Most ancient religions are somehow impacted by religion, and until today, they
remain to arrange religious sacrifices, forfeit, and thank God for the thing that
occurs. Religion not just affects religion in some way, but it also affects how people
act. In an instance, the Muslims do not hold eye contact or talk loudly because of
their religion. They can't also eat, gift, hold things using their left hand because it
will consider as an evil deed. A lot of Hindus are also vegetarian because of their
religion, and many people have done religious things without acknowledging it. In
TED Talk entitled Phil Borges on Endangered Culture, Phil Borges talks about how
many tribes have cultures entirely based on their religion, culture, and hold
sacrifice.
