Relationships
Human is a social being and relationships have a great impact on a person's life.
There are different types of relationships, such as friendships, family relationships,
relationships with parents, romantic relationships, and more. These relationships are
necessary, but most of all, healthy relationships are necessary for a person.
Question N1 - Have you ever wondered why healthy relationships are
important?
I think that the relationships we form with other people are vital to our mental and
emotional well-being and even our survival. A healthy relationship determines our
inner self-confidence, striving for a goal, forming healthier habits and a clearer
mindset. People in a healthy relationship develop each other. This is very important
for a person and his mental state.
Question N2 - What do you think are the red and green flags in a relationship?
Now let's consider what a healthy relationship looks like. Healthy relationships
involve honesty, trust, respect and open communication between partners and they
take effort and compromise from both people. There is no imbalance of power.
Partners respect each other's independence, can make their own decisions without
fear of retribution or retaliation, and share decisions.
This is what all people need. The quality of social life is not determined by the
number of friends, it is determined by the health of these relationships. That is why
all people should try to concentrate not on the number of friends and who has more
friends, but on who is real among these people.
It is necessary to know how to determine the health of a relationship and how to get
rid of an abusive one, which is quite a difficult issue. These signs are well expressed
in this slide.
Another important topic when we talk about relationships is long-distance and face-
to-face relationships. Maybe you met a stranger on the Internet, on some social
network, or while playing an online game. This interaction can then turn into daily
texting and thus become friends with the person on the social network. They may
keep secrets that you wouldn't tell someone close to you because you don't trust
them as much as you would an online friend.
On the Internet, people are bold and present themselves freely, sometimes even
unrealistically. That's why you often can't guess whether your online friend is sincere
or not. Also the bad side is that you trust online friends more than real life friends
because you have lost their trust. You prefer not to talk about serious topics with
them anymore, that's why real relationships are slowly falling apart. It also becomes
difficult to make new friends in real life as the need and ability for social interactions
is lost.
So both - online and face-to-face friendships have their pros and cons, but still,
online friendships are weaker than real ones, unless they last in real life. If you didn't
get to know the friend you met on the Internet, you didn't study his voice,
mannerisms, character and other characteristics of a person, then this friendship is
not complete.
Question N3 - What do you think about online friendship?
In conclusion, it is important to have a social life. Friends and connections will help
us a lot in planning our future. But it should also be noted that the quality of
friendships is more important than their quantity. That's why such an unhealthy
mindset should be changed by everyone.
Finally, I wish everyone to always have healthy relationships.
Now, let's study the grammar part. The subject of our study is past perfect
continuous.
Past perfect continuous tense denotes an action that started in the past, continued in
the past, and ended at a certain point in the past. had + been + ing
examples: 1) They had a break because they had been working so hard. 2) They
had been waiting so long before the taxi arrived.
Past perfect continuous often emphasizes the action and the time spent on the
action, rather than the result. The past perfect continuous is often used with the
following words and phrases: for, since, before, all day/night/etc.
