Gangtok, Dated 26th September 2024

Subject: Heavy to very heavy rainfall activities over the districts of Sikkim during 26-28th
September 2024
An upper air trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over north Madhya Maharashtra &
neighbourhood to north Bangladesh across Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and
extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level.
In view of above meteorological conditions and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, heavy
to very heavy rain is very likely to affect some parts of the districts of Sikkim during 26 th September to 28th
September, 2024.

Weather Forecast:
26th -28th September, 2024:
Light to Moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Gangtok,
Gyalshing, Mangan, Namchi, Pakyong and Soreng of Sikkim.
Warning for Sikkim:

26th September 2024 :


(i) Heavy to very heavy Rain very likely to occur at a few places over the district of Gangtok, Mangan and Soreng of
Sikkim
(ii) Heavy to very heavy Rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Gyalshing and Pakyong of
Sikkim.
(iii) Heavy Rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Namchi of Sikkim.
27th September 2024 : Heavy Rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gangtok, Namchi, Pakyong
and Mangan of Sikkim.
28th September 2024: Heavy Rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Mangan of Sikkim.

Possible Impacts:

 Localized Flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas.


 Occasional reduction in visibility due to intense rainfall/ valley fog.
 Possibilities of localized Landslides/Mudslides/landslips/mudslips/landsinks/mudsinks.
 Possibilities of blockage in road due to Landslides/ Mudslides.
 Possibilities of damage to horticulture / standing crops.
 Disruption of traffic in cities due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.
 Damages to the kutcha roads.
 Possibility of flash floods.
 Possibilities of damage to vulnerable structure.
 Possibilities of uprooting of trees.
 Possibilities of disruption in Aviation Services due to reduction in visibility
Action Suggested:

 Avoid going to areas that face the water logging.


 Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.
 Check for road condition on your route before leaving for your destination.
 Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.
 Avoid going to areas through land / mud slide prone areas.
 Check the status of flight operation.
 Avoid staying at vulnerable structures.
 Avoid staying at vulnerable kutcha houses/structures.
 Do not use fertilizer & pesticides as it may wash out.
 Take shelter in safe place during thunderstorm/intense spell of rain activity.
 Use Mausam/Damini app for real time weather alert.
