OLD BOLLYWOOD MOVIES

Aastha:

Cast:Aastha: In the Prison of Spring is a 1997 Bollywood film, produced and directed by
Basu Bhattacharya. The film stars Rekha, Om Puri, NavinNischol and Daisy Irani in the main
roles

Synopsis:

marriage. Amar is employed full-time, while Mansi looks after the household chores and
their daughter. Amar earns a steady income, which enables the family to live comfortably,
but they cannot afford to be extravagant at all. One day while buying shoes for her daughter,

purchasing them. Another woman customer named Reena (Daisy Irani) offers to pay for the

shoes, not realizing that Reena has paid for these shoes with a secret agenda that will take
Mansi to a whole new world, and change her life forever and faced many problems in life.
Critical review:

In the movie, Rekha had a controversial role of a married woman who turns into a prostitute,
which was severely criticized by the audience It is a film which has been in the news for its
sensitive handling of an adult theme. Basu Bhattacharya has directed the film with an off-beat
script very well. Not a very convincing subject for the masses.

Article:

“A movie with a message, not made convincingly!, 6 November 2002”

Author: Mausamfrom Seattle

Its a story of a lower middle class happy nuclear family. The lady of the family gets involved
in prostitution, owing to the not so good financial condition of the family. It is the story of the
guilt that comes with the money and the cobweb that such a route entails that its quite an
effort to come out of the profession once one enters it.

This movie has many things to take it from, but lets first discuss the story line. The story line
is quite weak at times. The most important scene of her starting all this is unconvincingly
shown. However one may argue (and I argued the same thing with myself when I saw it the
second time) that this is how it looks like if someone watches a real person go through all
this. It feels unconvincing. And thats how it feels in the movie.

But other than some of that, the movie and many dialogues have far reaching connotations.
The movie talks about man's endless desire to acquire, rather beautifully. It tries to separate
needs and conveniences. It also touches on the sexual imbalance existing between couples.
One line that I always remember from this movie goes something like this "Slowly and
slowly husbands and wives start sharing their habits much more than they share their
thoughts and this distances them".Anyhow, this is a not a great one, but a worth see anyway.
It might not be the full money's worth but it might initiate a much needed thought process.

Satyam ShivamSundaram:
Cast: ShashikapoorZeenatAman

Synopsis:

This folktale story is set in a village where Roopa (ZeenatAman), lives with her father, the
village priest. As a young child, Roopa's right cheek was burned by a pot of oil, leaving part
of her face disfigured. Henceforth, Roopa keeps her right cheek hidden under the cover of her
Sari. Despite the terrible accident, Roopa remains religious and goes to the village Hindu
temple daily, singing hymns and devotional songs.

The protagonist Rajeev (ShashiKapoor), is a dashing engineer who arrives in the village to
oversee the construction of a major dam. He suffers from a fear of ugliness. He hears Roopa's
religious singing and meets her, but somehow doesn't pay attention to her disfigured side, and
falls in love with her. He then asks her father permission to marry her.

After the wedding, he discovers the truth, and thinks that he was cheated and forced to marry
someone else, at which point he disowns Roopa and drives her out of the house. Roopa
decides to meet him at night, using a veil to hide the charred side of her face. Rajeev spends
his days hating his wife, and his nights loving his mistress, not knowing they are both the
same woman - Roopa. During one of their nights together, they make love and Roopa gets
pregnant. When Rajeev finds out that his wife is pregnant, he suspects her of infidelity and
still refuses to believe this his "mistress" and wife are one and the same. In the movie's
climax, a terrible storm ravages the village, breaking open the dam which Rajeev had come to
build. In the swirling waters of the flood, Rajeev realises how shallow he had been, and saves
Roopa from drowning.

Critical review:

Raj Kapoor's unusual and literally disfigured love story "Satyam ShivamSundaram"
(translated as,Truth Godliness Beauty) is one of the most sensationalistic Bollywood films
ever produced. It'spretense is based on a touching love story about a disfigured young woman
who shows a vain man that beauty is more than skin deep. The theme may be "Beauty and the
Beast" but the out come is as one critic states, "more skin than story"

Article:

Strange but beautiful, 2 February 2005

Author: rl400 from United Kingdom

Truth, godliness and beauty. An unconventional Hindi film about inner beauty.ZeenatAman's
character Rupa is a village outcast having burnt one side of her face leaving her disfigured.
She lives life in the shadows of others hiding her scars by veiling one side of her face. Enter
the vain ShashiKapoor as Ranjeev who falls madly in love with Rupa after hearing her
angelic singing at the temple but remains unaware of her disfigurement. Rupa then literally
leads two lives in order to maintain his love.

When released in India it caused much controversy over the mix of religion, the semi-clad
ZeenatAman and erotic symbolism in some sequences. True, no chance is wasted in showing
as much of Zeenats inch perfect body as possible. For many this compromises the message of
the film however it is never vulgar. The portrayal of her own self-loathing and sense of
worthlessness tugs at the heart strings. There is a small minus in ShashiKapoors total
miscasting as the big engineer he looks continually bemused and his sudden conversion
doesn't quite ring true.

The film is beautifully shot and the sunrise colour schemes give it a surreal and dream like
quality. The dialogues are well done and complimented by some great songs. Highly
recommended.

RAM TERI GANGA MAELI:

CAST:Rajiv Kapoor as Narendra "Naren" Sahay ,Mandakini as Ganga Singh

Synopsis:

This story's main character is a young man from Kolkata, visiting the mountains of Gangotri,
falls in love with a girl who lives in the mountains. Their love continues as they get married.
However, the main character must go back to the city because he has unfinished business.
However, before leaving for Kolkata, he promised his wife that he will come back for her.
Unfortunately, he never returned due to family barriers. The girl becomes mother of his child
and finally she decides to search her husband. The girl, who is named Ganga, travels from
Gangotri to Kolkata to find him (this is also the real path the Ganges river takes). On the way,
she only meets sinful and bad people. Though she left Gangotri, innocent and clean (like the
Ganges river), her journey has led her into the path of people who try to exploit her for her
beauty.
Critical review:

Raj Kapoor's craftsmanship in filmmaking was conspicuous till PremRog. It was the medium
of filmmaking that the showman excelled in. Ram Teri Ganga Maili however, marked a
departure. Probably, it was age and changing times that got manifested in the film, for the
focus more on the heroine's bare essentials, than the beautiful and relevant subject of men
sullying and polluting.

Article:

All pomp and no glory!, 8 July 2004

Author: Murali Chari from California

Raj Kapoor is supposed to be the ultimate showman of Bollywood. He does some justice to
this image by choosing spectacular locales along with some great music and photography.
However, there is nothing new this movie offers. It's an unconvincing love story set right at
the foot of Himalayas, between a rich guy and a poor girl. How they meet, get separated and
finally get united in the end forms the core of the story. Most of the Indians would remember
this movie as the first one, at least the first blockbuster, where the heroine openly bares her
breasts. (Such exposure is not very common in Indian movies.) Apart from that dubious
distinction, there is not much else. The music is a blast and worth listening to. Give the movie
itself a skip.

BANDIT QUEEN :
Cast:SeemaBiswas, NirmalPandey and AdityaSrivastava

Synopsis:

The movie tells the story of the bandit queen Phoolan Devi who was sent to prison in 1983
and got free in 1994. During five years she was prosecuted by the Indian police and turned
into a legend (like a modern Robin Hood) by the Indian press. Although the press tended to
make her the optimal hero with blue eyes, dark hair, being tall and beautiful she was in reality
an average Indian which makes it hard for the movie to fulfill the expectations of the
audience and tell the truth at the same time. Later in her life,She entered into the politics and
was assassinated in 2001

Critical review:

This film was based on the painful life of Phoolan Devi. Although the film received critical
acclaim, there were many controversies and upheavals relating to the brutal rape scene certain
other aspects. Phoolan herself tried to stop the release.

Article:
ROGER EBERT July 14 1995

There was a time in the early 1980s when Phoolan Devi, who led a gang of bandits in the
desolate ravines of northern India, was as famous as a movie star. Little girls played with
their Devi Dolls, and the media tracked her every move. "Bandit Queen," a hard and bitter
film, tells her story, which continues even today; recently released from prison, she has sued
to prevent the release of the film, which has also been banned by the Indian censors.

Both Devi and the censors are offended by the movie's many scenes of rape and sexual
humiliation, including a horrifying sequence in which she is raped by most of the upper-caste
men of a village and forced to walk naked through its streets. Even more disturbing is the
portrait of a society that led her up to these moments.

INSAAF KA TARAZU
Cast:ZeenatAman, Raj Babbar and Deepak Parashar

Synopsis:

After the passing of multi-millionaire Ramlal Gupta, his only son and heir, Ramesh, takes
over the estate and business. He attends a Beauty Contest sponsored by Vimal Fabrics, and is
attracted to the Beauty Queen, BhartiSaxena. He meets her later and invites her to his yacht to
celebrate her winning the title, as well as accompanies her on several modeling shoots. He
goes to her residence one morning to show her the photographs taken on his yacht. The next
day Ramesh is arrested by the police and charged with sexually assaulting Bharti. He hires a
advocate named Chandra, and enters a plea of not guilty, stating that both had consensual sex.
The Court hears the arguments as well as the testimony from none other than Bharti's sister,
Neeta, and exonerates Ramesh. Two years later, Bharti is arrested by the police for killing
Ramesh in cold blood. Watch as events unfold to show what compelled Bharti to kill
Ramesh, and whether the Court will sentence her to death or life in prison.

Critical review:

This film was a profit at the box office. However the rape scene of a 13 year old had horrified
the public and led to many controversies.

A brutally honest depiction of rape (InsafKaTarazu), 25 June 2006

Author: city_slayer from United Kingdom

(Spoilers of the movie) InsafKaTarazu is a intense dramatisation about a very real and
disturbing depiction of rape and the after math. Based on the movie Lip Stick, essentially the
story is the same, but the outcome very different. This movie is a well directed, well written,
and powerful rival to any of its time on this subject matter. The story is about a business man
Ramesh (Raj Babar), and his infatuation with Bharati (ZeenatAman) a model, and the lengths
he with go to in order to have her. The end result, the degrading and humiliating rape of
Bhariti. The story in many ways sets out to destroy any preconceived notions that we as
people may have, that justice always prevails, and the guilty are punished for their crimes.

This story is both compelling and disturbingly realistic, due to the subject matter, and actors
portrayal of their characters, which is ever so convincingly done. The rape although
graphically depicted at times is necessary in order to put across the violent nature of the
crime. The topic of rape was some what unchartered territory at the time in Indian cinema, if
not considered taboo. As such the subject of rape was dealt with honestly and aggressively,
displaying the pain staking process a victim has to go through to get justice. Over all I would
say this film is well written, and as such is very watchable, gripping the audience's attention
from the very beginning to the end.

FIRE
Cast:ShabanaAzmi, Nandita Das and Karishma Jhalani

middle-class family going through the normal paces of everyday life. However, as the layers
are slowly peeled back, we find a simmering cauldron of discontent within the family, with

emotionally empty, without love or passion. While Ashok is an ascetic who has taken a vow
of celibacy, Jatin is a handsome ladies' man who is still openly seeing Julie even after his
marriage to Sita...

Critical review:

The film based on lesbianism revolves around two sisters-in law who were victims of
unsuccessful matrimonies. The film had been revolted upon by the public. The film received
a lot of negation both from the critics and the box office.

"Fires" burn physically, emotionally and spiritually in this feminist film from India.,

Author: Kathryn-17 from Tucson, Az29 January 2003

A rare feminist point of view from an Indian filmmaker. Tradition, rituals, duty, secrets, and
the portrayal of strict sex roles make this an engaging and culturally dynamic film viewing
experience. All of the married characters lack the "fire" of the marriage bed with their
respective spouses. One husband is celibate and commits a form of spiritual "adultery" by
giving all of his love, honor, time and respect to his religious swami (guru). His wife is lonely
and yearns for intimacy and tenderness which she eventually finds with her closeted lesbian
sister-in-law who comes to live in their house with her unfaithful husband. This unfaithful
husband is openly in love with his Chinese mistress but was forced into marriage with a
(unbeknownest to him) lesbian. They only have sex once when his closet lesbian wife loses
her virginity.

A servant lives in the house and he eventually reveals the secret that the two women are
lovers. Another significant character is the elderly matriarch who is unable to speak or care
for herself due to a stroke. However, she uses a ringing bell to communicate her needs as well
as her displeasure with the family members. She lets them know through her bell or by
pounding her fist that she knows exacly what's going on in the house and how much she
disapproves. In the end, the truth about everybody comes out and the two female lovers end
up running away together. But, not before there is an emotional scene between the swami-
addicted husband and his formerly straight wife. Her sari catches on fire and at first we think
she is going to die. However, we see the two women united in the very last scene of the
movie. The writer/director of this film challenges her culture's traditions, but she shows us
individual human beings who are trapped by their culture and gender. We come to really care
about the characters and we don't see them as stereotypes. Each on surprises us with their
humanity, vulgarity, tenderness, anger, and spirit.

HATE STORY

Cast:Paoli Dam, GulshanDevaiahand SaurabhDubey

Synopsis:

Kaavya became a prostitute to take revenge on rich guy Siddharth.

Critical review:

Hate Story exposes a lot - underneath Delhi's surface, that is, not really, as the adverts so
tantalizingly showcased, of leading lady Paoli Dam. The film instead blows the top right off
the dirty deals, the, well, intercourse between different power spheres ruling India's capital -
business, politics, journalism, police, all meet in this slick flick. Depending on who you are,
the intersections provide some pleasure - and lots of pain.

It is start towards getting the perfection Bollywood wants, 26 May 2012

Author: bhasinusc from Chennai, India

I just finished watching this movie. Though not equal to Hollywood style picture perfect
execution but still this movie was an attempt towards that goal. Paoli Dam plays a young,
sexy but innocent and naive reporter who earns her living by exposing scandals. On her one
such attempt she exposes SiddharthDhanrajgir the heir to a multi billion empire. Siddharth
decides to set her right. He offers her a job she couldn't refuse, fakes love, sleeps with her and
finally humiliates her by throwing her out of the job.And when Paoli tells Siddharth that she
is expecting his child and wishes to marry him Siddharth gets her kidnapped, murders their
fetus and gets her castrated for life. Left to die in a dustbin in a remote village Paoli
miraculously escapes death. She swears revenge. But she does go about it in a conventional
manner. She chooses to first become a professional hooker and then masters the art of
seduction and flirting. Gradually moving upwards she manages to get access to the top
executives of the corporate world and it is here where she begins to carry out her plan. The
script is good and Paoli Dam and Siddharth's performance are commendable. The one thing
which I especially liked in the movie was the response from Paoli in a situation where she
was castrated, left to die and then disowned by her own parents when she needed their support
the most. At that situation any Indian girl would have thought about the most likely option
i.e; Suicide. But not Paoli. She chose not to leave the city and to get even with Siddharth. I
think this was a brave new portrayal of an Indian woman who wouldn't quit no matter what.
The only negative I found in the movie were the dialogs which I thought were a bit childish
and off-hand

ZEHER
Cast:ShamitaShetty,emranhashmi

Synopsis:

Set in the azure and sultry backdrop of Goa, Zeher tells the tale of a young cop, Siddharth
(EmranHashmi), who is on the verge of a divorce with his wife, Sonia (ShamitaShetty).
His marriage almost over, Siddharth finds himself drawn towards a local married woman
named Anna (UditaGoswami), who is stuck in a bad marriage with a man who beats and
abuses her. She is also suffering from cancer. Though her husband knows that, he doesn't
care about her.
Unable to cope with the pressures of his wife's success, who is in the special police force,
Siddharth continues his secret and dangerous relationship with Anna. Things get even more
complicated when Siddharth takes an irrational decision to give Anna the money he
recovered in a drug raid, for her medication in one final effort to save her from dying of
cancer. To his misfortune, Anna dies in a bomb blast that very night. Siddharth now races to
uncover a murky tail of drug money, murder and deceit...because all the evidences point to
him. The case of Anna’s murder is given to Sonia. With his wife heading the case, Siddharth
is now in a race against time to find out the real truth behind Anna's murder, recover the drug
money and also win his wife's love back.

Critical review:
Vishesh films are known for copying films, not that others don't and at least they make better
films then YRF even though copies. ZEHER was a copy of OUT OF TIME(2003). The entire
movie is almost lifted from the original yet it does have some good scenes and some hit
music. The film starts off well, the characters of Emraan, Shamita and Udita are well handled
and slowly we get involved in the proceedings though the pace does tend to be too slow
sometimes. Even there are hardly few moments between Shamita and Emraan hence their
relationship feels good yet the film does manage to startle you throughout if you haven't
watched the original. Though it does get predictable too often. The climax too is nothing new
and has been done to death

Direction by MohitSuri(his first movie) was good though the script could be tighter. After
assisting the Bhatts in films like FOOTPATH finally MohitSuri(relative of Bhatt) was
launched with this film Music was a big rage, WOH LAMHE was the best song, AE
BEKABAR by KK too is good, all songs are fab overall

EmraanHashmi does his role very well, serious roles suit him best and he does a great job,
this was his 2nd hit after MURDER. ShamitaShetty does a good job, sadly her career didn't
really go miles and she has now quit bollywoodUditaGoswami is wooden and terribly dubbed
by someone else Amongst rest Samir Kochar does a good job, NinadKamat is superb in the
typical hero friend role VishwajeetPradhan is okay.

Article:

Zeher is a story about a hardworking cop (EmranHashmi) whose ex-cop wife

(ShamitaShetty) accuses him of curtailing her freedom, and as a result, walks out on him. Of
course thanedaarsaheb still loves his wife but is too proud to go down the apologetic route.
So he has an affair with the local goon’s wife (UditaGoswami) and even professes his love
for her. But she is dying of cancer and has three months left to live. A person fatally suffering
from cancer is bound to show some symptoms, but our thanedaar who is apparently smart
enough to head his department, doesn’t question a thing when the only symptom his
newfound girlfriend seems to display is a heightened libido. She needs money to treat her
cancer and he has money in his office safe, retrieved from a drug bust he recently completed
(apparently nobody else from the entire precinct knows how much money was recovered).
Things don’t exactly go as planned and the ex-cop wife re-enters the picture rekindling the
old flame (thanedaarsaheb can be excused for sleeping with another woman but god forbid
his wife has dinner with a male friend). Ten minutes into the movie and audiences will have
absolutely no trouble predicting the attempted plot twists. As a matter of fact, my guess is
you have predicted them already. Debutante director MohitSuri doesn’t display much
potential as a storyteller and neither is he able to direct his actors believably. ShamitaShetty
glares and frowns and yells trying to pull off the aggressive, tough cop act, but let’s face it
Ms.Shetty - SushmitaSen or SandhyaMridul you are not. EmranHashmi who impressed with
his earlier performances is unable to spark any life into his grossly confused and misguided
character. UditaGoswami’s non-performance reminds us of early 90s “actor” and Bhatt camp
regular AtulAgnihotri. It is indeed amazing how Ms.Goswami carries the same stoic
expression on her face regardless of whether she is laughing, crying, or seducing her hero.
There are better DVDs to rent even if you simply want to kill some time on a weekend. Zeher
is certainly not one I would recommend. I would however recommend listening to the
addictive WohLamhe by Atif from the film’s soundtrack.

KALYUG
Cast:KunalKhemu, Deepal Shaw and Smiley Suri

Synopsis:

KunalDarr, blue film maker or an innocent man stuck in a bizarre situation?

Everything seemed very normal in Kunal's (KunalKhemu) routine life. There was even the
pleasant surprise in the form of Renuka (SmilySuri) ?a young orphan girl whom fate had
brought to Kunal's door step. Soon the two were in love and even got married but from here
on life would never be the same again.
The most sacred and intimate moment of a couple ?their first night together is captured on a
tape. Kunal and Renuka are arrested. He is blamed for making blue films. Renuka is unable
to deal with the humiliation and commits suicide.
Kunal has to now prove his innocence and uncover the truth behind the blue film racket
which leads him straight to the dark underbelly of Zurich. This world truly is Kalyug.... Strip
shows, xxx clubs, S &M bars, legalized prostitution and drugs... it's one man's war against the
world of pornography. Armed with only a picture of a famous Indian porn star ? Annie
(Deepal Shaw), Kunal gets ready to find and fight a faceless foe.
But what Kunal does not know is that in this ''Kalyug'' one man's tragedy is another man's
entertainment. This business revolves on the simple rules of demand and supply. As long as
there is a need for blue films, someone will fulfill that need. Now Kunal has to fast learn the
ways of this world if he wants to expose the nexus which runs to highest strata of society in
Switzerland.
If you dance with the devil, you don't change the devil. The devil changes you. Will Kunal be
able to find Annie? Is she the enemy he is really looking for? And will Kunal be able to hold
onto his morality in his all consuming desire for revenge?
The movie also stars Bhatt favorite EmranHashmi in a special appearance as Alibhai, the
owner of a sex-shop in Amsterdam. He also sports a new look for the film with pierced
eyebrows and red colored hair. And that's not all! Actress Amrita Singh makes a comeback
with this film and interestingly in a negative role of a woman in control of the pornographic
industry.

Critical review:

The film must be strongly recommended for its intense and topical content. Not only does the
film take on prickly subject of the international porn market it also brings in other screaming
headlines. The young hero is shown as a homeless Kashmiri Pandit in Mumbai, while the
porn queen (a variation of a favouritecelloid archetype –The Fallen Woman –Redeemed,
played soberly by Deepal Shaw) is a victim of the Gujarat communal riots. Every actor is
effective, thanks to the care taken over the characters. But Amrita Singh as the queen-pin and
debutant KunalKhemu (in the strongest part written for a debutant since AbhishekBachchan
in Refugee) stand out.Unconventional in look and controlled in demonstrating trauma of the
whiplashed working-class lad,Khemu makes a promising debut.Even the smallest of inter-
relationship is expertly worked out. The narrative is never short of swift swerves and steep
curves. The packaging, though not exceptionally deft, is eye-catching.Blending a dramatic
love story of a man on a mission of vengeance with an expose of a porn racket couldn't be
easy. Kalyug takes us into the underbelly of modern existence without losing a sense of
bewildered anxiety about the way we look at the question of privacy and morality.During a
time when the biggest and classiest of the banners are stripping their leading ladies to the
barest of the minimum, Kalyug talks and acts on the traditional old-world value of dignity
and respect for women and the acute need for the preservation of the under-attack
middleclass values.Ironically a film about pornography finally turns out to be a morality of
tale the conscience and its redemption. Wonders never cease.

Is censorship more an issue of who has made the film rather than what's the film? Does
subject or the treatment decide the sharpness of Censor's scissors? The certification of the
two recent films, "Kalyug" and "Neal n Nikki" makes a statement in this regard.

A ticket of "Kalyug" at a city multiplex. While the Censor Board has passed the ?lm with an
A-certi?cate the ticket has U/A printed on it.

The recent "Neal `N' Nikki" versus "Kalyug" controversy over censor certification has again
put a question mark over the efficacy and the very process of classification of films in the
country. Is it the subject or the treatment, what will decide whether the film is meant for a
universal or adult certificate? The debate started when Mahesh Bhatt's "Kalyug" that deals
with the issue of pornography in a civilised manner was awarded an adult certificate by the
Censor Board of Film Certification while Yash Raj banner's "Neal `N' Nikki", which in the
garb of a young love story set in Canada presented sleaze to the youngsters, walked away
with U/A certificate. The film has got more than a dozen smooches, the heroine christens her
assets and every time she hops the camera captures her under garments. Even the basic
premise the hero wants to try 21 girls before getting married is as far from the Indian values
as one can get. That it comes from the Yash Raj banner, which once made mustard fields
staple in Hindi cinema and dealt with the issue of a young girl falling for an old man with
great maturity in "Lamhe", is all the more disappointing. The excuse nice is out, naughty is
in.

THE DIRTY PICTURE

Cast:VidyaBalan, EmraanHashmi and TussharKapoor

Synopsis:

The love story between an actress and a director.Inspired by the life of the late south Indian
actress Silk Smitha.

Critical review:

The Dirty Picture, despite the comprehensive objectivity implied through its title, is not a
full-fledged biopic. Instead of painting a layered portrait of Silk, it draws an outline of an
unapologetic resident of a flesh-obsessed film industry responsible for her rise and ruin. But
Vidya lends her so much transparency, aplomb and sauciness, the outcome is far more awe-
inspiring than it deserves to be.Whether she's cracking crude innuendos or bursting out of her
tightly-fitted clothing to expose all those meticulously added calories, the actress, literally,
puts her soul and body to embody Silk. In a world, where a majority of women obsess over a
flat stomach above anything else, Vidya flaunts a protruding belly as though it didn't exist.
Such commitment would impress anybody.

Article:

Times Of India
All she had was her well endowed body, her in-your-face sexuality, her seductive moves and
her rock hard confidence to carry her through a world that was more than willing to exploit a
lone woman, seeking sustenance in a man's world. That was enough to transform Reshma
into Silk, a storm that refused to be quelled by anything or anybody. Determined to take on
the industry single-handedly and carve a niche for herself as a sex symbol in a hypocritical
world, Silk was the steroid shot that sent the world in a tizzy. Journalists and holier-than-thou
art film makers like Abraham (EmraanHashmi), hysterical women's groups and the
ubiquitous moral police branded her the scum of the earth. But her legion fans were ready to
lay their lives for her and the industry heroes, like Suryakant( Naseeruddin Shah) couldn't
keep their eyes and hands off her. One dirty picture followed another and name, fame and
success peaked to unimaginable heights for our girl from nowhere who unabashedly lived out
her dreams. Her survival policy: savour the bouquets, ignore the brickbats. Life was literally
on song.

JISM 2
Cast: Sunny Leone, Junayeed Bin Fakhrul and RandeepHooda.

Synopsis:

Izna, a porn star, is given a task by IB Officer Ayaan Thakur to get hold of her ex-lover
Kabir, who is now a gangster. But will Kabir accept Izna back into his life?

Critical review:

Watched "JISM 2". If you want to laugh at emotional scenes then it is a must watch. I didn't
get the creative motto behind making of this picture. If they wanted to expose Sunny Leone,
then they should have remembered that she is already over exposed. Censor has chopped the
steamy scenes at the level that it could have been gotten U/A certification but the taboo of
Sunny Leone made it A. There is only a good thing that is the poster design, especially the
girl in semi transparent cover, which is not in film. This poster easily created the curiosity
among audience. Due to this poster and the brand value of it's part 1, exhibitors are going to
book losses because audience will bombard with negative mouth publicity. Direction is poor.
Story is also not up to mark. Few dialogues are good at places but remember only a few.
when Sunny Leone fell in love at first sight is good. Rest dialogues are reflecting the
dialogues writers personal things without thinking about the character. Dialogue writer
ShaguftaRafique, has used heavy Urdu word like Myar, Darakht, Tasauuar, Awam but there
is no any typical Muslim character. Music is good and soothing at least. Performance wise
RandipHooda is good in anger but funny in emotional scenes. Surprisingly Sunny Leone did
well in an intense emotional scene.

TIMES OF INDIA

Jism-2 is a sexy movie - but it's not as dirty a picture as you might expect. Surprisingly, Jism-
2 hovers over sex, like a butterfly gliding across one of the many water pools the movie
features. The few times the film does jump in, it lands in the shallow end. That's despite a hot
start featuring amply-endowed Izna (Leone), all red lingerie, glistening high heels, tight
suspenders and generous cleavage, riding intelligence bureau (IB) officer Ayaan (Singh) on a
hotel room bed. The film's first make-out scene thus firmly embedded in its first three
minutes, Izna wakes to a hangover and an offer. Just skin show doesn't work in Bollywood.
While a dose of it is nice, overdose can kill. That's what happened to this movie. It was a
nothing movie really, no story, no acting, nothing to grab attention apart from sunny leone,
and frankly, people have seen enough of her to want to see her in a censured movie."Film
posters and banners of obscene nature should never be displayed in public places, particularly
near educational institutions and the local administration should take note," said
SayaliPathak, a Jamshedpur Women's College student and a resident of Kadma. "We have
nothing against the content of the film but against its publicity material," said a functionary of
the Jharkhand Human Rights' Organization. "Is there any specified zone for pasting film
posters? We would rather appeal to the administration to provide us a dedicated place where
we can put up posters," said AmitAgarwal, owner of GaushalaTalkies.Initially, Jism 2 ran at
Gaushala and is currently running in Payal Cinema. "Any publicity material demands
maximum attention. If we put up posters in places where people don't get to see them, the
very purpose of publicity gets defeated," said a cinema hall owner. He also said at a time
when the industry is passing through tough times in the Steel City, the administration should
come forward to support and cooperate with hall owners.
Murder 2

Cast: Jacqueline Fernandez, Yana Gupta and EmraanHashmi

Synopsis:

Ex-cop Arjun has crossed over on the other side of the law and prefers to earn his living the
underhand way. But life begins to change when a pimp hires him to nab a serial killer who is
murdering his girls. Danger threatens to strike home when the killer sets eyes on Arjun's
girlfriend (Jacqueline Fernandes) and bookmarks her as his next target.

Critical review:

For all those who loved Murder, a word of caution. Murder 2 lacks the mellifluity and the
passionate chemistry between the lead players. Of course, there are a lot of intense physical
encounters between EmraanHashmi and Jacqueline Fernandes, but their relationship is
essentially a lame duck, with Jacqueline begging for more (love) and Emraan insisting
`Enough!' In fact, you even have the girlfriend groveling in the streets, pleading for his
attention. This is so unlike the sizzle and hiss between MallikaSherawat and Emraan in the
first film. Actually, there's enough in the film to raise the hackles of diehard feminists, but
obviously this potent cocktail of sex and violence was never meant for the feminists. So, we'll
set aside this issue altogether and move on to another plane. Murder 2 works primarily due to
its pace. The first half is racy and scuttles through as the grotesque killer closes on his sundry
kills. The second half does have Emraan meandering aimlessly on a futile search for a victim
and he does take too long to close in. But any sluggishness in pace is made up by the
performances. While Emraan is his usual edgy self, Prashant Narayanan is absolutely
riveting. Jacqueline Fernandes replays her role as succulent eye candy and the rest of the
ensemble cast are competent. There may be nothing original about the story, yet Murder 2
has enough to give the masses a mast time.

Sex and Murder=idiotic movie, 23 July 2011-NDTV

Let's start. Firstly, the cover of the movie shows Jacqueline Fernandes and EmraanHashmi in
a lot of highly sexual scenes. This is enough to get at least 60% of the population interested
even without looking at the plot. The girls will watch it for Emraan and the guys will watch it
for Jacqueline.Second, what does this movie teach? It teaches that a murderer can kill over 12
girls and not get caught by the police, instead he gets caught by an ex-cop. Then, even after
the murderer confesses to his crime, he is actually able to walk out of the police station scott
free. Then, he kills the person who freed him plus another girl while police were parked right
outside the place where he was doing the killing. What will people think when they watch this
movie? They'll think Indian cops are a bunch of idiots who let sociopaths get away even after
they confess to a crime in the police station. Now anyone who knows psychology knows that
this guy didn't have a problem with his sexual identity. He had an anti-social personality
disorder. Watch Dexter, a TV series, if you don't understand.I'm just disappointed and
ashamed, since I'm an Indian myself, I know there are waaaybetter movies out there. I know
that kids in India will be watching this since nobody cares about the ratings there.Even after
this, it's still a box office success! Yay go erotic advertising and hormones!
