ACT I
SCENE 1
6
The living room of THE CLOISTERS in a town in Massachusetts. The
room is large and charmingly furnished, with many deep chairs covered
in flounced chintz. The wallpaper is bright and in good taste. A large
square rug covers most of the floor. There is a double sliding door leading
from the hallway stage right. At rise, FAIRY MAY stands gazing pensively
out of the window upstage center, while FLORENCE sits at a table
downstage center, playing Parchesi with herself. MRS. PADDY is upstage
left, facing her canvas. HANNIBAL is tuning his violin.
FAIRY: (Turning from the window) Is their car still in front, Florence?
FLORENCE: I said, can you see if they’ve left yet?
HANNIBAL: Oh, Fairy! (FAIRY starts, and turns to him.) Florence was
speaking to you.
FAIRY: I’m sorry, Florence. I was watching the fireflies. What did you say?
FLORENCE: I said, can you see if their car has left?
FAIRY: (Shakes her head.) I wish I’d been born a cat so I could see in the
dark.
JEFF: I don’t think I’ll wait for her. I’m going to get a book and go to my
room. (He crosses down to FLORENCE.)
FLORENCE: (Solicitously.) Does your jaw hurt tonight, Jeff?
JEFF: Not bad.
FLORENCE: Then stay a little longer. We’d like to have you.
HANNIBAL: Jeff—you’ve already invested two hundred and sixty-seven
minutes in waiting—surely you can afford an additional ten cents’ worth.
JEFF: (Smiles.) All right, my statistical friend. My curiosity is good for ten
minutes more.
(FAIRY moves to look out the window again as HANNIBAL tunes his
violin.)
7
FAIRY: I wonder what she is like? Miss Willie says they are one of the
wealthiest families in America.
HANNIBAL: Oh, that’s bad. She’ll have an expensive camera she can’t
work. (Plunk.) Or rave about an artist none of us has heard of. (Plunk.)
FAIRY: Oh—cynic! Has money spoiled me?
HANNIBAL: Do you have money, Fairy?
FAIRY: Bags.
FLORENCE: Let’s not be prejudiced about money. Some of my best
friends are wealthy. Hannibal—play something while we’re waiting. Help
distract Jeff.
HANNIBAL: Well—you catch me tuned. What shall it be?
FLORENCE: Surprise us.
HANNIBAL: How about a gypsy czardas? (He puts the violin under his
chin.)
FAIRY: Please don’t play gypsy music; it frightens me.
HANNIBAL: (Lowers violin.) Frightens you?
FAIRY: Terrifies me. I was stolen by gypsies when I was a child and
rescued just as they were about to dye my skin with walnut juice.
(The others give her reproving looks.)
FLORENCE: Go ahead, Hannibal. (HANNIBAL resumes playing but
pauses again.)
FAIRY: I hope she likes music. Maybe she plays some instrument herself.
The harp! Oh—I hope she plays a harp.
HANNIBAL: (Sotto voce to FLORENCE.) Let’s move her along before she
begins to wish for the moon.
8
(As they converse, MRS. SAVAGE enters, looking slightly out of place but
radiant in her blue-tinted hair and youthful clothing. She carries her
cherished teddy bear.)
MRS. SAVAGE: (Entering and admiring the room) How lovely!
HANNIBAL: (To MRS. SAVAGE) Welcome to The Cloisters!
FAIRY: (Excitedly) You’re our new friend!
FLORENCE: (Rising) May I introduce myself? I’m Florence Williams.
We’ve been waiting for you.
MRS. SAVAGE: How do you do?
FAIRY: (Almost jumping with joy) Say you love me!
MRS. SAVAGE: But—we’ve just met!
FAIRY: You don’t have to mean it. I feel wonderful when people say they
love me.
MRS. SAVAGE: Well, I’m sure everyone loves you.
FAIRY: (Gaily, to the others) You see—I told you she wouldn’t be spoiled.
(Then to MRS. SAVAGE) Welcome to The Cloisters. Climate best by
government test!
MRS. SAVAGE: Thank you! (She takes a moment to absorb the warmth
of the room.)
(HANNIBAL leans closer to the piano, tuning his violin as the others
gather around MRS. SAVAGE.)
FLORENCE: And this is Hannibal. (He bows theatrically.)
HANNIBAL: (With exaggerated politeness) How do you do, Mrs. Savage?
It’s a pleasure to have you here.
MRS. SAVAGE: How delightful to meet you all!
FAIRY: And this is our mostly silent resident, Mrs. Paddy. (She indicates
MRS. PADDY, who is at her easel.)
9
FLORENCE: (Quietly) Beware of her silence. It’s been noted to bite!
MRS. PADDY: (Without missing a beat) I hate everything in the world
but most of all I hate... cold cream, hot dogs, codfish, crawfish, catfish,
catnip, caterpillars... (The litany continues as others politely ignore her.)
JEFF: (Entering from the side, catching part of the conversation) What a
charming party we’ve got here!
HANNIBAL: And who might you be?
JEFF: Jeffrey Meredith at your service. (He flashes a smile.) Don’t mind
Mrs. Paddy—she’s quite harmless unless you offer her a hot dog!
MRS. SAVAGE: (Giggling) Yes—she has very specific tastes!
(FAIRY suddenly starts to bounce on her feet, pensive once more.)
FAIRY: I hope she doesn’t get mad at me for saying we have a “madwoman
with rabies” in our midst!
HANNIBAL: (Laughing) Oh, she’s harmless, trust me. Just keep your
distance if any food is around!
JEFF: So, Mrs. Savage, what brings you to our charming institution?
MRS. SAVAGE: I’m here for what had become impossible—some peace of
mind, it seems!
FLORENCE: (Wistfully) Yes, some of us are here to chase away the ghosts
that haunt us.
HANNIBAL: And others just drift in and out—but they're welcome just
the same!
(As they share laughter and exchange stories, the atmosphere lightens. A
buzz of enthusiasm builds. Suddenly, the second set of double doors opens
and in walk the three stepchildren: Senator TITUS, LILY BELLE, and
JUDGE SAMUEL.)
TITUS: (With authority) Mother! There you are!
10
(The mood shifts abruptly. The other characters step aside, their
expressions changing as Titus approaches MRS. SAVAGE.)
LILY BELLE: (With a thin smile) How lovely it is to see you settled in!
SAMUEL: We’ve been worried about you, you know.
MRS. SAVAGE: (Brightening) Oh, I’m fine, dear. These new friends are
delightful!
TITUS: (Frowning) Friends? You shouldn’t be making friends here,
Mother.
FAIRY: (Under her breath) Ha! A great big house of everything I don’t
know!
MRS. SAVAGE: (Firmly) And why not? This place may be more
supportive than just the name of our family suggests!
LILY BELLE: (Eyes narrowing) Mother, you shouldn't even be here. You
need to think of your future—of your wealth!
MRS. SAVAGE: (With a mix of surprise and resolve) My wealth belongs
to whom I choose!
TITUS: That’s just it! You can’t squander your resources on whims and
fancy!
(As Titus speaks, Jeff and Hannibal exchange glances, protectively
positioning themselves closer to MRS. SAVAGE.)
FAIRY: (Staunchly) Wealth is what's in your heart, isn’t it? (She nods at
MRS. SAVAGE)
TITUS: I’m talking about finances, Fairy! Money—real money!
MRS. SAVAGE: (With a smile) There’s enough to go around without
being greedy, Titus.
11
*(As tension rises, the other guests look to Titus with curiosity and disdain.
MRS. PADDY stands up, creating a silent but imposing
figure in the corner, quietly observing the growing conflict.)
MRS. PADDY: (Softly, yet loudly enough to be heard) I hate everything
in the world, but most of all I hate greed. (She folds her arms.)
TITUS: (Ignoring her comment) Mother, we have important business to
settle. You need to return home with us—*
MRS. SAVAGE: (Defiantly) And do what, Titus? Sit in a big house and
count my money?
LILY BELLE: Please, Mother, we’re trying to help you understand the
importance of responsibility!
HANNIBAL: (Suddenly stepping forward) And what about the
responsibility to yourself, Senator?
JEFF: (Joining in) Yes! Mrs. Savage has every right to create her own
happiness—whatever form it may take!
TITUS: You see? This is exactly what I mean! She’s been brainwashed by
these... people!
FAIRY: (Delightedly) I’d call us friends, not brainwashers!
(The tension continues to escalate as the group begins to mobilize against
TITUS and his siblings. MRS. SAVAGE looks around, a mix of
determination and confusion touching her face.)
MRS. SAVAGE: (Firmly) I have the right to be here, to be happy! This is
my choice, and I reject your pressure!
TITUS: (Fuming) You’re not fit to make choices for yourself!
MRS. SAVAGE: And who are you to decide what’s fit for me?
12
(A pause hangs in the air as the residents gather around MRS. SAVAGE,
reinforcing their solidarity. The stage becomes a tableau of conflict before
an icy silence settles.)
LILY BELLE: Mother—you must listen to reason. You’re endangering
your well-being by associating with these... misfits!
MRS. SAVAGE: (Turning her back on TITUS and addressing the others)
These wonderful misfits are my friends! They see me for who I truly am!
(Just then, MRS. PADDY, as if awakening from a trance, suddenly points
toward the door.)
MRS. PADDY: I hate doors! Especially doors that keep secrets!
(JUDGE SAMUEL and SENATOR TITUS share a confused look, totally
baffled by MRS. PADDY’s outbursts.)
TITUS: Are we expected to take advice from her?
FAIRY: Well, I do! She has a keen sense of observation!
MRS. SAVAGE: (With a smile) I think Mrs. Paddy is onto something!
Sometimes it’s the people who are dismissed that have the clearest insights!
(The tension dissipates slightly as a new dynamic begins to take shape.
The residents rally around MRS. SAVAGE with newfound enthusiasm.)
HANNIBAL: We should have an official welcoming party!
FAIRY: Oh, what fun! I’ll bake!
JEFF: I can bring over some books!
MRS. SAVAGE: And I can invite a few more friends to join us!
(TITUS looks around, realizing the control he usually exerts over the
situation is slipping away.)
TITUS: Mother, this isn’t a game!
13
MRS. SAVAGE: (Turning to face him, unyielding) It’s my life, Titus. And
I intend to live it with the people who fill my heart, not just my bank
account!
(The atmosphere has shifted dramatically; the focus is now on the
camaraderie between MRS. SAVAGE and her new friends. The
stepchildren share concerned glances but remain impotently on the
sidelines.)
LILY BELLE: (Desperate) Mother, please—this isn’t who you are!
MRS. SAVAGE: No, Lily Belle, that’s exactly it! I’m becoming who I am
meant to be! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a party to plan!
(As MRS. SAVAGE turns to gather ideas from her friends, the stepchildren
exchange frustrated looks and retreat slightly, feeling outnumbered and
ineffective.)
TITUS: (Quietly, to his siblings) We’ve got a long way to go if we want to
get her back.
(The lights begin to fade as the music from HANNIBAL’s violin resumes,
creating a lively and festive atmosphere. MRS. PADDY picks up her
paintbrush again with great determination.)
MRS. PADDY: Let’s paint joy and happiness!
RENCE, HANNIBAL, FAIRY, and MRS. PADDY gather near the
center, each preparing in their own way for the celebratory
atmosphere. The tension between MRS. SAVAGE and her
children lingers in the background while the vibe of the room is
filled with warmth and camaraderie.
SCENE 2
Time passes some hours later. The atmosphere in the room is much
lighter, filled with laughter and joy from the impromptu party. The lights
14
brighten, revealing the warm glow of friendship. The audience sees guests
sharing stories and laughter.
FAIRY: (Joyfully) And that’s when I realized the only way to get rid of the
pesky squirrel was to offer nuts! (Everyone laughs.)
HANNIBAL: Nuts? Were you trying to charm him or bribe him?
FAIRY: Oh, both! I figured if I caught his attention, he wouldn’t mind
sharing our space!
(The group chuckles, echoing their newfound comfort. MRS. SAVAGE,
sitting in a comfortable chair, watches them all with a smile, an air of
contentment radiating from her.)
MRS. SAVAGE: (To the group) You know, I never expected to find such
happiness here. I thought I was just looking for peace.
JEFF: And look what you found instead!
HANNIBAL: (Pretending to bow) A queen among misfits!
FAIRY: (Clapping) Let’s make a toast to Mrs. Savage—
MRS. SAVAGE: (Interrupting) No toasts, dear! Just genuine laughter!
(As smiles cross the faces around her, the door swings open and DR.
EMMETT enters, looking slightly harried yet cheerful.)
DR. EMMETT: Well, it seems I’ve stumbled upon a very lively gathering.
FLORENCE: (Brightly) Dr. Emmett! Join us!
HANNIBAL: We were just discussing how to survive in a world that may
not welcome us!
DR. EMMETT: (Chuckling) Sounds delightful. But don’t forget that the
world outside is waiting, too.
MRS. SAVAGE: (Nodding) Yes, but we’ll take it at our own pace, won’t
we?
15
DR. EMMETT: That’s the spirit! (Pausing, surveying the cheerful
atmosphere) You’ve made quite the impression here, Mrs. Savage.
MRS. SAVAGE: And I intend to keep it going!
(Everything shifts as the dynamic between the stepchildren and MRS.
SAVAGE is laid bare. Outside tensions still simmer, but that’s kept in the
background as the warmth of camaraderie dominates the stage.)
TITUS: (Entering abruptly) Mother!
(The room grows tense as everyone turns to face him, preparing for the
familiar discomfort of confrontation.)
SAMUEL: (Following closely behind) You need to come with us now!
LILY BELLE: We have business to discuss—
MRS. SAVAGE: (Standing firm) I’m not going anywhere with you.
TITUS: Committing ourselves to a lunatic asylum isn’t the way to behave,
Mother!
HANNIBAL: (Boldly steps between them) And where’s your sense of
family?
FAIRY: (Chiming in) You shouldn’t bully someone just for their dreams!
TITUS: (Irritated) Dreams? You call this a dream? These “misfits” are no
place for a lady of your stature!
(A stunned silence stretches across the room, tension palpable. MRS.
SAVAGE takes a deep breath, clearly steadying herself against her
children’s accusations.)
MRS. SAVAGE: (With resolve) My stature is more than my status, Titus!
These people see me—truly see me. I am not one to be discarded like a piece
of old furniture!
(Dr. Emmett watches, nodding at the strength of Mrs. Savage's
conviction.)
16
TITUS: Staying here is a mistake. Think of your reputation!
MRS. SAVAGE: (Calmly) My reputation is my own! Here, they have
taught me something far more valuable than the judgment I feared.
(LILY BELLE moves forward, trying to exploit her mother's vulnerability.)
LILY BELLE: But what about us, Mother? Surely you can’t abandon your
own flesh and blood?
MRS. SAVAGE: You abandoned me the moment you plotted against my
happiness!
TITUS: (Fuming) This is no way to act, Mother!
MRS. SAVAGE: (Raising her voice in defiance) No, this is the way I
choose to act! I’ve spent too long being dictated to by your desires, and I
refuse to be silenced any longer!
(The tension in the room escalates as the residents of The Cloisters rally
around MRS. SAVAGE. They show solidarity, positioning themselves
between her and her stepchildren.)
HANNIBAL: You see, Titus, if you really cared about your mother, you’d
let her make her own choices!
FAIRY: Exactly! Love isn’t about control; it’s about understanding!
(MRS. PADDY nods in agreement, crossing her arms resolutely.)
MRS. PADDY: I may be a woman of few words, but my heart speaks
volumes.
(TITUS looks around, realizing he is outnumbered, both by emotion and
unity among the group. He steals a glance at SAMUEL and LILY BELLE,
who both look conflicted.)
TITUS: (Taking a step back, voice softer) This isn’t over, Mother.
LILY BELLE: Let’s go, Titus. We don’t need to humiliate ourselves
further. (She moves to exit, dragging SAMUEL with her.)
17
SAMUEL: (Looking back, hesitating) Mother...
MRS. SAVAGE: (Softening for a brief moment) You know where to find
me.
(As they exit, the remaining occupants of the room breathe a collective
sigh of relief. MRS. SAVAGE sits back down, visibly shaken but resolute.)
JEFF: (Approaching her with concern) Are you all right, Mrs. Savage?
MRS. SAVAGE: I’m better than I was yesterday, Jeff. It feels good to be
free, even if it’s just a momentary victory.
FAIRY: (Beaming) And you don’t have to live in the shadows anymore!
(HANNIBAL raises his violin, signaling a celebration.)
HANNIBAL: To our brave Mrs. Savage, and the freedom we will cultivate
together!
(The atmosphere shifts again from tense to jovial as the group circles
around MRS. SAVAGE, cheering her on, and HANNIBAL plays a lively
melody.)
MRS. SAVAGE: (Grinning) Thank you, my friends. Each day with you is a
reminder that we are indeed richer for what we share.
(Just then, MISS WILLIE swings the door open abruptly, her expression
serious, interrupting the merriment.)
MISS WILLIE: Doctor Emmett needs to speak with you, Mrs. Savage.
(The room quiets down as MRS. SAVAGE exchanges curious glances with
her friends. The sense of camaraderie is strong, but they can feel the
underlying tension of the earlier confrontation.)
MRS. SAVAGE: (Rising) Very well. What does he require of me now?
(MISS WILLIE gestures for MRS. SAVAGE to follow as the others remain
behind, exchanging whispers of encouragement, anticipating good news.)
FAIRY: (Waving) We’ll be right here!
18
(As MRS. SAVAGE exits with MISS WILLIE, the remaining residents and
JEFF begin organizing a small celebration, creating a warm and inviting
atmosphere.)
HANNIBAL: Who’s ready for a bit more music?
(FAIRY and the others cheer as HANNIBAL prepares to play again, their
laughter ringing out like music through the room as each character comes
to terms with their own quirks and imperfections. The lights begin to dim,
focusing on HANNIBAL as he plays a lively tune.)
(Lights fade to black, and the sound of joyful laughter plays as the curtain
falls on Act I.)
End of Act I
Act II
19
JOHN THOMAS: (wide-eyed) Fairies? I didn’t see any. But I’ll look for
them today!
(HANNIBAL smiles and strums his violin lightly.)
HANNIBAL: Just keep an eye out; they can be very sneaky!
(Enter MISS WILLIE with some gardening tools.)
MISS WILLIE: (handing tools to JOHN THOMAS) Now you can help us
take care of these plants. Just remember—it’s a lot of work, but it’s
rewarding when they grow!
(JOHN THOMAS nods eagerly and runs off with the tools, before
peeking back into the room.)
JOHN THOMAS: I’m going to find as many fairies as I can!
FAIRY: (giggling) Make sure to invite them for tea!
20
FAIRY: (leaning close to MRS. SAVAGE) Do you think they’ll try and send
more people to check up on you?
MRS. SAVAGE: (with a determined smile) Let them try.
21
MRS. SAVAGE: (with comedic timing) Well, what can I say? I find the
realities of the world a bit dull compared to the magic around me here.
NEWS REPORTER: (chuckling) Is that a way of saying you believe you'll
beat the odds with your Memorial Fund?
Scene 4 (Continued): A Comedic Interlude with the News
Reporter
MRS. SAVAGE: (smiling) Well, let’s just say that if you’re looking for
glamour, you’d be wise to avoid my stepchildren. They could use a good
dose of reality—just as I could use some fresh air out there in the world.
NEWS REPORTER: So you claim you’re not concerned about your public
image?
MRS. SAVAGE: (playfully) Public image? My dear, I seem to be
surrounded by hundreds of reports of my outrageous antics. If anything, I
should charge a fee for laughs!
FAIRY: (jumping in) And I’d like to add that no amount of money can
measure the joy of friendship we have in here!
NEWS REPORTER: (smirking) So, Mrs. Savage, it sounds like you’re
living the life of luxury—what do you say to those who might label you as
“eccentric” or even “mad”?
MRS. SAVAGE: (winking) I prefer to see it as being a free spirit!
(The LOCAL POLICEMAN, having lingered in the background,
nods in agreement, chuckling as he takes a step back from the
spotlight.)
LOCAL POLICEMAN: It’s nice to see someone with spirit!
(The NEWS REPORTER, eagerly typing on his digital pad,
continues probing for more sound bites.)
22
Scene 5: The Confrontation with the Judge
Setting: The living room, shortly after the reporter leaves.
(At rise, the atmosphere is lighter, but tension is building as
JUDGE SAMUEL enters, looking beleaguered and glancing
disapprovingly at everyone.)
JUDGE SAMUEL: (irritated) What is going on in here? I’ve been
receiving reports about children in trouble and wild parties!
FAIRY: (giggling) Not a party, just a gathering of lovely souls!
JUDGE SAMUEL: (sternly) Gathering or not, you all must recognize that
decorum needs to be maintained, especially in a quarantined space.
(MRS. SAVAGE steps forward, holding her teddy bear.)
MRS. SAVAGE: Your Honor, if you’re judging my sanity, perhaps you’ve
lost your gavel!
(The room bursts into laughter, lightening the mood.)
HANNIBAL: (leaning in) We’re just here trying to figure out our own
“court of love”!
(JUDGE SAMUEL exhales, relaxing slightly as he witnesses the
camaraderie.)
JUDGE SAMUEL: (smiling) Well, if you insist on playing the
merrymaker, keep it down. I can’t have any more… disturbances.
23
DR. EMMETT: I’ve just received word about more tabloids running with
peculiar headlines. I want the truth—a good story!
MRS. SAVAGE: Well, you need to have a conversation with my
stepchildren if you want something juicy. They’re experts at drama.
(JOHN THOMAS can be seen peeking through the doorway.)
JOHN THOMAS: (excitedly) I heard the grown-ups talking about a “truth
drug”! What’s that?
HANNIBAL: It’s something intended to cause the truth to spill out, dear
boy! Not for the fainthearted!
(MISS WILLIE returns, slightly out of breath.)
MISS WILLIE: We need to keep our stories as sweet as the friendship
we’ve gained here!
(DR. EMMETT nods, gathering everyone’s attention.)
DR. EMMETT: Yes, let’s prioritize our truth here. I want to make certain
that Mrs. Savage knows we stand together against any threat!
24
(JOHN THOMAS jumps in, excitedly.)
JOHN THOMAS: If we’re a family, can I have a new nickname? Like
“John Thomas the Brave”?
HANNIBAL: (playfully) Only if you promise to protect this kingdom from
the evil Boredom!
(Everyone laughs, including JUDGE SAMUEL, who shakes his
head, finally letting down his defenses.)
JUDGE SAMUEL: Well, “Brave” is a fine title. Just make sure you use it
wisely, young man!
(DR. EMMETT, witnessing the bonding and cheer, takes a step
forward.)
DR. EMMETT: It’s wonderful to see this transformation taking place.
Mrs. Savage, it seems you’ve managed to not only bring joy but a touch of
magic to The Cloisters.
MRS. SAVAGE: (smiling) Life is a performance, Doctor. We all deserve
our time in the spotlight, no matter how peculiar our stage may be!
(The LOCAL POLICEMAN chuckles, clapping his hands to gather
attention.)
LOCAL POLICEMAN: If this is the kind of gathering I’m going to
encounter, I may just need to visit more often!
FAIRY: (giggling) We’d love that! Bring your dancing shoes!
(As the laughter subsides, MRS. SAVAGE looks around the room,
her gaze lingering on each character.)
MRS. SAVAGE: I believe I have found what I was looking for. It’s not just
about wealth or status; it’s about purpose. A purpose that I will continue to
fulfill through my Memorial Fund.
(JEFF glances at her, a spark of hope in his eyes.)
25
JEFF: And with this newfound purpose, we can all dream a little bigger!
MRS. SAVAGE: Exactly! Together, we shall illuminate the dreams of
those who’ve been forgotten.
Scene 8: A Hopeful Departure
Setting: A day later, in the living room, slightly more organized as
preparations for Mrs. Savage's departure are underway.
(All characters gather, some holding items and others deep in
conversation, planning activities.)
MISS WILLIE: (entering with a suitcase) Everything appears to be in
order for your departure, Mrs. Savage.
MRS. SAVAGE: (taking in the scene, warmly) Thank you, Miss Willie. I
believe my time here has become a cherished memory.
(The sound of laughter fills the room as JOHN THOMAS rushes
in with a bouquet of flowers.)
JOHN THOMAS: For you, Mrs. Savage! From the garden!
MRS. SAVAGE: (kneeling to his level) Thank you, John Thomas! You’ve
made my heart bloom along with these flowers.
(As MRS. SAVAGE stands, the rest of the residents gather in a
semi-circle around her.)
FAIRY: Remember to visit often, or we’ll round up some faeries to come
find you!
HANNIBAL: Don’t forget to play our song whenever you’re alone!
MRS. SAVAGE: (smiling through tears) I promise I will carry each of your
spirits with me.
(The characters exchange heartfelt farewells, a poignant
moment that underscores the importance of connection,
dreams, and shared joy.)
26
(As MRS. SAVAGE turns toward the door, she gives one last
glance back at the group.)
MRS. SAVAGE: Until we meet again, my dear friends. Keep dreaming,
keep laughing!
(With a final wave, she exits. The remaining characters look at
one another, a mixture of sadness and hope washing over them.)
HANNIBAL: Well, what shall we do now?
(FAIRY claps her hands together.)

DR. EMMETT: (watching the scene unfold) You all really know how to
create an environment filled with love and laughter. Keep this spirit alive,
and you’ll thrive together.
(FAIRY, bouncing with energy, begins to lead the group in song,
creating an infectious atmosphere.)
FAIRY: (beginning a cheerful tune) 🎵 We’re off to see the gardens, the
marvelous gardens we adore! 🎵
(The atmosphere is full of joy and camaraderie; HANNIBAL joins
in on the violin, echoing the melody, while JEFF adds
harmonies.)
FLORENCE: (laughing) Listen to that! The music is our heartbeat!
(As everyone joins hands and dances around the room, MRS.
PADDY, who has been quietly observing, suddenly stands and
engages with the festivities.)
MRS. PADDY: (raising her voice slightly) I may be quiet, but I’m still
here—bring me into this dance!
(Laughter erupts, and they all gather together for an impromptu
circle dance.)
FAIRY: (giggling) You see? We are all mad here, and that’s perfectly
alright!

(As the music continues, the characters settle down for a
moment to share their feelings about MRS. SAVAGE and the
bonds they have formed.)
HANNIBAL: (addressing the group) You know, Mrs. Savage may have
left, but I feel she’s left behind a part of her in each of us.
JEFF: (nodding) Yes! It’s like a little treasure we carry forward.
FAIRY: (clapping) Yes, love is the greatest treasure! And I’ll make sure we
protect it with kindness!
(FLORENCE stands and raises a glass of juice she has prepared.)
FLORENCE: To Mrs. Savage! May her days be filled with as much joy as
she has brought us!
ALL: (raising their drinks) To Mrs. Savage!
(Their voices blend together in a heartfelt, joyful cheer.)
DR. EMMETT: (stepping forward) Remember, the bonds of friendship
and community are what truly enrich our lives.
(As laughter and music fill the air, the lights slowly begin to dim,
highlighting the joyous faces of each character.)
HANNIBAL: (playing a final tune, the lights fading out slowly) 🎵 … and
may our hearts always sing together!
(With the sounds of music and laughter gently echoing, the stage
goes dark.)
