B. Name any two -
1. solid substances Couch Chair

2. liquid substances Water Orange Juice

3. gases Carbon Dioxide Oxygen

4. processes involved in change of state Heating

Cooling

5. metals which expand on heating Iron ?????

C. Give short answers.

1. Why is air a matter ?

Ans. Air has matter because the inflated balloon has air inside and the deflated balloon doesn’t have air inside and
when you put it on a scale the inflated balloon is heavier/has mass, this indicates that air although invisible but is
weightless, actually has weight.

2. What decides the three states of matter ?

Ans. The three states of matter solid, liquid and gaseous as solid has definate shape and volume it indicates it has
mass and on the other side liquid has a definite volume but no shape it takes the shape of the container so it also
has mass and air has no shape and no volume but takes the shape of the container.

3. Why do solids expand on heating ?

Ans. On heating, solids and liquids expands in terms of size and volume. This is because on heating, their
molecules or particles gain energy and become more active. On heating they turn to liquid.

4. Give few properties of each -

Solids have a definite shape and volume.

Liquids have a definite volume but no definite shape.

Science Grade 5
Gases have no shape and no volume.
