Recycled Materials Contest Guidelines and Criteria

I. Objectives

• To encourage students to repurpose waste materials into functional or artistic


items creatively.

• To promote environmental awareness and sustainability by demonstrating the


value of recycling.

II. Guidelines

1. Eligibility:

o The contest is open to all students from Grade 3 to Grade 6 at


Maricaban Elementary School.

2. Theme:

o The project must align with the Science Month 2024 theme:
"Innovations and Advancements: Harnessing the Power of Science for
Sustainable Development."

3. Materials:

o Projects must be made primarily from recycled or upcycled materials


(e.g., plastic bottles, paper, metal scraps, old clothing, etc.).

o Minimal use of new or non-recycled materials is allowed (e.g., glue,


paint), but these should not constitute more than 20% of the total
project.

4. Project Requirements:

o The project can be functional (e.g., tools, household items) or artistic


(e.g., sculptures, decorative items).

o Projects should be original and must not infringe on existing designs or


intellectual property.

o The project must include a brief written explanation (100-200 words)


describing the materials used, the process of creation, and how it aligns
with the theme.
5. Size Limitations:

o The project should not exceed 3 feet in any dimension and should be
manageable by one person.

o Projects must stand alone and be displayed on a standard table.

6. Submission:

o The activity will be done inside the school and the participants will be
given an ample time of 2 hours.

o All entries must be submitted to the designated teacher or contest


coordinator by September 17.

o Participants must register their projects with the coordinator before


submission.

7. Judging:

o Projects will be judged by a panel of teachers and experts based on the


criteria outlined below.

o The decision of the judges will be final and irrevocable.

8. Prizes:

o Winners will receive certificates and prizes, which will be awarded


during the Science Month Culmination Ceremony.
