(First Cover Page and Page 1, Title) — Substitute ‘General Requirements
for Establishment and Operation of Assaying and Hallmarking Centres’ for
‘General Requirements for Competence of Assaying and Hallmarking Centres’.
(Page 1, clause 3.4, line 5) — Substitute ‘referenced’ for ‘reference’.
(Page 1, clause 3.4) — Insert the following new clause after 3.4:
‘3.5 Jeweller — A person engaged in the business to get precious metal article
manufactured for sale or to sell precious metal articles.
3.5.1 Certified Jeweller
A jeweller who has been granted a certificate by the Bureau of Indian standards
to get precious metal article manufactured for sale or to sell any precious metal
article after getting the same hallmarked.’
(Page 1, clause 4.1.1, sentence 2) — Delete.
(Page 1, clause 4.1.3) — Delete.
(Page 2, clause 4.1.12) — Substitute the following forthe existingclause:
‘4.1.12 The centre shall appoint a member of organization asQuality Manager
having defined authority andresponsibility for ensuring implementation
andmaintenance of Quality Management System in the centre’.
(Page 2, clause 4.1.13) —Insert the following new clause after 4.1.13:
‘4.1.13.1 The deputy of assay in-charge shall be graduate in science/diploma in
metallurgy with knowledge of assaying or 12th Standard pass with 2 years of
experience in assaying centres to carry out assaying activity’.

(Page 3, clause 4.4.1) — Substitute the following for the existing clause:
'4.4.1 The centre shall ensure that assaying and hallmarking is done for
jewellery/artefacts offered by certifiedjeweller only. Records of such certified
jewellers whose jewellery/artefacts are received for assaying and hallmarking
shall be maintained’.
(Page 3, clause 4.4.2) — Substitute the following for the existing clause:
‘4.4.2 The centre shall have internet facility to access the BIS website/server and
to receive on-line requests from certifiedjewellers for assaying and
hallmarking’.
(Page 3, clause 4.4.4) — Substitute the following for the existing clause:
‘4.4.4 The centre shall ensure that the jewellery/artefacts are assayed and
hallmarked following the requirements of this Indian Standard and delivered to
the clientmaximum within 48 h’.
(Page 3, clause 4.4.6) — Substitute the following for the existing:
‘a) Request from a certified jeweller;
b) Validity and scope of certificate held;
c) Review of markings on the jewellery/artefacts;
d) Quantity in numbers with declared fineness;
e) Design for artefacts (Medallions/Coins resembling currency of any
country not to behallmarked);
f) capability in respect of availability of CRMs;
g) capability in respect of meeting delivery time and schedule;
h) Delivery mode, hallmarking and delivery charges;
j) The centre shall take an undertaking from the certified jeweller
declaring identification mark/ unique number of certified jeweler
as declared to BIS; and
k) Jewellery/arte facts shall not be marked with KDM.'

‘The centre shall take sufficient care and precaution with respect to the
environment condition as required by the relevant specifications, methods and
procedures or where they influence the quality of results.Due attention shall be
paid, for example, to following.’
(Page 6, clause 5.3.3, line 1) — Insert the following new line before line 1:
‘The area of the furnace room in assay lab shallbe minimum 150 sq. ft. in view
of adherence to environmental condition and comfortable working'.
(Page 7, clause 5.4.6.2) — Substitute the following for the existing clause:
‘5.4.6.2 All gold and silver items shall be marked as per IS 1417 and IS 2112
respectively’.
(Page 7, clause 5.5.1, last line) — Insert ‘for guidance only’ at the end.
(Page 9, Annex A, Sl No. 1, col 4) — Substitute ‘up to 1150 oC’ for
‘0-1150 oC’.
(Page 9, Annex A, Sl No. 2, col 4) — Substitute ‘upto 900 oC’ for
‘0-900 oC’.
(Page 9, Annex A, Sl No.16, col 4) — Insert ‘120oC’.
(Page 9, Annex A, Sl No.18, col 2) — Substitute ‘Parting tray with/without
removable thimbles of Pt or Pt/Ir or Pt/Rh or unglazed silica’ for ‘Parting tray
with thimbles of Pt or Pt/Ir or’.
(Page 9, Annex A, Sl No.18, col 4) — Substitute the following for the
existing:
‘The bottom surface of the base of the parting tray shall not touch the base of the
