The ultimate guide to

part-time jobs in Russia
for international students
As an international student studying in Russia, finding a part-time job can provide a valuable
opportunity to earn some extra money, gain work experience, improve language skills, and build a
network of professional contacts. However, it's important to consider how part-time work fits into
the overall academic experience and to understand the rules and regulations around working as an
international student in Russia.

One of the advantages of working part-time as an international student in Russia is the flexibility it
offers. While studying full-time can be demanding, taking on a part-time job with fewer hours per
week can provide a convenient and efficient way to balance work and studies. International students
with part-time jobs in Russia can use earnings from their work to pay for their living expenses or can
save the money for future studies, travel or emergencies.

Here are some of the available part-time job opportunities in Russia for international students.

1. Language Teaching/Tutoring:
Many international students in Russia are fluent in their native language, and they can leverage this
skill to earn money by teaching their language to Russian students or tutoring other international
students. This is especially true for students who are proficient in English, as many Russians are keen
to learn or improve their English language skills.
2. Translation:
International students who are proficient in both English and Russian can work as translators for
businesses or individuals who require translation services. The demand for translation services is
high in Russia, especially in fields such as business, law, and finance. Students can use their language
skills to translate documents, emails, and other materials for clients.
3. Call Centers:
Many call centers in Russia require bilingual employees who can speak English and Russian fluently.
International students can work in these call centers and earn money while improving their language
PAGE # 17

skills. The job responsibilities include answering phone calls, responding to emails, and handling
customer inquiries.
4. Hospitality and Tourism:
The hospitality and tourism industry in Russia is booming, and there are many part-time job
opportunities available for international students in hotels, restaurants, and cafes. These jobs include
working as waiters/waitresses, receptionists, and housekeepers. Students can use these
opportunities to gain valuable work experience while earning extra money.
5. Freelance Work:
International students can also work as freelancers in fields such as web development, graphic
design, writing, and translation. There are several online platforms that international students can
use to find freelance work, such as Upwork, Freelancer, and Fiverr. Freelancing can provide flexibility
and the opportunity to work remotely, which can be ideal for students with busy schedules.
6. Retail and Supermarkets:
Retail stores and supermarkets in Russia often require part-time employees to work as cashiers,
sales assistants, and stockists. These jobs are ideal for international students who are looking for
flexible part-time work that does not require language skills.
7. Requirements for International Students:
In terms of regulations, Russian immigration law allows international students to work part-time as
long as they have a valid student visa and are enrolled in a full-time degree program at a Russian
university. The maximum number of hours is set at 20 hours per week during the academic year and
up to 40 hours per week during the summer and winter breaks. It is crucial to ensure that part-time
work does not interfere with their studies and that they comply with the regulations for international
students working in Russia.
8. Wages:
The wages for part-time jobs in Russia for international students vary depending on
the type of job, location, and the employer. The average hourly wage for part-time jobs
in Russia is around 100-400 rubles per hour. However, this can vary depending on the
industry and location.

Conclusion:
Part-time jobs in Russia offer international students a chance to gain valuable work experience while
earning extra money to support their studies. The job opportunities range from language
teaching/tutoring, translation, call centers, hospitality and tourism, freelance work, and retail and
supermarkets. International students should check with their universities or career centers for
information on job opportunities and requirements. It is also important to comply with the
regulations and ensure that the part-time work does not interfere with their studies
