FEAR.
When you were a child and you did something bad your first feeling was being afraid of your
parents. The fear of being punished made you not do bad things and taught you from wrong and
right. A child who does not receive punishment from their parents has bad behaviour problems and
has no sense of right from wrong.
Fear of God. Religion tells people that if they do bad things they will go to hell; many people
won't do anything wrong because they believe they are watched by God all of the
time.
Fear of going to Many people won't commit a crime because they are afraid of being sent to jail
jail. and only in a very desperate situation will people commit crime or if they think
they can out smart the police.
Fear of another If a person is much bigger than you then you are more likely to give that person
person. more respect because of the fear of being hurt by this person.
Fear of society. People don't like to be different from the majority of a society because of being
outcast. If most people are not wearing shoes then the rest would choose not to
wear shoes as well.
Fear of death. People's biggest fear is death and people will do anything to stay alive, if people
were given a choice to kill another person to save their own life they most likely
kill the other person.
Free will is to do whatever you want to do when you feel like doing it and saying whatever you want
to say. But if we did not fear anything from death, government and even other people how will this
effect society? In your group give your opinion if fear is what makes us good people or only good
people fear and bad people don't fear at all despite how severe the punishment is?
DISCIPLINE OR ABUSE
This is a topic for open discussion about real situations in life.
New words to learn; "Spanking," "punching," "abuse," and "child abuse." Spanking is when a child
is very naughty and you want to punish him by slapping his bottom. Child abuse is when a parent
does horrible things to a child such as punching which is closing your fist and striking the child's
face or body.
A woman was walking down the street with her child and the child started to be naughty so she
gave him a spank on the bottom. While this was happening another woman witnessed this and
called the police to arrest the mother for child abuse.
The topic is: Is spanking a child for being naughty child abuse? If it is child abuse then how should
the mother punish the child?
Some parents who don't believe in spanking or hitting say they reason with the child but can you
reason with a two year old child?
The people who I know whose parents never spanked them were spoilt little brats who were out of
control and my father would take off his belt whenever I was bad. The other children who were
never spanked had serious drug problems but I never did. Is this because I was spanked and they
weren't or would there be another reason for their drug problem?
Immunization is when you give children medicine to stop them from getting terrible diseases but it
is with a needle in the arm.
Some parents are now saying that their children should not be given any immunization because
the needle hurts them. When they were asked about what would happen if they were to catch the
disease, they responded by saying "those diseases don't exist anymore."
Are these parent right and what is your opinion?
GENDER ROLES
Gender roles means that men and women have different duties at work and around the house
such as men take care of the back yard while women wash the clothes.
Equal rights means that women have the same rights as men such as they should be able to do
the same job and get paid the same amount.
Do you believe on a date a boy should pay for dinner, movie and taxi?
One reason is that for a boy to show how much he likes a girl is how much he is willing to spend on
a date.
If you believe that boys should pay then what other reasons why you think this?
OR
Do you believe both girl and boy should pay half for everything?
One reason is that girls and boys are equal so they should half the cost of everything.
If you believe that both boy and girl should pay equally then what other reasons why you think this?
Do you believe when a married couple both have jobs the wife should still do most of the house
work?
One reason is that a wife's duty is maintaining a house even though she is working a job as well.
If you believe that the wife should do all the house work then what other reasons why you think
this?
OR
Do you believe if both husband and wife have jobs then both should equally do the house work?
One reason is that both husband and wife are busy working jobs they should help each other
around the house.
If you believe that both should help each other around the house then what other reasons why you
think this?
Do you believe when a married couple have a new born baby and it's crying in the middle of the
night both parents should wake up and see what's wrong?
One reason is that because they are both working they need as much sleep as possible.
If you believe that the both parents should get up then what other reasons why you think this?
OR
Do you believe when the baby cries in the middle of the night only the mother should wake up and
see what is wrong?
One reason is that it is the mother's responsibility to look after the children.
If you believe that only the mother should wake up then what other reasons why you think this?
Do you believe if a man and a woman are both working in a factory but the men have to lift heavier
objects they should be paid equally?
One reason is that even though the men are lifting heavier objects the women still do hard work.
If you believe that they should be paid equally what other reasons why you think this?
OR
Do you believe because the men are required to lift heavier objects they should be paid more?
One reason is that the heavier object can cause damage to the body so they should be paid more
for that.
If you believe that the men should be paid more what other reasons why you think this?
Some men don't want to be married to a women if she earns more than he does and doesn't want
to marry someone older.
Some women don't want to marry a man if he is shorter than she is and younger.
Even though women are treated equally and do the same work as men but why do some things
have not changed such as age and money?
