Role Profile

Role Function
Chief Education Officer To lead the delivery of high quality and continually
improving education across the network of up to 100
PEAS Secondary Schools.
Reports to Compensation
Managing Director, PEAS - Uganda

Purpose and Responsibilities of the Role


Strategy
 Accountable for achieving education quality targets agreed within the PEAS five year strategic plan.
 Developing and leading the PEAS-Uganda Education Strategy.
 Driving the continual improvement of quality Teaching & Learning across the network of PEAS schools.
 Driving the continual improvement of student attainment, achievement and aspirations (particularly
through low cost, cost neutral or income generating interventions).
 Driving the continual improvement of pastoral care across the network of PEAS schools, including
Improving Child Protection and Health and Safety standards.

Management
 Line manage the Director of Educational Excellence.
 Oversee the effective management of a growing education team including Education Consultants and
international volunteers.
 Develop Departmental impact through careful work planning, target setting and a results focussed
approach.

School Improvement Planning


 Lead the creation of a network wide annual School Improvement Plan, based upon the annual inspection
findings and recommendations.
 Support key Education Department staff in the implementation of School Improvement Plans at
individual schools based on annual inspection findings and recommendations

Project monitoring, evaluation and reporting


 Develop a comprehensive and effective system of measuring school outcomes.
 Evaluate the impact and progress of PEAS projects based on data collected and presented by the
Director of Educational Excellence to inform strategic planning.
 Report progress and outcomes to MD PEAS-Uganda, Board of Directors, CEO PEAS-UK, funders and other
stakeholders.
 Oversee beneficiary feedback, policy/programme ‘ownership’ and communications systems.

Communication and Networking (PEAS-Uganda, government and NGO community level)


 Effective communication and collaboration with other PEAS-Uganda departments
 Communication and stake holder management at national level
 Provide the Educational expertise to support PEAS advocacy work at a national level

Finance
 Ensure the financial sustainability of the PEAS Education Department strategy and activities
 Budget holder for the PEAS-Education Department
 Assess the efficacy of expenditure on educational resources by senior staff in relation to defined learning
targets

Relevant Experience
 Evidence of delivering quality secondary education at a whole-school level or through an education

 Management*
 Proven record of building positive relationships with a wide variety of different people*
 Experience of developing and implementing professional development/training methods specific to
education.
 Understanding of what enables quality education provision in resource poor environments.
 Evaluation and reporting
 Strong networks at a national level in the Ugandan education sector with both government and NGOs.
