2.1 Overview
This chapter of the report covers a full overview of the student's training work as well as a
description of the type of work done at the department to which the student was assigned.
2.2 DESCRIPTION OF THE NATURE OF WORK DONE AT VARIOUS SECTIONS
TV Africa studio, I was assigned to the News room, Video editing department. Below are some
of the activities engaged in by the intern.
2.2.1 EDITING UNIT
It is at this section at this session the intern was engaged in several production activities like the
editing of news videos to be played live on air, also students design flyers for online social media
posting.
2.2.2 DESIGNING SECTION
I was engaged in several activities at the designing section. It was at this stage that all designs for
manufacturing purposes were created. I design several artworks for fliers, posters, letterheads
among others and these designs were sent for production.
After the works are completed, they are taken through careful observations and assessments to
ensure all mistakes are eliminated therefore ensuring customer satisfaction at all times.
2.2 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED BY THE INTERN
ORINTATION FOR STUDENTS
This was done from the date I reported on the 11th September 2023. The induction/ orientation
was done by the human resource manageress who later, introduced me to my supervisor with
the help of other staff members. He gave us a very pleasing and interesting welcome and
encouraged us to develop a strong relationship between the supervisors and students, and
students to students as well, and he told us that we shouldn’t develop the idea of I know
everything and yet you do not know anything and we should have a clear focus on the different
critical reflection and actions regarding the conduct of the students which will form the basis of
a clear recommendation with no objection.
The first week, I was introduced to the staff and various sections at TV Africa studio and straight
away I was asked to create a new logo for TV Africa on my very first day.
TV Africa logo image:
The following days of week 1 I met with my senior interns who trained me on how to use a new
software for video editing called the Adobe Premier Pro. Which I mastered quickly and I was
given the chance to edit real voice over news videos for live broadcasting.
I actively took part in all activities in the various sections where I was recognized more as a
worker with a respect to my effort in helping TV Africa achieve its vision. I participated in
every step of any activity performed. I was assigned and in so doing, I relieved the workers of
some activities.
Editing News live:
3.2.1 New knowledge / skills acquired
Throughout the days of the attachment period, I was taught several ways to complete tasks
quickly and easily when using design or editing software.
The intern also had the knowledge about how the laser machine works which is used in cutting
special characters for signage works.
The intern also had a feel on how the printing machine works and how to print colors (magenta,
cyan, yellow and black) separately to achieve colored and black and white and was involved in
spraying works, stencil cutting and mounting of banners and flexy at site.
Through the study, the intern improved his ability to get along with and work well with people of
all classes, ages, and positions in the same company.
Finally, during the internship, the author had skills and experience on how to operate the Pad
printer for printing pens and key holders and many others, the heat press machine for printing on
t-shirts, caps, handkerchiefs and many more and finally a new way of mounting a mesh on a
screen skillfully and accurately.
3.2.2 Challenges encountered
It took some time for me to get to know the staff members and cooperate with the corporate laws
and regulations because at first, it was difficult for me to cooperate with them because I didn't
know them well.
Working outside in the heat was also a significant difficulty because it was exhausting and bad
for my health.
I had to take some time to study the software because I wasn't very knowledgeable about
designing programs like Adobe photoshop, which was frequently used at Fresh coat. It was a
little challenging, but I managed in the end.
3.3 Contribution of Student to Organization
With my knowledge from my studies in the Bachelor of Technology in Graphic Design, I made a
significant contribution to the business in many different ways. Throughout the attachment time,
I helped with every activity that took place. I worked on editing of videos and pictures directly
from the field of reporters and many other things.
My presence and my ability to adapt any working conditions there also contributed to the
production limit because I made it easier and faster for them to work and meet deadlines.
3.3 GENERAL COMMENTS / OBSERVATION
After learning the theory portion of my course in the classroom, I had the opportunity to put it
into practice during my attachment period, which made learning in the workplace simple. Based
on the knowledge I've gained from working with Fresh coat, I can claim with great confidence
that, given the chance, I can work with any graphic design industry in the nation.
The intern also observed that Fresh coat is a very serious business that makes efficient use of
every second, forcing the intern to work hard to fulfill its high bar for excellence.
The Secretary at the reception was also friendly, hardworking and also ever ready to serve both
visitors and workers.
I observed that the field of information technology is a practical field and therefore must be
practiced at any free time. Having a laptop is very important to get these skills at your
fingertips. Breaks must also be taken regularly since sitting at one place for a long period of
time can leave you with long term health challenges.
IMPRESSIONS
The team work of the staff was what caught my attention. Work load shared equally according to
every worker’s strong hold.
CHAPTER FOUR
4.1 CONCLUSION
Students who participate in internships are exposed to issues outside of the classroom and given
the knowledge and experience necessary for their field of study. Students should view it as a
fantastic opportunity and treat it seriously. All parties involved in the Industrial Attachment's
implementation, including school administrations, should do their part to uphold it in high
regard.
Businesses, institutions, industries, and all other types of enterprises ought to support the concept
and provide spots for students on the attachment. The nation as a whole will greatly profit from
the numerous inherent advantages if these are effectively integrated.
4.2 RECOMMENDATIONS
I recommend the university must continue to send students out for such programs to bridge the
gap between academic work and practical work. This is because, working environments looks
different from the lecture rooms and the experiences are completely different. It gives them a
clear and vivid picture of what is been taught at the lecture halls.
Despite difficulties in securing places for students, school authorities would do well to be aware
of those who are unable to do so and take the initiative to locate them a place.
In order to provide the student enough time to deliver a strong report on all the intricate work
accomplished, it is proposed that the deadline for submitting internship program reports for B-
Tech students be somewhat extended.
