Break class into teams. Let teams read. As soon as they
make a mistake, they must sit down, the other teams
read. Let them try to stand up as long as possible n they
must really focus on getting it right.
6. Reading race:
Work in pairs or teams. Let them stay in the back. Put
some strips of text from the story. Then give them a list of
questions. They must alternate, going back and forth and
answer the questions. First team finish win.
7. Whisper race:
Line up. Whispering the text to the friends in front. The
last one must write on the board. Let them choose who
sit where.
8. Role play
9. Black out: erase some words in the text and let them find
out which one is missing.
10. Cut into pieces: choose 2 stories. Cut them into
pieces. Give them to the students, let them read and
assemble to form a complete story.
11. Scrambled sentences: Same as number 10 but just 1
story and can let them do it individually.
12. Add misspelled words: intentionally make some
mistakes in the text and let them circle it.
13. Stop before the end: make them stop before reading
the end of the story and let them predict what will
happen in the end.

C. Post reading:
14. Comprehension questions: let the students write
down 10 questions about the story.
15. Summarize: Ask the students to summarize the story
in their own words or summarize the main idea of each
paragraph.
16. Keyword importance: ask them about the keyword
words we taught at the beginning. Ask them why r they
important.
17. Taboo: students have to explain the key words
learned to their groups without using it.
18. Debate: pick an issue from the story that students
can debate over. (Detail in another video)
19. Alternate ending: let students write some alternate
ending for the story.
20. Make new sentences (from vocab): Students make
some sentences with the vocab they learned from the
story.
21. Adjectives: find 10 adj and ask students to write
antonyms or synonyms of the words.
22. Special moment: students can pick a moment to
draw a picture and explain to you why it is special to
them.
23. The “most” lists: students make a list of things that
were funny or sad or surprising in the text.
24. Title paragraphs: helps student think more about
what each paragraph means and why writers write them
in the story.
25. Pronouns: Underline all the pronouns in the story. (I,
you, we, they) and ask students who are they, who or
what they refer to.
26. Write a letter: write a letter to a character, share
their feelings, give their advice.
27. Story map: draw a story map to help students
understand the element of the story.
28. Movie poster: make them make a movie poster for
the story. Add the most important part of it, special
element.
29. Interview: in pairs, interview their friends about the
books and the characters.
30. Quotes: Give students a quote from the text and ask
them to guess who said that in the story.
31. Class retells the story: let them sit in circle, one by
one telling parts of the story. Teacher can stop.
