Atomic Bomb
A device in which fission reaction proceeds uncontrolled and an immense amount of energy is
liberated. This energy is responsible for the havoc that it can cause to life and property.
The atomic bomb is also known as A-bomb, atom bomb, nuclear bomb, or nuclear
warhead.
Atomic bomb contains two places of pure U235 or Pu239 each below the critical size. The
critical size is that which is large enough to start the chain reaction if it is smaller than the critical size.
The neutrons will escape form the simple without causing fission, it is called sub critical. Thus, a
small piece is quite safe but larger piece called super critical is essential which produces more and
more fission to exploder. The two pieces below the critical size are brought together to form a large
piece super critical larger than the critical size. Fission of U235 or Pu239 is then produced in an
uncontrolled manner to produce a huge amount of energy which produces destruction of life.
Temperature developed in an atomic bomb is believed to be 10 million °C (temperature of the sun).
