General Aims:
Engineering is concerned with people, organization and technology. This class
aims to develop students' wider understanding of engineering as a wealth-creating
activity, identifying the needs of society and the role of the engineer, to introduce
to the teamwork approach to engineering, and to provide a general description of
the skills needed to become a practicing engineering. Lectures are directed toward
the solve problems and theoretical experiments that can be designed by students
as the need develops.
Specific Learning Outcomes:
a) self-directed study
b) research of material using library resources
c) production of reports to professional standards
d) develop transferable skills - especially communication and presentational skills
e) understanding of the full breadth of intellectual interest which is involved in
being a successful engineer.
