A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Practical Research 1

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the 60-minute discussion, the students are expected to:

A. Cite related literature using standard style


B. Differentiate APA and MLA; and
C. Demonstrate appreciation and understanding of the lesson.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: In-text Citation using APA and MLA


Reference: Practical Research 1 Book (pp. 67-71)
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, Visual Aids, blackboard, chalk

III. PROCEDURE

A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom Management
4. Checking of Attendance

B. Review
Review the lesson about review of related literature.
A review of related literature is the process of collecting, selecting, and reading books, journals, reports,
abstracts, and other reference materials.
C. Motivation / Developmental Activity
The teacher will post the word PLAGIARISM on the board then give then give the students 1 minute to
brainstorm their ideas about the word plagiarism.
When time is up, ask for students to volunteer their ideas. Have each student up to the board to write
his/her idea.
Ask the students the following questions:
1. Based on the answers on the board, how could we best define plagiarism?
2. How do you know if you have plagiarized?
3. What are the consequences of plagiarizing? Why are there consequences? What would happen if there
were no consequences?
Lead the discussion to the idea of citing sources as a means of avoiding plagiarism and ensuring that
credit for information is given where it is due.

D. Establishing Purpose of the Lesson


(Ask the students to read today’s main objective.)
Today’s objective: At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to
a. Cite related literature using standard style
b. Differentiate APA and MLA

E. Presentation of the Lesson


1. Explain to the students that today they will learn how to use in-text citations to credit sources.
 Using In-text Citation
Include an in-text citation when you refer to, summarize, paraphrase, or quote from another source. For
every in-text citation in your paper, there must be a corresponding entry in your reference list.

2. Introduce two standard style that are being used in citing sources.
The two commonly used standard styles are:
a. APA (American Psychological Association)
b. MLA (Modern Language Association)
3. Discuss the differences between APA and MLA then show examples.

F. Generalization
Answer this question:
a. What is the importance of citing sources?
b. If you are going to use a citation style, which do you prefer to use? APA or MLA?

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Differentiate APA to MLA using the Venn diagram..

V. Assignment

Be ready to present a written review of related literature next meeting.
