SENIOR THREE FINAL EXAM Paper 1
Time allowed: 1h.15’ (+ List: 1h. 30’)
SECTION A: Reading Comprehension
Read the text and choose the correct option, true (T) or false (F).

Bear
Bear Grylls is a British adventurer, writer and television presenter. He was born on June 7th,
1974. His real name is Edward but his sister, Lara, decided to call him Bear. Bear and Lara grew up on
the Isle of Wight, an island off the south coast of England. Bear’s love of adventure started when he was
about eight years old and it’s still his passion today. Bear spent a lot of time with his father. They went
climbing on the cliffs on the Isle of Wight and did lots of other outdoor activities together.
After leaving school, Bear spent some time in Africa. His life was always full of adventure, but
while he was working there, he had a parachute accident. His parachute didn’t open properly and he
broke his back in three places when he fell to the ground. Bear spent nine months in hospital, but he is a
very determined person - if he decides to do something, he does it! After his accident, he still had one
big dream: to climb Mount Everest. He reached the summit of Everest on 26th May, 1998.
In 2006, he made a very successful series of TV programmes about surviving in the outdoors
called Man Vs. Wild. More than 1.2 billion people watched the series in more than 200 countries! Bear
lives on a small Welsh island with his wife, Shara, and three sons. Between adventures, he works for the
Scout Association. There are 28 million scouts all over the world and Bear enjoys this new challenge. He
is interested in encouraging young people to make the most of life and its opportunities, especially in the
great outdoors. If you want adventure in your life, go and find it!
