1. Thesis Statement
The main thesis of the text is that a cashless society, where transactions occur
electronically rather than with physical money, is becoming more prevalent and has both
advantages and disadvantages.
2. Arguments
- Argument 1: A cashless society is convenient and can reduce crime. People don’t need to
carry cash, making them less of a target for theft, and illegal transactions are easier to
track.
- Argument 2:Cashless systems can lower costs related to handling cash, such as printing
money, storage, and security expenses for businesses and banks.
3. Evidence
- Evidence for Argument 1: The text explains that cashless systems reduce crime since
there’s less cash to steal and criminal activities involving cash (like drug trafficking) would
become harder to hide.
- Evidence for Argument 2: It mentions the costs of printing cash, securing physical money,
and dealing with exchanges while traveling. These expenses could be reduced in a cashless
society.
4. Conclusion
The text concludes that although digital transactions are becoming more common, there
are potential downsides to a completely cashless world, and only time will reveal if cash
remains necessary.
Reflection
Reflect on whether you agree with the author’s view that a cashless society has both
benefits and challenges. Consider if you feel the benefits outweigh the drawbacks or vice
versa.
